About to say the same, people keep saying he’s too expensive and we could do better, but I’m yet to see an example of one of these cheaper/superior players.
We keep saying this while other clubs find them though. I think that's what frustrates people.

I would have probably spent the money on the 10, DM and RW we need, but it'll be nice to have an actual threat at set pieces and Maguire's biggest flaw is his intelligence/awareness issues and a lot of CBs do tend to improve on that score in their mid to late 20s so I'll be optimistic as hell about him making the leap from very good player to genuinely world class one.

But who though? Scousers and City have both spent big on CB's so i'm genuinely struggling, we've tried to gamble with Bailly - many of whom thought we'd unearthed a gem initially - and Lindelof to an extent and it hasn't worked.

I think its a lot to spend on him and don't think he's necessarily worth it, but if him and AWB improve our defence then £130m on these 2 is well worth the outlay.

He's got some very good qualities that are lacking in our backline. With his aerial prowess and superb ability on the ball, he'd aid our build up, and we'd be able to cover for our poor goalkeeper and average midfield. He is not the complete and cultured CB I'd like for that price, but I think we should pay up and bring him in.

I actually rather see Tuanzebe get the spot instead of spending money on Harry. Get us a propper defensive middlefielder instead.

How do we know if Tuanzebe is good enough to be first choice LCB? That's the position Maguire will be if we sign him. We can't just assume all our academy players are good enough and better than our current senior CBs, just because they are new.

Journos usually have a habit of overstating fees, especially when utd are involved. Think it ll be a structured deal worth upto 80 million. If we have to pay the bonus payments in the future, it ll mean he has done really well and i ll be happy with utd paying that.

On Dean jones, he seems to be followed by many journos including simon peach, hirst, ornstein etc also he did call perez to leicester. If its done, should come out with others soon enough.

Delaney saying an announcement is expected shortly. If he gets exposed again it would be ridiculous. How he’s still pumping out transfer news.

A pretty big point of it seems to be that we don't want add ons, just straight up the full value, and Dean Jones didn't break Perez, Geoff Peters from TalkSport did

Hoping we get others signed up now, if this news is legit. Maybe even a bruno/maguire/longstaff triple announcement

De Vrij, Gimenez, Romagnoli, Skriniar all would cost less and all are better players

I dont even think Varane would cost this much
De Vrij isn’t better. Skriniar has already been touted in the 80-100m euro range. And that’s the two I know about. Fairly certain your post is shit.

You are being naive.
Inter wanted 70 million for skriniar last year before he signed a new contract, de vrij isnt as good, Romagnoli i agree but he loves milan and probably will spend all his life there unless things go tits up completely and Milan have to sell him, Varane will cost over 100 million, so would koulibaly.

Hahahahahaha....sorry but really? You must be having a laugh. Did you not watch the match yesterday? Both De Vrij and Skriniar were complete rubbish. The amount of misplaced passes, missed tackles and general rubbish defending was clear for all to see. Chong took the piss out of Skriniar which is why he hacked him down in the end.

Mate, if you don't want us buying Maguire you are basically saying you're happy with yet another season of Smalling and Jones.

Tuanzebe will be fourth choice at best mate, possibly even further down that that depending if Bailly and Rojo stay. Forget pre-season, once the season starts Ole will want proven players in that starting 11 so pick your poison - Maguire or Smalling/Jones? Axel isn't an option.

I'm happy with this. Solid looking defensive unit being put together.

Midfielder now please and it's a decent looking summer.

‘The 2016 champions had been holding out for a deal worth £80m in total, and United are understood to have come up with acceptable terms, with around £10m wrapped up in conditional clauses.‘

Must be £70m upfront, with +£10m in bonuses.

Is Delaney still unreliable or has he redeemed himself over the last year
No he hasn’t redeemed himself but let’s see.

Apparently Stephen Howson has said that Maguire was 90% done.

 This is very reactionary one pre season game and they’re complete rubbish, alright chief. I guess Greenwood and Chong are world beaters already then considering we’re deciding a players ability based on a meaningless friendly. If this is true we shouldn’t bother buying a CB at all because Tuanzebe bossed it

So my post is shit because you don’t know half the players I mentioned.. understood makes sense.

At this point the money's irrelevant. fecked market and all, just have to take it.

With that said, he is not my favorite, but he certainly helps and hopefully he continues to improve himself to only make us better. His progression as a player has been fun to follow, but there are a couple steps left for him to improve to become the player we need and expect for that fee.
