Trying hard to not to get too excited about these Mustafi to Monaco rumours. The fact that they might even give us some cash too is gravy.
I'm convinced it's a windup. Even getting rid of Mustafi with no replacement is an upgrade.

But seriously, we must surely be looking at a central defender?

Reports that you lot are in for Umtiti and tierney. Looks like your summer has been good.

If we actually sell Mustafi to Monaco for 30m that'll be the best piece of business from us all summer

I remember the summer of 2016, when we got Bailly and you got Mustafi. One can't stay fit and the other one is just...bad.

If Umtiti is also a loan it would be fantastic. As good as he is blowing 60M on a CB with a dodgy knee is very risky for a club like Arsenal.
I hope we get Tierney over the line at the bare minimum. Tierney + Umtiti while selling Mustafi makes us Champions League and World Cup winners.

I don't get Kronke. His wife is a Walmart scion and he himself is loaded, yet he refuses to spend money on Arsenal while blowing cash on his NFL team. The mind boggles. Did any Arsenal fan piss him off or something?

He's an american businessman and has teams in every big sport. Most football clubs are not profitable. If you take fandom and emotion out of it he's probably well aware of what he's doing. The Liverpool dudes seems to be genuinely interested in the sport and the team and are going all in. Kroenke is not interested, fans are just hostages of the situation while he watch his earnings go up slowly but surely. It sucks.

He'd have to spend a fortune to make us competitive and even then success isn't guaranteed.

It doesn't make business sense at all.

Ah but the only reason he'd have to spend a fortune now is because the club didn't spend the little extra in the preceding decade, instead persisting with rubbish like Almunia, Silvestre and Chamakh...

I am still not convinced. They spend big on Allison and van Dijk, but that after selling Coutinho for big money. I blamed stupid Barca.

If Ceballos is a big part of them winning a cup or getting top four it would be worth it no?

Im guessing not having that CL money train is starting to bite for Arsenal. Once they move on a few of the big earners that dont do a lot like Ozil and Xhaka I think they will be in a much better position. The trouble will be finding buyers, much like RM and the stupidity of the Bale contract.
Or United with Sanchez.

Blame Wenger for that. There has never been a time when we couldn’t afford to buy players better than that. Wenger kept saying the market was crazy and overinflated yet since then player prices have tripled. Keeping massive cash reserves at a time when interest rates are at record lows while player prices were going up every season has to be one of the worst decisions any club has ever made.

Even if we had spent a little bit more, there's no guarantee we would have won a lot more. Maybe 1 or 2 PL titles, European glory is still a big lottery and in an era where you're fighting against Leo and Cristiano, you have even less chances.
It's very annoying but business wise if your financial advisors tells you to stay put and put in minimal investment as a sure way to earn in the long term, you do just that.

This is a typical Arsenal signing. Have needed a spine for ages yet still buy big name attackers when claim to have no money

'Big ammo' Raul means business. Now he has to sign Tierney, which seems like it is close to being done.

If he can convince someone to buy Mustafi and sign another CB - like Umtiti - then this will be a brilliant window for us.

Maybe because he looks like Danny Devito he gets underestimated?

I hope we can keep Koscielny for another season, but if not then we will need some experienced CB cover. I dread typing it, but maybe Cahill?

Dont know a thing about this one, just got told that he is RW and we dont need that, i mean who buys RWs these days anyway. Left footer on top of it, you can find lefties on every corner almost.

What a fecking signing
Really?

I admit, i haven't watched a single game in which Pepe played, i just watched the highlights.

He looks clumsy as feck. He get's away with it because of his speed, but feck me, his first touch is lame. Lukaku like.

I honestly don't think he'll be all that much in the PL. The only way i see it - if he somehow manages to fool the refs...get a privileged status like Hazard or Salah.

Otherwise, he'll get mugged a lot.

Their attack is going to be a big threat to our top 4 chances. I just hope their defence capitulates as usual.

God. We really needed a right winger now for years. One comes up and we completely ignore. I hate this clubs stupidity sometimes.
I posted this in the Transfer Forum thread:

Lille President Gerard Lopez confirms that, "we spoke to Inter, Athletico, Manchester United and PSG in recent weeks. Napoli and Arsenal were finally in balance at the end, and it was the London club that won the bet."

He also said (referring to the deal), "It's for €80 million fixed. If we pushed this out a little longer, we could've had 5 or 6 offers."

So it seems like United, amongst others, were interested but didn't get time to make a bid. Assuming that this was because you're currently wrapped up in the potential big Pogba, Fernandes, Lukaku, Dybala and Maguire deals.

Interesting. Any other players you're willing to provide comprehensive assessments on based on your admittedly small YouTube highlights based viewings?

I have not seen him much but looking at youtube he seems to dribble brainlessly into trouble a lot.

I haven't seen him much but reckon he's a great dancer and enjoys doing the dishes after a nice meal of cod and chips.

Big move, but they have massive areas to address before adding luxury attackers!
You haven't seen us play much if you think he's a luxury attacking player. Ozil has been dire, Mkhi even worse and Iwobi hot and cold. We have nothing from out wide but Pepe will hopefully change that.

[twitter]
Shows on one of the images there that we have the 11th highest number of shots on goal. I do think our poor attacking is also a major reason for our defensive issues. We struggle to keep the ball high up the pitch and usually lose it too easily, a lot of our goals are conceded from losing the ball cheaply. I am hoping Pepe & Ceballos will help in that regard this season.

Jokes aside the bold part is never going to happen regardless of appearance. He likely has top-notch connections and the respect from everyone in the game.

Dude looks like an extremely likeable person.

It wasn't a "comprehensive assessment", it was a thought, a review of his youtube highlights.

Like I said, i haven't watched a single game of Lille or IC, just saw a couple of 20 minutes YT videos.

And I stand by it - he looks clumsy.
It says great dribbles and such....they all look unintended to me.

But hey....we'll see.

Yes, he clumsily stumbled his way onto 30 goals and assists.

Yeah he's not underestimated, not sure where I was going with that one. He had a successful period at Barcelona so he has made a lot of contacts and friends over the years.

I think with Raul and Edu at the helm we will see a shift in our transfer policy. Well at least I hope we will.

Dig up.

Look I kind of get what you're saying. He seems a little unorthodox when he's dribbling, but he's got electric feet and is constantly trying things which results in him beating his man by catching them off guard.

He's going to cop some kicks though because of it, and that will translate into winning fouls.
