That's a good point. Can't remember either. I think Fellaini was a really likable guy in the team, it was only the fans that hated the poor guy.
If nobody in the squad posted any kind of farewell to Lukaku i think that says a hell of a lot of how popular he was at the Club.

He’s setting himself up for a major fall.

He better fecking win the Golden Boot in Italy now or else he’s going to look a bit of a mug.

I wish him well, it was obvious Jose tried to set us up to play to his limited strengths, and we now need to go with a different tactical approach;one that requires more mobile and skilful forwards. Lukaku isn’t a Drogba

Na Rom, not a scapegoat. Just clearly didn’t put the same effort in during year 2 as you did year 1. He gave up so rightfully we moved him on.

I agree that we blamed him for not being good enough but most fans blame glazers / woodword not alexis / Pogba / Lukaku for being shit.

It’s the recruitment and not having a DoF that I have an issue with. No club like Lyon or Dortmund would give one manager a shed load of money to build a squad one way and then sack him and hire someone with a totally different plan.

Not much wrong with that interview apart from him being a bit thin skinned. He wasn't protected by the manager or the club but that's because they didn't want him so it's right we parted ways.

There probably isn't too many players in our squad that do feel particularly wanted by our fans. I'd wager quite a few feel the same in regards to their national teams too.

I don't like him as a player but he's telling the truth about feeling like he wasn't protected.
People need to take this seriously. The shit on Pogba is unacceptable and many here will regret the day he walks away.

Romelu Lukaku claims he was among three players who were made scapegoats of as a result of Manchester United's poor form last season.

The Belgian forward, who left United to join Inter Milan earlier this month, suggested Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez also received an unwarranted amount of criticism as the Reds finished the Premier League campaign in sixth position.

"They have to find somebody," Lukaku told the LightHarted Podcast, which appears to have been recorded before his move to Inter was finalised. "It is Pogba, it is me or it is Alexis. It's the three of us all the time. For me, I just see it in many ways."

The 26-year-old added that he disagrees with the notion that he didn't fit in with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's high-intensity system.

"A lot of people don't think I should be part of that system," Lukaku added. "That's my feeling from the conversations that I have, I just know.

"For me, the thing that makes me laugh a lot is... how the hell is s*** going bad in my team, but when I play in my national team, it's good? And I'm happy.

"I didn't play the last six weeks of the league, like the last three weeks or something before the end of the season and then I had another three weeks off before I had to play for the national team, and then we go and play with the Belgium team and... rollin' and I was there.

"And nobody there complains because I think the perception in my country is changing slightly. A lot of people were saying a lot of stuff. For me it took years for a lot of people to change their perception. Man Utd might not get that time. It's s***** that it happens like that.

"When I go and play for my country, we play the style of play that we want to play probably with Man United and I do well over there.

"So is it me? Four goals in the World Cup, three weeks ago I scored three goals in two games, and before that we played Switzerland and Iceland in September and I scored four goals in two games. I've scored 48 goals for my country.

"OK we all know that international soccer is different than club football but the playing style we play in the national team is the one we want to play at Man United.

"So is it me? Or do we need to have a conversation from man to man and tell each other the rules?"

Lukaku added that he didn't feel like he was protected by United towards the end of his time at the club.

"I think a lot of stuff has been said, where I didn't feel protected," Lukaku added. "A lot of rumours, 'Rom is going to go there, they don't want Rom' and nobody came out and shot it down."

I got three penalty points for wishing injury on him, and you know what, I have zero regrets. What a colossal prick.

For most of our squad that have been here longer than 2 months what do they expect? Statues? Only De Gea, Romero and Rashford get a pass from me.

This guy was one of José's leaders with the likes of Pogba and Martial being labelled as trouble makers.

The second one from eyepopper , that’s how I used to play when pissed on Thursday night five a sides at 10pm

Also to note it was the 83rd minute when Lukaku collapsed there, you can’t run for 90 minutes carrying the weight of 100kg+ at that level. Was always amazed we allowed it.

Thanks for this.

I have to admit I couldn’t have been more wrong about this guy & was an idiot to be so apologetic for his performances.

Just seeing the willingness from Martial & Rashford in 2 games makes breaking almost even on this guy a blessing.

