We are currently the worst coached team in the league and have been for years. The job of Ole is to make this team, with his own additions that suit his tactics, the best coached team in the league.

There's no way those Liverpool players are capable of what they did last night under our current system. Every team in the league has a clearer system than we do. Liverpools is outstanding, it makes the sum much greater than the individual parts. Ours makes individuals worse than they are.

How did he manage Molde? Was his management (philosophy / strategy) different between the two management periods?
I heard he played lots of different formations, but it was more about ensuring his team could switch for any match, rather than him not having a coherent plan?
How was he with recruitment? Did he find good buys? How was he at promoting youth? Did he restructure the club much - training, academy, etc?

How modern do you think his thinking was? Did he change tactics for each team, or did he look to inflict his own philosophy and style on them instead.

Unlike some, I don't discount his work for Molde. Everything is relative. He took on Rosenborg and won. That can't have been easy and it suggests he has more talent and more balls than a lot think.

It was different, yes. In his first period he signed some class players for the league's standards, with the like of Eikrem, Angan, Daehli, etc... The team were playing mostly 4-3-3, if I remember correctly, one-touch play in the last third so that you hardly believed your own eyes. I don't think people realise how far behind Molde were before OGS took over. Now, in his last period he wasn't able to sign the greatest of players and as a result modified his philosophy. Playing mostly 4-4-2 or even 4-5-1, our play didn't really scare anyone. What I remember is both myself and many others as being grumpy over his decisisions... especially subs throughout the match, just like we see now at Utd. You kind of felt the players didn't really care, and that's the worst feeling you can have as a football fan. iwould say his approach was modern. Attacking, aggressive football for the most part, however, this changed a bit in his last spell, probably mostly because of the players not really being able to play like that...

Yes, he was opportunistic and changed his plans from match to match, however, to my liking he became waaaay too defensive in his last spell, unnessecarily so. He made some really bad signings, players that would disappear without even playing a single game... however, these were mostly "low risk" signings we didn't really have to invest much into. Some signings were good of course.

When it comes to the youth, we really developed good players at his disposal... Eirik Hestad, Sander Svendsen, Tobias Svendsen, Erling Haaland, etc. Some of these are even locals, and no doubt OGS was an important factor in this. His experience from the Utd academy surely showed fruitful here.

Exactly, it's all relative. Come on, we beat Ajax twice in the group stage in the Europa League, absolutely crushed Fenerbahce and Celtic and won our group because of Ole's work. This is MOLDE we are talking about. We also nearly excelled into the Champions League against Basel.

Hope Ole gets a decent chance, but that run of form we had when he joined has done more harm than good in the sense that the board obviously decided that all was rosy and we can just put our feet up.

Before then it looked we might have actually tried to do things properly (but then again, who the feck knows what our plans our).

The board had a job to do and the appointment stinks of being an easy out.

So he excels in being the underdog.
Great!

I'm sorry, were you expecting a title challenge (requiring 90 points) next season?

The season haven't even started and he already saying this shit.

He was full of confidence when he was appointed interim/permanent manager. Only a few weeks later and now this?

Makes you wonder what he has been told about transfers. Maybe not spending the money he expected. United are great at talking themselves up.

Yes, and why do you think that is? Obviously, something happened. I am not even talking about the results, I refer to the obvious 'altered state of consciousness' for most of the players.

Maybe fans need to get real and acknowledge the fact that we are miles behind those two teams? Not only on the pitch but behind the scenes as well.

Just like the previous 2 managers he started up talking very positively and in optimistic way before reverting to downing expectations some months later after seeing what the squad is doing more closely. LVG and Mourinho had exactly the same trajectory.

Yeah exactly, they don’t realise how bad we are until they start working with the players. I’ve no problem with Ole saying this. Being a Big Club doesn’t give you the right to win.

Our fecking fan base at times, honestly we could be fighting relegation in the Championship and some of our fans would be put out if the manager didn’t claim we could still win the Champions League next year.

Even Klopp didn't start talking about title challenges till his 3rd season, so I don't see anything wrong in what Ole said.

It is a bit of a balancing act though, yes we are miles behind and the fans know it, but we don't particularly want to be told that we are a hopeless case. If he does not get rid of a lot of players he will have problems, because bringing youngster in, they are inconsistent and having the likes of Young etc about might prove too much of a temptation to bring them all back in if the going gets tough. Then we are going nowhere and fast. I really don't know where we should go to put everything right.

Man Utd should never ever accept a manager to say this kind of shit before a season even started. How can he motivate the team? Create winning mentality? Instill never say die attitude?

How far have we fallen. If it's a "miracle" to challenge, mind you not wining the league, then we should go out and buy players?

I think people are just hoping he is the right man to spot who should be shown the door and will do it, due to his love for the club. However the getting this side back to the top, I really am not sure.

He could just say something positive along the line of we will get some good signings in next season to try challenge for the title as we are one of the biggest club in the world.

Instead of "miracle" to even challenge let alone winning the league. Man Utd manager must always have the winning mentality and steel in them to lead the club in the right direction.

I thought people are saying he understands Man Utd expectations and culture.

It doesn't sound very optimistic. Talking about us having a lot of work to do is a good thing. Although also say that if we can work hard, get the tactics right, sign the right players and improve what we got we should have a chance to challenge. It also doesn't give confidence to the players we got if he do not got faith in them. Everyone knows of course that we need improvement, but we also need the ones we get to improve and perform well.

I want optimism before a season start and to go for it. Then we might not win it, but at least we should try.

