My favourite player; why the feck we didn't offer him a contract over a year ago is a ridiculous mystery! Good luck

Was a great player when asked to do a job...but this video is embarrassing this is the type of thing that we used to laugh at other clubs for.

I've seen him make a lot of unforced errors and stray passes, but I haven't seen him get bullied. You can call Mourinho delusional all you like, but it doesn't paint you in a great light.
Really must watch the Everton game again where he failed to hold the midfield against players who covered more ground than him and won more second balls.

We are prioritising the likes of Young, Smalling, Jones, Martial. But Herrera is allow to run down to the point that PSG can offer a wage that's high....because there's no transfer fee.

Herrera getting a contract 18 months ago and he likely goes from ~70k per week to 120k per week.

On top of that, you have the likes of Martial getting a payday for no reason. Then he sulks on the pitch. Herrera was out there leading the troops, praising sanchez in the press to help with confidence. Doing all the captain things.

So why do we "draw the line" at Herrera, but the rest of the trash get a free pass?
Because Woodward is deciding who stays, who leaves and who we sign. He went against Mourinho’s wishes to sell Martial. He knew he had an attitude problem. Now look at him, gets his mega contract and hasn’t put a shift in since.

If he were in PSGs colors not long ago, they'd have faced Barcelona instead of us. That simple.

Good player. One of the bright spots in the last few years. Can only hope we fill his place with someone that gives as much to the cause as he does.

That’s overstating his ability. Verratti is in a different class, and if we’re honest, a whole bunch of players are a level above.

Loved him here though!
I dunno, it's not ability PSG are short of, it's attitude... He might be just what they need.

Fred was signed with an eye to be his replacement and the emergence of McTominay as a decent, reliable player as well means we actually don't have to do that. There's free/cheap alternatives, like Rabiot.
But we do. McTominay doesn’t offer what Herrera does, nor does Fred, who has been largely disappointing since his arrival. Both of those players were available when Herrera was injured, and we look worryingly soft in midfield in his absence.

Rabiot is free and available for a reason. Who are the other free/cheap options?

I agree. think, we have lost one of the better characters, whom was not always appreciated but over the last few years any good performance he seemed to be the foumdation.

If you listed all the players that had to leave he would be in the bottom 5.

If you listed the players really earning their wages with their performance, hard work and commitment he would be top 3.

It follows that we should let his contract run down and then act aggrieved when the offers he is getting are way higher than his current wage :houllier:

Why is Sanchez on so much? Because whatever fee a player like his old self costs was turned into wages. Same here, instead of paying 30M or so to sign Herrera (or a replacement, in a world where Fred is 50M) you can pay him 200K for three years, making the other 2 years equate to 80K/week over the entire contract.

Absolutely zero issues with his decisions, it's on us, we are run by a bunch of bellends.

Good luck Ander! :keano:

He is in his prime, he rejected a new contract, yet he is allowed on the club website to promote himself and pretend to be sad. The decision making at the club is beyond bizarre.

Good job club, really good job..

Good luck Ander, we don't deserve you.

Jones and Young staying, he goes, what an utter disaster.

Love the way some on here think we are going to become Manchester City in one transfer window. You need the Ander Herrera's at your club. Not every team is made up completely of world class players. In fact we might be lucky to have even one after the summer.
We don't have any now

Lets not pretend that he is leaving because we didnt want to offer him 30k per week, never cared about whole wage thing but if true that he demanded 200k, sorry maybe i am out of touch a bit, for 200k players should meet some requirements done in the past/present/future.

Wondering how much we would pay our legends from the past, like their wage at the time plus inflation.

Sad to see him go but why the feck are United promoting him?

He's not leaving after 20 years here but he's going on a free after 5 years. WTF!!

There’s a real painful irony when the one guy who seems to consistently give a shite is the first guy who is out the door.
Gutted is too strong a word but i agree completely. He should have been made captain years back - he's the closest thing we had to an on field general. The way he took responsibility onfield in the Europa final ensuring he stayed back and Miki went forward is a matter of record.

Being sidelined by a succession of managers was tragic. It's no surprise his form dropped after Matic arrived and walked into the team despite mediocre performances. Unlike many of our team he left everything out on the field each and every game.

At his age it's the right decision for all parties for him to go. His contract should never have been allowed to run down this far but Jose never put his arm around him and by the time Ole arrived the decision was already pretty much done.

Wages wise we shouldn't be held for ransom on 'high wage' demands for a player of his age, but he's every right to seek parity with the more well paid non performers in the team. It must be gutting for him to look across the dressing room at a certain Tony Martial.

The problems created by a disastrous long term transfer/contract policy.

If some of our players, especially the English ones had his levels of professionalism and application, we wouldn't be in the predicament we're in now. Wish him all the best in Paris, he's always welcome back for a visit.

Good luck to him, when you look at some of the crap we are keeping and what we are paying some of them, this is a big loss at a difficult time for the club, but it's self inflicted.

He's the last midfielder in our current ranks that we would want to see depart. The only one who has always given his all consistently and understood what putting on the red shirt meant, and one of the few worth keeping. Whenever he plays well Pogba normally does too, and it is no coincidence that we fell apart the past 2 months after his absence and head turning. It would be sad if he is indeed leaving to PSG for money. Not sure how we have allowed one of our most crucial player's (in this current spineless team) contract to run down like that. All the best to him

Think this is harsh and I see him more as a 7/10 player who at least puts in the effort and seems to care about the result, but the point still stands.

He's average and I'm glad he's gone. For the record I didn't want Young/Jones Smalling staying either so don't bother me with "but these guys all got new deals".

Daniel Taylor is an A grade cnut. Best to generally ignore anything he says.

Does Martial meet requirements?

200k is too much. No one is arguing against that. What people are arguing against is that they sort out contracts for trash players and let him go on a free.

It's rumoured to be 200k.....because PSG don't have to pay 30-35 million transfer fee.

We royally fecked this contract up. And as others have highlighted, he wasn't a priority to move on. The players we gave new contracts to ARE priorities to move on.

Is there actually any truth in that though? Why do we jump to the assumption that because he didn’t sign a new contract a year ago he wasn’t offered one?

I believe the club actually tried to renew his deal at the end of Mourinho’s first season after we won the Europa but Herrera did not commit.

We will miss what he brings to our squad but the bottom line is, despite how he chooses to portray himself publically, he wants away.

If he wanted to play for Manchester United he would still be a Manchester United player.

Utd fan and football journalist of some depth. Usually balanced with his opinions too so surprises me he's slating Herrera. Think it's because the ethics of PSG reflect poorly on Andrea's choice.

That tiny point in time where we thought we had the centre midfield spot on after years of trying!

Had a really mixed spell here. Often not quite trusted by various managers but other times putting great shifts in.

For me, not quite offering enough for what we need. But the massive obvious worry is will we replace with better with so many other gaps.