Not saying it's wrong necessarily just the truth of the situation. For me i don't see much issue with criticism but hate the new trend of childish mocking of our own players. It's not a good look.

Maybe those 3 are under the most scrutiny because they’re the most expensive and highest paid and are lads who have alot more experience than the likes of Rashford and Martial and tbh most of the time the 3 of them deserved the criticism. Losing a lot of respect for Rom since he left.

Maybe not but that’s the world we live in now, guess they will have to make do with their multi million pound bank accounts, mansions, Ferrari’s and model wags.

When we were deciding between Morata and him I knew whoever we chose we'd get an overpriced mediocre striker but I liked Lukaku better. He was decent for Everton and showed in his first season with us that he can be very useful.
But the way he ballooned was just stupid and irresponsible. I don't care if it's not fat but muscle. Whatever it is, it made him a worse player, one that don't work as hard as he should without the ball and one that can't control simple balls.

It's mostly his fault that he failed here.
I don't think he failed, he was pretty much exactly what many people thought he was, a flat track bully with obvious technical limitations, don't think he was capable of much more. Utd failed, in buying a flawed player in the first place.

This is funny. I know footballers often live in a bubble, but this guy takes it to another level.

Also, making it painfully obvious why Ole wanted to get rid right away..

What a nothing footballer... Quite sad that we are going through a prolonged lull and one of the by-products is having to see mid table dross spend time at our club. We need to sort ourselves out..

Thick.

Is it me? Yes, yes it is you. Scoring plenty in humdrum international friendlies and scoring zero against top six sides in the Premier League.

Self confessed ‘student of the game’ don’t you know! Bell end never had the mentality to be at an elite level club.

For all the faults ol’ Chinless has...virtually getting our money back for this lumbering, grown ass sack of shit was a fantastic bit of business.

Thank Christ I never have to see one of his thumbs up to a teammate as he fails to chase yet another ball over the top. Worst stepovers in World football. Can’t trap a ball. Absolute wet-wipe too. Cheeky twat.

Pathetic...never good enough for United. Even in our current state... The worst first choice United striker i have ever seen. Still can't believe we got our money back for him. He can keep making excuses for why he failed at United..but the truth is that he is a poor footballer and we did well to get rid of him.

I remember feeling underwhelmed when he was announced. Hoped that i would be proven wrong..but it wasn't to be. Another poor buy from Mourinho.

Strikes me as incredibly thin-skinned. I backed him longer than most anyone, but he simply hasn't got the mentality to play at the absolute top level. Overly worried about what fans are saying about him and can't keep his head down and stay in shape. You can't succeed at a club like United with that mindset.

Did Utd protect him ? Probably not

Is it the clubs fault he can’t control a football ? No

Is it the clubs fault he decided to bulk up for the World Cup ? No

Is it the clubs fault he needs 3 chances before he scores the easy in? No

You’re not good enough , you didn’t fit in to what Ole wants to change so no more sour grapes please.

Look, I didn’t like him much as a footballer but he has a point and he feels aggrieved. He wants the last word and defend himself from the one sided point of view along united fans (partly reflected on here).

People on here are saying grow up but most of all you guys want to have the last word too in little petty fights and arguments you have on this forum, don’t lie so get off your high horses. He has to deal with this on a whole other level than getting multi-quoted sentence by sentence by one or two otaku online warriors on redcafe and feels the need to say something.

The squad hasn't been built properly or improved enough for 6+ years now. Managers fault, players just not good enough but as many of us have already pointed out, the common factor in all of this is Woodward and his lack of football structure and institutional knowledge that regressed the club in combination of other clubs improving or just being sustainable.

As for Lukaku, he can score goals and that's it...with the good left foot cross from time to time. But this is the pressure, the responsibility and accountability that Ole has talked about since day one. The criticism and expectations of a player who pulls that United shirt is second to none. How you wear that burden is just as important as how you play. Lukaku couldn't make the team around him better as a United #9. He has to be catered to and it showed.

I think Pogba is the one of the three who was actually scapegoated.

Alexis has been a disgrace and Lukaku was good at times but when he was out of form was horrific to watch.
