A lot of managers look at other teams and coaches for inspiration.

Since teams started employing DLP or old fashioned DMCs who could dictate from deep, it's been fashionable for a few years to have a hard working link man to try and occupy that player players nullify him. A player who can press, offer a transition threat, and knit play; basically a quicker, less able David Silva type. These are so rare (great tens) but fit, high stamina, hard working forwards with poor finishing and passing are common. Ten a penny. If they could finish they'd be strikers, if they could pass they'd be tens.

Alas your academy will produce more of these types of players than of the tens with actual ability so you must find a use for them. This position or function of a team is more to do with the commonplace nature of stamina first, football second players.

I like when he receives the ball and plays a back pass.

guilty as charged. I was just trying to be positive for once. :(
I can respect this.

A shame hes not performing, it would only be good for us all if he was.

We need to start seeing Gomes in his place I feel.

That's a clear improvement because today he couldn't receive/control single ball to his feet.
You didn't see him play 15 back passes today? Like he does every game? The only "good" thing he does is when he runs with the ball in a straight line. Then nothing happens though.

If I win the euro lotto I will put a £40 mill bid in for the useless tosser and have him cleaning my toilets, it's all he's good for.

I really really hope we stop starting this clown, slowly fading him to the bench. Just 5 or so final minutes in already won matches, then suddenly he stops showing up in the bench squad, only cup matches against championship teams, then finally we sell him to middlesbrough next summer

Another manager that might be sacked, just using Lingard as starter.

This might be the dumbest thread in the history of the Caf. Lingard and excellence are mutually exclusive concepts.

I only saw him misplacing first touches, it was like watching Rooney during one of his worst hangovers in months.

Lingard is the one who can get OGS sacked.
Why persists with this average players?
Give Gomes his chance. Else he'll surely leave.

He’d start next week. Martial is injured and Sanchez is off.

Doesn’t score goals, and no assists. He’s supposed to be a number ten right?

It’s absolutely mind boggling how he keeps getting games. What do people see in him?

If this was 10 or 15 years ago it would be a Johnathan Greening or Luke Chadwick situation. He would get a handful of games and the manager would release he’s not good enough and move him on.

The fact that he plays week in week out shows how far we have fallen.

Useless today. Maybe works in a counter attacking situation but not sitting defences.

It's amazing these guys with made-up usernames on an internet forum think they know better than world class football managers - all of whom have had Lingard as an option PLAY HIM.

Some of you need to admit that it's not that Jesse is rubbish. It's that you don't get it You only judge a player on the 2% of the time they have the ball at their feet and are blind to the fact that the other 98% exists.

I'm not the biggest Jesse fan. He annoys me. I think his attitude was part of the problem under Mourinho... but let's get things straight. You do NOT know football better than the managers listed above. End of debate.

I can’t stand the sight of him at our club. He’s just so astoundingly bad and yet people find a way to defend him because he runs a lot. Awful player.

Thank god we’ve got this absolute goal magnet playing centrally now, he was practically invisible out wide...
