When Coutinho goes for £130m we are fair to ask for £180m for Pogba. When Morata gets sold for £50m we are fair to ask over £70m for Lukaku.. But when the best CB in the league cost £75m I don’t see how Maguire is considered ‘more’ expensive.
We are asking for top whack and trying to offer sh!te pretty hypocritical of Woody.

Where's the DOF?
For those just tuning in, United have not signed Maguire. General themes:

1. He’s not worth that!? Ridiculous fee, what about De Ligt, Stones, Rio, Paddy Crerand etc? He’s a donkey, not United standard, loses the ball, turns like HMS Ark Royal etc.
2. He is worth that given the context; English, United conspicuously desperate for a CB, Foxes intend to compete, flush owners and don’t need to sell.
3. We can manage without him. Tuanzebe looks promising post loan, Jaap looked feisty at the Treble reunion, maybe Bailly comes good this year, let’s blow the budget on Koulibaly etc.
4. Let’s re-consider Maguire, maybe Leicester will bottle it and lower the number if he forces a move.
5. If you don’t want to pay the asking price, then jog on.
6. If we don’t close this off soon, Leicester will retain him rather than be left with a gap (although they might bring someone through from youth or buy Dunk, Tah etc). Deal off.
7. Repeat.

Good summation.
Number 1 is definitely the recurring theme. This lad will have to win over a fair few if he comes

Rodgers took over on Feb 26th. Leicester took home the 5th most points while United took home the 12th. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Like I said, Leicester are extremely ambitious and crucially, now in a position to challenge for the top 6. Not just that, we’re strong enough to refuse to sell to a rival for those places.
What is that 10 games? anyhow, Leicester have all the right to think they can cut the line to the big 6, but that aint going to happen, weather they hold on onto Maguire or not.

Steady. We’re not entitled to anything at United - the past six seasons underline that. Leicester have lifted a Premiership since us and Rodgers is a good, progressive manager with a decent young squad and rich ownership.

No matter if we sign him or not, I do enjoy the newly found cockiness of the Leicester supporters. With or without Maguire, I really doubt that you‘ll even be getting close to pushing any team out of the top six. At the end of the day you‘re just Leicester City. A fantastic and exciting league title, which I also enjoyed, but I really don‘t see anything more than an easy upper mid-table finish.

I'm Thai, i known from a source who are a HIGHER LEVEL LCFC admin board (One of Khun tob team). He confirm me that:

1 MUFC is only club that McGuire considerable to move for.
2 MUFC have offer for McGuire, but not a digits that show on a newspaper. (he tells me it not pure 70M GBP but it is X+ BIG-add-on = 70)
3 LCFC Admin board will agree the move if total package is more than 75M GBP (WR). (I ask them if it is 76M? He said it's OK).
4 He tell me that Ed Woodward known this well, and it seem he very arrogant with LCFC board when deal with.

About time we started asking good.money for our players.
I take your point but if it means by us asking silly money that we can't get in hew players until we get the cash from the sale, I think we should ask more realistic prices, to get sales done quicker to enable us to recruit the players we need sooner mate.

I do not think united are entitled to anything. I am just putting my opinion and my expectation, there are no guarantees sure. But Leicester finished 14, 1, 12, 9, 9 in the past 5 seasons. I think they do not have the squad depth to break into the top 6.

So sell our players for cheaper just to get in the cash just to be overcharged for players we want to buy? Stop it. We've been mugged off too much already.

I think Maguire might have to hand in a transfer request to get this done. That way we will see if Leicester will offer to improve his wages if they really don't need to sell, show him how much you want him.

  1. Leicester are extremely ambitious.
  2. Leicester don’t want to sell him.
  3. Leicester don’t need the money.
  4. Maguire isn’t forcing a move (likely because he’d prefer to go to Man City)
  5. Leicester wouldn’t need to buy a replacement.
  6. Hull City have a sell-on clause, so the higher the fee the better for us.
  7. Leicester rate Maguire very highly.
  8. He’s one of the best CBs in the league and a full England international.
  9. He’s entering his prime and has potential to be top class.
  10. You’ve just spent £50m on a RB with one season in the Prem.
  11. Leicester won’t, and can’t be bullied.
  12. There’s 3 weeks until the window closes and the price will start going up.
You’re a Leicester fan so of course you are going to say all the above.

1. The club is so ambitious you have lost your best players since you won league. United are far more ambitious and whether you like it or not United are always going to bigger than Leicester City.

6. Extremely debatable he’s one of the best CB in the league. Maybe the best CB outside the top 4.

11. You were bullied for Kanté and Mahrez. The only reason you kept Vardy from leaving was because you put him on stupid money. I expect Maguire to leave as well.

The only thing in your favour is he signed a 5 year contract only last year.

