What does that Stone guy even know?
Apart from those odd comments about Young and a few others, I thought he was actually spot on with regards to the problems we have.

He also said at the end that it's a damning indictment of Utd squad that he's naming McTominay and Young as two players he's keeping on effort. Also said that ideally effort shouldn't be a criteria of keeping players.
That's the same bs Neville spout of him not going after players like young because the level they are playing at is what one should expect of them.

Yeah me too, although it's not like he's saying anything new or that he has any inside knowledge so it's not worth much. He speaks a lot about us lacking a plan but that's been the case for years and everybody knows it. It's why we all want a DoF to be appointed.

Ole's 4 wanted signings.

Koulibaly---------- = too expensive
Wan Bissaka-------= too expensive
Jadon Sancho------= No chance
Ndombele----------= Maybe

So who are Plan B....

Interesting claim. Castles going against the briefing and saying Herrera was offered a pay cut by United not a pay rise.

Stone's points were valid, although mostly things we knew here and there. But he compiled it well enough. Good Summary of where we stand, but no exact solution on what we need to do.

Yep he also said that yesterday in the podcast that linked us strongly with Maddison and the French keeper.

Herrera was on about 75-80k a week. I don't believe we offered less.

Any interesting info?
It's an opinion piece. And I just learned Simon Stone has a terrible evaluation of players and what Ole wants at United. He's suggesting Ole does not know if he wants 3 or 4 at the back (obviously it's 4). He says no point getting wingers if you play a diamond (forgetting James can play direct and cut into central roles. As I'm sure can Sancho). Also weirdly rates Rashford and Martial.

Whatever the club tells him. All he does is parrot the party line. As far as I can tell, he knows little/nothing about football and certainly is not the guy you go to for an 'inside scoop' on any subject.

No he was suggesting he would go with 3 at the back, or that the club should to give Pogba more of a platform. I disagree btw, but thats what I took from what he was saying.

If Pogba leaves and DDG isn't signing a new contract (which means he could be sold too), it will be a massive massive rebuild.
GK, RB, CB, CM x 3, RW, CF (provided Lukaku leaves, which looks like he will). That's 8 players with only Shaw, Lindelof and one of Rash/Martial remaining out of the current starting 11.
No way can we buy 8 starters in one window. Also having almost an entirely new starting 11 would mean the team takes a long time to gel
Its exactly what we need - a re-build.

The issue is we need about 10 to leave and 7-8 to come in, which is massive for 1 window,

This is Ole's problem - dealing with the mess from 3 previous managers.

Until we start selling players we will be stuck with them.

Time to be ruthless and sell.

Jones/Smalling/Rojo/Darmian/Lingard/Sanchez should all be sold this summer.
DDG if he doesn't sign as he cannot leave for free in a year
Lukaku/Pogba can also go if they want.

Time to start thinking of the club. If any player doesn't want to be here - there's the door.

I'd rather sell a bunch this summer in a massive cull and sign 3 or 4 and use our youth team and build the team up with signings over the next 3-4 windows than go through another season of this squad. It needs an overhaul and quickly

Or we can just keep putting plasters on crap, the team has not gelled in years, might as well start again as we would be more or less where we are now anyway

He said that the problem United have is, its OK saying they want AWB but if the manager wants to play 3 at the back then AWB doesn't fit.

It's quite obvious what Ole wants to embed and he's not going to buy players that don't fit his system. He was basically saying it's all well and good buying talent but if you "don't know what the back of the jigsaw box looks like, youl never complete the puzzle". Im sure Ole knows the style and system he wants to embed which is why I thought Stones was broadly chatting rubbish.

He seemed to discard Felix and went on to talk about the lack of a need for wingers in a diamond, which tells me he doesn't know anything about where Felix plays.

Yes that quote came after him saying that he would play 3 at the back to get the best out of Pogba, I don't think he was saying Ole wants to play 3 at the back

Have PSG even signed him yet? Don't think I've seen anything official apart from him leaving us.

When did journalists become pundits? Referring to Stone saying who he'd keep etc.

I mean, that's a general trend in journalism that they're not reporting the news, they're commenting on them simultaneously. When and why did that happen?

Chatting absolute rubbish. If there is any hint of truth he is saying then i seriously am worried about the future of this club.

I’d assume you aren’t too interested in the CL and the money and attraction it brings to players who we might want to sign as part of that rebuild then? Because if we can that lot on top of everything else we’ve got a bottom five midfield and a deeply unbalanced squad, even with 3/4 in. If Pogba leaves we need three midfielders for starters, and even if we got them there’s no way they gel quickly. We may as well write off CL for 3/4 years minimum. These ideas of a mass cull are all well and good but if you watch the academy kids regularly you’d see that guys like Garner, Laird, Gomes etc aren’t ready for first team football yet. Greenwood and Chong are in the cusp, but we couldn’t rely on them.
