Koeman on De Ligt “I spoke to Matthijs about his future and that’s secret. The most important thing is to keep playing, getting minutes to develop your football. The way a club is playing is also an important decision in your choice”

Again the idea of playing time and getting minutes. The bit about the way the club is playing is crucial too though - hopefully Ole sells him the idea of how we play in the first 30 mins of games and that it will be the way we play for the whole 90 minutes next season. Also read reports saying that Umtiti is staying at Barca?

If liverpool get him we are officially finished as a top club.
Liverpool will have an issue with their top players if they bring in DeLigt instantly on a higher wage. They’d have contract renewal requests galore
I really don't see Liverpool spending a load on another CB.

They need a backup left back (and maybe right back) and cover for Mane/Salah who are bound to be exhausted after another international tournament this summer. It would be stupid to spend so much on De Ligt.

If that Barca quote is real (surely not), it's absolutely hilarious how salty Barca are.

Liverpool are becoming a major threat to Utd & Barca for De Ligt, this champions league win could really swing it in their favour.

I need to stop looking at Skybet odds because the scousers keep shortening as the day goes on. They have gone from 7/1 to 4/1 this afternoon.

If this quote is real it makes no sense. He would integral to a massive project at United, not a benchwarmer in Barcelona or at least not a guaranteed starter. His ambition should be playing regularly, something he will definitely get at United.
Too easy. Yes, he has to make sure he plays. But he's also 19. The question is; should he join a club where he's expected to lead the defense from day one? Or a club where he may not be the first one on the board, but will be able to learn from experienced players?

Well he’s already said he wants to play, so..

Odds mean absolutely nothing. It's just people reacting to rumours in papers. Same as United's odds, they're influenced heavily by what comes out in the media. I remember when we signed Pogba, Zidane said something about wanting Pogba and Real being open to him coming. Real's odds shortened hugely that day, yet he ended up at United anyway.

Well he's not the typical 19 yo though. Looked confortable wearing the armband of the biggest club of his country, while nearly reaching the CL final. He certainly deals well with expectation given his age.

Any truth in Ronald Koeman telling De Ligt to join a club where he will be playing and to choose a club on how they are currently playing? If that is true and he takes that advice then we would be out. But he could also just be an askhole(someone who asks for advice and does the opposite) Is from the express so he could be signing for a team from Mars next.https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...lks-Holland-Ronald-Koeman-rumours-gossip-news

I think it's looking certain that De Ligt is going to be our player.
Going through each of the teams that have been linked with him, and one can rule out every team out due to a valid reason
Liverpool- if MdL is rejecting Barca, that means momey is crucial to him. If he's looking for 250k/week, Pool will have to renegotiate contracts of nearly every player as there is no way VVD, Salah, Mane, TAA, Robertson will agree to be on lesser wages than a 19 year old kid.
Bayern- Wages reason (same as above) and they've just signed Pavard and Hernandez. Add to that they have Hummels and Sule. Matthijs has already said that playing time and development is going to be important to him.
Juventus - The question remains whether Juve can even afford his wages- They have Ronaldo and Ramsey on huge wages and one can be certain that Dybala, Cancelo, Sandro, Matuidi, etc would be on high wages as well. Additionally, the next question is around game time- They have Chiellini, Bonucci and Rugani on their books and while 2 of them are getting older, Chiellini still remains among the finest CBs in the game today.
PSG- Wages is something that shouldn't be a problem for them, however it's his development that will be hindered by playing here. Since he has focused on becoming better defender in each of his interviews and wanting more responsibilities, it becomes clear that PSG won't be able to offer either of the two. Additionally, thanks to PSG effectively keeping another Raiola client, Veratti as hostage, one can expect PSG to not get any favours there as well
Barcelona- In an ideal world MdL would have become a Barca player by now. However, with their struggles of agreeing wages and agent fee having become clearer, it seems clear that he won't be signing for them unless they manage to find money they can allocate there. What would be concerning is they have a poor wage/turnover ratio, which would mean that they would need to ship out players with significant wages out, before they can even think of signing him. And if reports of them planning on signing Neymar or Griezmann are to be believed, there is no way in hell that they can do that. Add to that growing fears among the Catalan newspapers which points in direction that they aren't confident in pulling this at all.

Additionally, Raiola clients are more of journeymen players. Apart frpm Verrati, there isn't a single player on his books that has stayed at a single club for 8-9 years or more, atleast not in last 10 years or so.
Finally, De Ligt has seen the importance of patience by not jumping at the 1st opportunity on joining the biggest names in football from Eriksen. This makes me quite optimistic that OT is going to be Matthijs' new home

The only big difference between Barcelona and United is Messi. They've been doing the same stupid shit United have been doing on a larger scale but Messi has covered their asses enough to not make it look worse.
