Lingard is a squad player of a top club and is well below par the level of JSP that some people compare him to. Moreover, him trying to spin off his shite JLings brand by using Manchester United as a platform along with his idiotic claims and pimp clothing does add a bit fuel to the fire in nerves of hundreds of millions of United fans who have been badly burnt by mediocrity ever since SAF retired.

The percentage appears to be a reference to a statistic put forward by the author Michael Calvin in an interview with Business Insider in 2017, as he said just 0.012 per cent of players who play organised youth football will make it into the Premier League.

Ok.
Anybody know what that is as a fraction?

======= ======== ======= ========

"The most damning statistic of all is only 180 of the 1.5 million players who are playing organised youth football in England at any one time will make it as a Premier League pro.

"That's a success rate of 0.012%.

"Pretty much the sort of chances of you being hit by a meteorite on your way home."

Abusing them for their dressing takes away the focus from their god awful performances. It gets them off the hook lightly by making them genuine victims. People should stop it. Instead, focus on how shit they are on the pitch.

Most definitely, Rashford takes the game seriously and you can tell he wants to improve and get better. Lingard not so much, he takes everything for a joke.
Rashford looks changed lately. He is not that humble schoolboy anymore. The atmosphere pogba and lingard and many others set in the dressing room has had a negative effect on his focus and concentration in his game.

It's normal at his age, he's in the final stages of developing from a boy into a man, one day he's the quickest geezer at the club, the next he's getting beat in sprints by Fred the Red in full clobber, and it takes a lot of getting used too, but yeah let's blame Jesse for it.....

This obviously a stupid fact but this current United team isn't shit, it's among the best teams in England and in the world. Lingard and Rashford not only managed to become professional footballers but they are rightfully playing in the top echelon. These things are relative, while as fans of United we want to have the best players from a football/result standpoint, it's important to remember that players linke Rashford and Lingard have not been handed a spot, they competed for it against thousands of kids and young adults, they should be proud of that but as United players they should also aim higher and try to go at the very top of football.

It is possible to acknowledge their personal achievements while also push them to do more, we don't have to be bitter and incredibly negative about everything and everyone.

Both are good players and this fanbase is clueless.
Or maybe just you, please go back to Lukaku thread and defend him some more before he fcuks off to Inter.

Rashford still has time on his side, but he needs great attacking coach to help him with his development. His attitude seems off at the moment.

No hope for JLingz though.

I think in the case of Lingard, every single manager he has played under for United has favoured him: LVG, Mourinho and now Ole. The former two are big time managers that he seen it all as well.

At international level he's also favoured by Southgate. One thing that England have said that is now a pre-requisite for all players in all age groups is that they have humility.

I think for the England senior team the team spirit is key and that is why Lingard is popular with the coaching staff. Folks on here might find him cringe worthy but he's a lively character who brings energy to proceedings.

It all just makes me sceptical that he some sort of poison in the well.

Exactly, I mentioned it before but you need people like Pogba and Lingard who don't get easily depressed, you want people that will dance and smile even when everything isn't perfect, it creates a balance within the team with other players that are way too affected by negative contexts. Maybe the dressing room lacks players that will push the group higher and if it's the case we need to find this type of leader but there isn't a world where you don't need lively characters because otherwise it's very easy to become and stay extremely negative.

Finally, some sense being spoken in this thread.

I honestly find it staggering the way so many people have turned this into a really personal dislike of two young Manchester lads who grew up as passionate fans of the same club we all support. They may or may not be good enough but there is zero evidence of them being unprofessional in training and all the performance metrics consistently show then as the hardest working players in our squad on match-day. The whole thing paints so many of ye in a bad light. Genuinely embarrassing.

If only they were this critical of improving their own game. I hate how Rashford has settled in and made himself comfortable without any consequences.

Can’t believe they’d post such a thing. It’s just a participation % anyways. They’re acting like they’re star players yet they’re far from it. Lingard will never be anything more than a squad player and Rash has the potential or shows flashes here and there but too inconsistently. No different than running for office in your country. Sure there’s thousands of candidates but does it really matter or make you special if you’re just 1 of the average/subpar candidates? No it doesn’t. Spin it however you like, that you’re one of the 0.0345929% to be a candidate. But if you’re not influential and just some average Joe, then it’s just a participation award and self pat on the back because you won’t be a difference maker or the top 1% of the top 1%. Don’t just be happy making it. Do more than that and go beyond it. So it’s why it rubs me the wrong way. Makes it seem as if they’re just glad they made it this far and don’t care much more than that...

In the entirety of recorded human history, only 1 person has ever been hit by a meteorite. The chances of that, even if you just take world population at the moment is 1 in 7,500,000,000. Becoming a Premier League footballer in comparison is unremarkable.

Yeah, that meteorite thing is just so obviously wrong. 180 in 1.5 million would see thousands of people getting nailed by meteorites in the UK alone!

You haven’t answered my question. Do you even know what “pissing their career away” means?
I’ll answer in 5 years time when at least one of those will be playing in some farmers league.

I’m sure you’ve heard the joke about the waiter and George best “where did it all go wrong”

Can't believe there are still people who continue to believe that they way someone dresses and uses social media dictates how they play on a football pitch.

Meanwhile admiring the hardmen players from the 1990s who would be kicked out of most PL clubs nowadays for being self confessed alcoholics.

They can wear what they want if they are doing it on the pitch, if not they need to shut up and concentrate on their main job. Reminds me of when someone asked Fergie why Eric was allowed to wear trainers at a united function, simple answer. Play like him you can wear what you want :D

George Best, the famously alcoholic footballer. He really did piss his career away. I'm still waiting for you to explain why the same description would apply to Lingard or Rashford?

JLingz is embarrassing our true academy legends. Where were Scholes,Becks Giggs and co at the age of 27? PL & CL champions. No clothing lines, no perfumes, no media nonsense. Even after achieving the elite status they didn't act foolish like these guys, they remained humble and kept wanting to win and improve more. If Jesse was banging them in and putting in 7/10 performances every game no one would care about his brand, but he's just taking the p!ss now, season's been terrible just keep your head down and focus on your football. SAF would of have these guys long gone I'm certain.

I thought Depay was cringy but Lingard is actually more cringy.
God help us. I'd hate it if Rashford becomes a personality like him, Rashford has always came across as an intelligent and down to earth bloke in interviews.

Did you even know about Beckham ?
"David was the only player I managed who chose to be famous, who made it his mission to be known outside the game," wrote Ferguson. "I felt uncomfortable with the celebrity aspect of his life."

In a press conference on Tuesday to launch his book, Ferguson added: "He fell in love with Victoria - that changed everything."
As much as I love Becks, but let's not rewrite history here.

There was no Twitter or other platforms way back then for them, but if there had been they would've been exactly the same, Gary Nev would have thought he'd died and gone to heaven, plus Giggs and Beckham did plenty of modelling stuff in their early 20s till SAF clamped down on it.

I'd of had no problem with it, these guys won 6 (Becks), 10 (Nev), 11(Scholes) & 13 (Giggs) PL's respectively. They can do what the feck they want.
