It's amazing, if this story is to be believed ( and to some extent now corroborated by Andy Mitten ) that Miguel Delaney gets away with printing such unmitigated BS about UTD's "advanced" position in the Eriksen transfer.
This guy is head football writer for the Independent! I still struggle with the seismic decline in the standards where the print media is concerned.

We were never going to get Eriksen at this stage. A shambles that we aren't eve able to get rid off our deadwood.

It's quite a feat to chase so many attacking options until the very end of the window that are not overly keen to join us in the first place. Perhaps contacting them/their agents to ask if they'd fancy a move to us before we dig ourselves in shit would be a better idea next time.

Almost as if we don't want to buy anybody else.

Wonder who the other targets are? Because Dybala and Fernandes look dead in the water.
I'm still hoping for Mandzukic. And I wonder if we'll try again for Longstaff.

It really is a joke. 1 day before the window closes we're still scrambling around for a midfielder. Literally what work was done all summer? Absolute joke.

Do we actually have a list of players we are looking at. It seems like the backline signings were but we are making up the rest as we go along. It's so aimless and reactionary, finding out hours before the window closes that players aren't interested in coming. This should have been found out in March. The board are a fecking disgrace, making it up as they mess up.

”wE nEeD tO bE rUtHLeSs”.

Ed Woodward I hope u step on a lego.

It's pretty obvious that this is the case. Face saving by throwing some names to the press. Doubt we had the funds to buy any of them. Especially after we threw 80 million at Leicester.

It definitely is throwing names out to appease fans, though I don't see why they think that works.

Trouble is 4 months into the season and the fans will be blaming Solskjaer and not the board, who will come out of this unscathed yet again.

Why have we come to the point where we are doing scattergun bullshit this late in the window for the likes of Dybala and Eriksen? Is this seriously the culmination of the months that the club has had to plan this window? Pathetic.

Fabregas all over again. And people say we learned and pulled the plug on Dybala.. I’m willing to bet he wanted feck all to do with us.

Simon is as good as we get to Ed Woodward himself confirming something, so this looks to be dead then. I am gutted.

Our transfer window is closed, it was a interesting one boys. Would have liked to do more business. A lot more business.

Extremely happy about the defensive options coming in plus Daniel James as a depth option. Very dissapointed in outgoings.

If we sell Pogba by some knee jerk reaction now I will not stop moaning about it to my girlfriend until January.

It's a shambles and no amount of briefing changes that. No doubt there will some attempt at panic buying before the deadline...just as in previous seasons.

Same excuses every summer
We are basically Arsenal at this point
We know every summer this is an issue so we should just accept a low fee to get and move the feck on. Why did we also give Rojo a new fecking deal

Nope fans will go for Woodward and the board now.

Why are people complaining? We have a great defence now, we have Pogba, Ole want to bet on McT and hope he can step up, we have a joker in James and we have some youngsters that have looked really sharp.
Yes, would be great with a midfielder but overall, 3 really good signs but still some are unhappy??

Don’t think we were really chasing Dybala per se. He was offered to us by Juve as a part of the Lukaku deal. And we decided not to pursue him after having talks with his agent.

Can’t think of any other attacking options we’ve been chasing over the last couple of weeks barring Eriksen.

Haggling over Maguire only to pay the full price for him anyway. Ed Woodward: Expert Negotiator.

Stone being polite there. It's not that Eriksen doesn't fancy a move to United now but that we think he might prefer a move to Spain.

We had months to prepare and now we’re scrambling to bring in a midfielder/attacker. What a joke.

It's incredible Delaney hasn't been blacklisted on here yet.

But it does work. You see enough posters on here all up in arms because this is the new United way. We are no longer signing names that don't want to join us. yayyy. But you now what's even worse than signing them? Chasing them all summer long and then acting like we were the ones turning them down, whilst not getting in anyone else and leaving huge gaping holes in our squad.
