My captain shall always play
On the pitch i really don’t think we do.Symbolically of course it may look bad but we have far bigger problems than this one.
Yeah, it's just making our senior player as club captain but on field it will be someone else as he won't be a first choice next season.Tweet

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to offer Paul Pogba a captaincy role at Manchester United as part of a plan to keep him at the club this summer.
Ashley Young, the 33-year-old right back is expected to become club captain next season after United decided against extending the contract of present skipper, Antonio Valencia.

So basically our vice-captain will be our captain most of the time.
I dont know if I can handle another season of Young being captain and starting games at full back.Refuse to believe this.
DDG had been the best for that, but not captain material, unfortunately.I think some of you guys underestimate how important it is in modern football to have someone in the dressing room with a good taste in Hip hop. Definitely worth keeping, who else would be their DJ?
It's inexcuseable if he's playing regularly next season. In fact, if he is then I'll be convinced that any cnut can be a football manager as it's too stupid for any single supporter to even make a case for it. Alex Telles and Meunier, two players much better than Young that we could sign but are currently linked to smaller clubs. There's an easy way out right there and it wouldn't cost a lot. There's so many options. Young is not good enough for the PL anymore.I dont know if I can handle another season of Young being captain and starting games at full back.
There is zero reason for this madness.
What alternatives are there? From what i read, Young is a leader in the group and dressing room, so it makes sense. If Ole does this, that will remove all of the good will he's had to date , and will look just as much as an idiot as some people believe he is.
Unforgivable decision. I have to believe it's not true.
Both of them should be nowhere near the armbandTweet

No wonder we've been shit, uninspired etc etcWhat alternatives are there? From what i read, Young is a leader in the group and dressing room, so it makes sense.
Ole never said "My captain always plays".
You guys are way too dramatic.
Leader of who? Jones, Smalling, and Shaw? What alternatives are there? From what i read, Young is a leader in the group and dressing room, so it makes sense.

Well said.Thanks.. Dont know how that helps?
Dont know how you were raised but I know my mom told me that if I couldnt say anything positive or constructive I shouldnt bother saying anything at all. I think me being off the Caf when Ashley Young captains Utd next season shouldnt really matter much as we will have enough people ready to spew poison over him, Ole and the club without me.
I have supported Utd since 84 and will keep on supporting Utd till I die but I really dont want to spend my time next season spewing profanities online every week, if you see that as supporting your club I guess you could do with a break too.
No, giving his captaincy doesn't mean he will play regularly. Obviously he will play as he has 1 year contract and will be back up. Valencia was club captain and he barely played last season. Rooney was also captain and he wasn't regular player under Jose. Van Gaal made Carrick was vice captain and he wasn't regular player. On the pitch i really don’t think we do.
Young as a first choice fullback on either side is a symbol of our inability to function as a football team.
Awarding him the captaincy is a sign he will ‘be involved‘ next season & his performances don’t warrant inclusion.
He recently signed an extension so we’re not selling him/he isn’t leaving but how you reward his performances last season with the captaincy is beyond me.
I honestly feel the wingers at fullback issue is the biggest & longest term issue in our current squad.
Too young? If we bought De Ligt, I’d want him made captain, as he is a genuine leader. Age isn’t a barrier, it’s experience and personal qualities. We are in such state of desrepair that I would consider giving Scott McTominay the captaincy on the back of his performance against PSG. Of course, he is too young. But we need players with courage, not wimps like Ashley Young, JLingz, or Jones. It’s plain to see where the problems are, but apparently OLE doesn’t see it. The season hasn’t started but we are already in the dumps.
There’s no improvement that he can get out of Young, JLingz, or Jones. These are not young prospects that are somehow going to become better and improve the team. Instead of making young captain, he should be cleared out. Give his spot to one of those prospects you say are coming in, or give someone from our youth squad a crack at it. Fullback position is such an important position in the modern football game (for example, 2 Liverpool fullbacks had 20+ assists between both) that we should not even contemplate using Ashley Young for even 1 more game. And yet he is being made captain?Too young? If we bought De Ligt, I’d want him made captain, as he is a genuine leader. Age isn’t a barrier, it’s experience and personal qualities.
I’d suggest you look at who’s in the dumps, it’s not Ole, it’s the toxic lot on the Caf and other forums who constantly moan about the club in here who are. The hindsight bunch who always know better and don’t see a project.
United are rebuilding and we’re being linked to players exactly like Ole said he was after, potential. So he can build them up into better players and improve the team.
If he fails, at least we’ll not be lumbered with players on huge contracts, that’ll impede the next managers plans. If he succeeds then absolutely fantastic. Guy bleeds United and is being supported by a very experienced team.

I feel like I've heard similar things when Jose announced last summer that Young will start 50 games the next season. If there is something that can make me lose faith in Ole this would be it, I guess time will tell.
Are you referring to Young or OLE? Because depending on how many games Young gets, your statement would fit either one.Perhaps this is the beginning of his exit. Only one more season to endure. Hopefully.
Young, actually. Something like the final season of Valencia. Are you referring to Young or OLE? Because depending on how many games Young gets, your statement would fit either one.
Let’s hope so, because if Young starts 30+ games then I’m afraid your statement would apply to OLE.Young, actually. Something like the final season of Valencia.
I hope it’s the one that’s aliveOld boys' club. Once you're in, you're in for life.
One of the chuckle brothers will be the next captain once Young retires at age 43.
He's an inspirational captain in that no matter how shite a player is, they'll look at Ashley Young and think that could be me one day too.