I think the hardest club to sign a player from outside the top 6. Not that long ago the won the Prem and whilst it may never happen again, Leicester are part of a very, very exclusive club of teams that kind of separates them from others. Given the sad circumstances surrounding losing their chairman, its galvanised the club in an emotive way that I'd imagine you feel obligated to stay. They have one of the most exciting teams with young players in the Prem and all that aside, he's English with a long contract and they are minted.....

Leicester can value him at 200 million if they want, when are fans of the richest clubs going to cotton on that smaller clubs don't need to sell if they don't want to - we all have money now and Leicester feel no need to sell him hence the big price tag.

In a way I hope for his sake this transfer won't go through, if he arrives for 80 million (not his fault in the slightest) the slating he will get from some fans after his first mistake will be massive.

On the other hand totally agree with the bolded bit, with Maguire and AWB your defence will be infinitely better than last year.

Finally Leicester won't go for Tah, apparently they already have Dunk lined up from Brighton.
But when are fans of smaller clubs going to realise the players have their own ambitions as well. Maguire is 27 next season and probably wants to play Champions League football (or at least Europe) and winning trophies. He has a far better chance at doing that with United than he does at Leicester.

Why keep an unhappy player? Even United and Chelsea have had to sell unhappy players to the likes of Real Madrid. It’s just how the football pyramid works. Smaller clubs having money isn’t going to change that fact.

You’re entitled to your opinion, of course. But you were telling a Leicester fan that under no circumstances were they going to break into the top six. Admittedly you didn’t place a timeframe on that - but either way, I don’t see how you can justify it. Maybe holding onto defenders like Maguire is exactly how they build a side routinely challenging for top six - Puel got the hook because they’re not content with mid table and the last time we saw Rodgers in the PL he was missing out on the title by a point or two with the scousers. You have to start somewhere and 10 years ago, Man City were buying Lescott and Barry... In terms of squad depth, the impression I get is that we’ve been far more interested in their players (Maddison, Maguire) than they have in ours over the window. Just my opinion.

I don't disagree with that, but in a negotiation, you can't start at the price you want, someone will always bid you lower.

Plus maybe we the club actually want to keep Pogba, hence pricing him out of a move?

I think the poster's point 4 is the most concerning tbh. Mahrez and Kante wanted to leave for the bidding club. If some reports are to be believed then Maguire isn't pushing for a move to United. Add the fact that Leicester doesn't want to sell... That's where we are.

Nah, they sold Kante and Mahrez with ease who were even more integral than Maguire to them.

We are getting mugged of because we are United and he’s English. Don’t get me wrong though, he’s a great player. Back to the point, I think West Ham would be harder to deal with.

Bang on the money, it really is that simple.
People who refuse to compare this transfer to Utd not willing to sell Pogba are deluded, it is not about a player comparison, but in both scenario's the owning club does not want to sell their asset, and obscene prices have been quoted (how reliably I am unsure).

Remove the name Maguire if it helps with understanding, and just say clubx does not wish to sell playery, cost to do so is at clubx's value.

Sigh - 1 post left on my limit for today after this, will save it for inevitable scandalous post about Leicester keeping Harry prisoner, in chains, without food or water, or something.

Even though it’s ‘Sky sources’ reporting it I love the idea of Maguire wanting to follow in the footsteps of his idols in Rio and Vidic and also being honoured to play for us, for too long we’ve had players come simply for the money and put in a half shift at best most of the time.

Is Maguire the best ? No but he’s the best option available to us and a quality Premier League player who’s played Champions League and World Cup football. At 26 his best years are ahead of him and he’s an organiser as well as a leader and that’s two things we seriously lack, we need characters in the squad like him for our rebuild.
I don't think he's ever played in the Champions League.

Well, on some level it actually seems comparable to the Pogba Situation, doesn't it? The player wants better chances of winning trophies but has a long contract. Most Premier League Clubs are loaded and don't need to sell if their valuations are not met. The major difference to Pogba just seems to be that Real is not able or willing to pay a record fee for Pogba whereas United seems willing to pay a record fee for Maguire. But Leicester has no more reason to accept offers below their own valuation of Maguire than United does for Pogba (though the scale of the prices and list of potential suitors is of Course very different).

agree on point in bold. Although I would like to get rid of a lot of players, we can't do it in one window as we would be desperately low on numbers. The deadwood needs to be pjased out preferably 2 going this summer, then see where we are next year and try to get another few out. It's a rebuilding process which is going to take several windows but I have faith in Ole to do it mate
I agree, but we should get the 2 in before our transfer window closes and then 3 weeks to ship 2/3 out?

Interesting point in bold and something I have been thinking about and feel that might be the case mate, as Iv'e found it strange the prices I've heard we've been asking have risen from £150m to £180, although these quotes may be crap. Although I think Pogba should move on, if he was to stay and get him head down, perform consistently and not just turn up when he feels like. I would gladly have him here as he immense on his day.

What goals? All 12 of them? Sergio Ramos scored 11 goals last season, so congrats Rom, you got one more goal than a centre back. Well bloody done, you sure are earning that 250k a week.