The only way we could challenge for the title next season is if we spent about 500-600m in one summer, and even there it would take time for the team to gel and whatnot.
In other words, there’s absolutely no chance we’ll be anywhere near ready to challenge for the title next season.
We’re closer to Milan at the moment then we are to your Barcas and Madrid.

Every fans understand this but we don't need to hear from a Man Utd Manager who already given up when the season haven't even started and zero players have been signed.

That's the point, even Klopp didn't say he would try to get Liverpool challenging next season itself when he joined.

I'm not a major supporter of Ole, though I hope he does well. But really, in our current state, you won't find any manager be it Ole or a decorated manager, commit to title challenges. At the end of the day, these individuals also think about their own career and rep, and promising something difficult to deliver probably would result in their own downfall.

This is the same type of pessimism. Leicester did win the title with a worse team than we got. They mainly added a Kante to the side that fighted relegation. Tactics is also very important and that is something the manager can use to improve us even without new players.

2-3 top players can go a long way to improve us. A striker that scored goals regulary, one winger that creates chances and scores goals, one midfielder that works well with Pogba to allow us to dominate games. That enough could see us do much better. Add a decent right back and some potential improvements in other areas and we could improve even further.
If De Gea can find his form again we could also concede far less goals with the same defense and a better midfield.

Getting 95 point will be hard, but I do think Liverpool is going to get less points. City is a machine, but with some key players like Aguero, Silva getting older they could potentially decline too.I personally do not see us getting the attacking players we need now playing in the europa league. Also not sure we are going to invest enough, but we got the potential to do much better.

Arsenal, Chelsea (without Hazard), Spurs (minus say Eriksen) are teams we should be able to beat with a good summer. The gap is less than people think due to City and Liverpool getting so many points this season.

Leicester was a freak season of a mid-table team running on crazy confidence boost, with other big teams being below-par season or going through a rebuild.
They would’ve struggled to make top 4 in current PL.

I really don't like to see such comments from OGS. Besides making excuses for himself (and the club) I'm not sure what good it does. Everyone knows where we stand but there's value in positivity and it's not something I would like hearing as either a player or potential player.

Maybe I'm spoilt by this man

“that’s not my greatest achievement. my greatest achievement was knocking Liverpool off their fecking perch, and you can print that!”?

The last 6 years our managers have been sprouting shits and given up when the fight haven't even started.

Yes, but I like Ole to be a bit more optimistic. He talked about us having a chance to turn it around against PSG in a much more positive way.

I feel like our poor form has made everyone more negative. Hopefully we can get in some good player to bring some optimism back.

Exactly. "We're coming for those cocky feckers at the top."

Get the players staying pumped going into the offseason and send a message to the recruits who may be on the fence about us that we're coming.

Ole will be given the players he wants, get rid of players who do not want to be here or who are just not good enough.
He will have a good pre-season and instill his fitness regime from the get go.
I'm sure we will do well.
if it all goes south, he will leave end of the season.

For now he has my full support.

Before the injuries we did very well against the top sides.

If Ole is targeting players like Daniel James, his intention is to create a playing style that involves a lot of pace and pressing. Atleast that's a small mercy rather than expecting another season of defensive football.

I would rather have another bad season with Solskjaer, be patient, change the direction of the club and build a strong foundation, rather than get a new manager who will try another "quick fix" for self achievement for himself and keep going in a circle around ourselves. Sir Alex failed his first 3 seasons with United but then look what has happened after that. Of course there needs to be hints and visuals showing improvement each season.

United was constantly finishing 3rd or 4th before Ferguson. After he got the job for the first 4 seasons he was finishing 11th and 13th except for one season he finished 2nd and also won the FA cup. Times has changed since then thats right. It might not happen again thats also true. But the risk reward for this to happen again is worth taking in my opinion. As I see Solskjaer trying to implement what Sir Alex came once to this club and started.

Ole is correct in saying we should strive to get into the Top 4. That is a realistic target for a squad that needs to be rebuilt from the bottom up.

Turn 2-3 of the draws we’ve had recently into wins and we’d be comfortably in the top four.

The managerial excuses are coming out even earlier than i expected.

This very much this. How can I motive a person a normal person before starting any stage that you can't challenge!! Feck off.

Solskjaer on wanting his players ready to go on July 1st
They have all got their programmes to do over the summer. We expect them to be ready to go on the 1st July when we start. We’re not going to use the first ten days to build them up, they should be ready to go.

We have a longer summer break than any of the other challengers and have to use that as an advantage. It’s not like a threat but whoever’s not ready on July 1 will probably stay here and not travel us. We only want and need players we can use over there.

Will the tour hinder attempts to improve fitness?
We’re staying in Australia for ten days, so I think the tour has been structured quite well. Of course there are some flights but after the long one and the one on the way back I don’t think it will be a problem.

They all have individual programmes. Some need strength, some need cardiovascular stuff, it’s all different.

I have said it many times - you like to see yourself in the players and for me, the last two weeks before we came into pre-season, that was my time to try to get fit to impress the gaffer when we started.

Will the sort of shape players return in decide who has a role to play?
Definitely and it's hard sometimes for the young kids. I've been in the reserves and we send them away come on 'look after yourself' because you never know what the manager is going to do when you come back after the summer.

I've seen some of the young lads who have a chance to go with the first team and they've come back in a state and they know who they are. They aren't playing football anymore at the level they should be. They own their own fate to be fair.

Interesting... I wonder who he could be referring to?