Mate, Lukaku is shit. We could play any one of Rashford, Sanchez, Martial or Greenwood at #9, and that's without making a new signing, which we probably would.

Agreed. Although that's not hard, Stones is the most overrated centre back in world football. I really hope he's starting for City next season.
Ramos only scored 6 league goals last season to Lukaku's 12. It wasn't a great season for Lukaku scoring wise but lets not fudge stats. Last season was the worst scoring season pretty much in his senior career, before that he was averaging around 25 goals a season for 3-4 years.

He's not easy on the eye he has his limitations and i don't think he suits the football Solskjaer wants to play. But he scores lots of goals and thats rare in football, which is why we paid £75m for him and Inter will pay a similar amount.

James
Wan-Bissaka
Greenwood
Gomes
Chong
Garner
Tuanzebe

7 new player in our first team squad, Garner probably is going back to the U23 squad once season start, but that is still a lot of changes made over the summer. Next season Fred will also essentially function as a new signing considering he almost did not get played last season.
Not really, because Greenwood, Gomes, Chong, Garner have already been involved with the aquad from last year. Chong was involved in last pre season and played part last season?

If Gomes is going to be a big part, why not let Mata leave for free?

Tuanzebe is young and I dont think you want him as a starter? He could potentially be backup.

We can get away without a RW or an attacking mid IMO. It's the dm/CM (one of the 2 depending on McTominays future) and the CB which we absolutely need.

Right wing we have options throughout between Mata/lingard as experienced players who are meh, to James/Chong/Greenwood who are young and getting roles in the first team. The plan might well be to get Sancho, but we're just waiting until he's ready to move. Giving youth the chance while we wait isn't an awful plan in that situation, especially when you have youth like Greenwood.
This is madness, you surely can't be serious? Mata/Lingard? By your logic, we do not need a CB at all, we have plenty of options there, too: Smalling, Lindelöf, Jones, Bailly, Rojo, Tuanzebe...

RW and CM are both more important than a CB. We had zero attacking threat through the right last season and that's not going to change if we rely on Mata and Lingard.

I agree that we should get the 2 in as soon as possible, for the same reason I think we should do all out transfer dealings early to give them more time to gel with the squad. I sadly think though that Woody wants to sell before we buy, which could work against us as negotiations may take so long we fail to complete the signing in time it teams add more to the valuation of a player the later we leave it as they know we will be desperate at that point mate.

The thing I don’t get is how Leicester can value him at £80m. If I was Leicester I would snap their hand off. They can get a half decent replacement for much less money. They can afford to take a gamble on some youngster in the French or German league - someone like Jonathan Tah.

£80m is a helluva lot of money for Maguire. Clearly way too much for his talent but we are in a desperate situation and I personally feel signing him and AWB our back four will be a lot stronger this season.

Just need a DM to replace Herrera and Fellaini. In fact I find it amazing we are linked with Bruno Fernandes at all. Doesn’t fit into our system. Are we intending to put Pogba back into a midfield two again and letting our back 4 get exposed like it always does when he plays there? CB, DM and RW still required imo. I think we will only get one more player in.[/QUOTE]

Such arrogance, that's what gives Utd fans a bad name. It's like "how dare they not give us the player we want..." They are fully entitled to hold on to the player they bought who turned out to be a very shrewd buy. They already took a gamble on some youngster and it has paid off, why should they have to do it again because we now want that player. Why should they now sell to us a buy a lesser quality replacement for themselves with no guarantee it would work out? Fortune favours the brave, we could have bought him two years ago but didn't. They don't need the money. Just because we want him now doesn't mean they should sell him. They are ambitious too.

Which is annoying cause prior to the season finishing, £200m was a figure going around. 3 months later spent £75m and we are told that we must sell to buy?

Whereas Chelsea with a transfer ban spend £100m albeit Pulisic was in Jan.

I do not get how we do our transfers, surely they must have someone in the club who can sort this out?

They haven't though, if you meet our valuation and Harry wants to go then they will not stand in his way, pretty simple really.

As for BR I personally would rather have a manager with experience, I feel OGS will be out of his depth and one of the first EPL managers sacked, time will tell but it's all opinions eh?
Pretty happy with BR, as you call him, at Liverpool he was know simply as Brendan, at Swansea he was Known as The Manager, with a Big head. At Celtic he managed in a league that's pretty poor let's be fair.

He's got experience alright at messing things up, and how many managers have the foxes sacked in last few years!!! BR will be on top of my list, BR bloody rubbish. Ohh and lock up the players wife's he likes a dabble around.

If Manchester United were properly managed then we would have moved away from this mess long ago. The reality is that we're getting close to the transfer deadline and all we have signed is a RB from Crystal Palace and some kid from the Championship. Meanwhile Herrera has left, DDG has yet to sign a new contract, Pogba and Lukaku are unhappy & Matic is a year older. We're a frigging mess.

Woody can only do one transfer at a time, mate and that takes a couple of weeks. So would not like to depend on him getting any transfer over the line the last day.
