Cry over the state of our club?
Is that a statement or a question?

Personally I see nothing worth crying about nor do I see the merit in the over the top hysteria I read on here every day

Looks like we're letting Smalling go on loan for 3 million to Roma... I don't see the sense in this. Smalling is a good backup.

You don't see the sense? I think it's because we have 97 centrebacks.

Yes... how about letting Rojo go? Or even the forever crocked Jones. Smalling is experienced and should be backup. In no way he starts, but he's back up to Tuanzebe. Our players are dropping like flies with all the muscle injuries. All that extra pressing will cause more too.

We don't decide what interest clubs have in our players. We can't force them to bid for our players.

Yes, I would prefer Jones and Rojo to go first but the Glazers are loving the money and that is what matters...to them.

I would much rather have let Rojo or Jones go, as at least Smalling is not injured all the time.

I don't understand - can you explain how this links to the Glazers loving money?

Alex Kral and Arne Maier are just 2 young up and coming Defensive midfielders we should be looking at now for January.

If Ole wants top Young players, then Kral at 21 (Sparta Prague and already a full International.) is a great passer of the ball and tackles well.
Arne Maier at 19 is already compared to Tony Kroos and can control a game with his passing from DM.

I would personally like Partey, but at 26 and hard to get in January maybe these 2 should be looked at.

£3m loan fee?

Smalling's our best dead wood back up, if only because he's actually fit most of the time
That's not a lot of money, seriously reaching. We have a lot of centre backs, and Ole clearly sees Jones as a better defender and Tuanzebe as a better back-up.

Have you even watched him? He's been rubbish for PSV for months on end and he's not a creative player at all. We have goalscorers who can play on the wing in Rashford and Martial. We lack playmakers like Sancho.
Difference is Sancho costs well over £100m. Lozano doesn’t. £40m is hardly breaking the bank these days. We are very short all over the pitch now. We can’t expect world class signings every time but we can certainly find better than what we have.

So because we failed to sign our main target for a position we should spend a significant amount of money on a far inferior player simply because he can play in that position, despite having squad members and youth products who can play in that position until our main target is gettable?

I guess Ed isn't that bad if this is the alternative.

Hopefully our "main target" actually wants to join us then.

Even if he doesn't, it's not a reason to spend a large amount of money on a stop gap measure that may be marginally better than what we currently have, rather than trusting youth products with the potential to be far better.

It's all ifs and buts to be fair.

I would take Lozano over anyone we have right now 100% but that's irrelevant now anyway. Lets hope we actually see Chong, Gomes or Greenwood given a chance then and not Mata and Lingard on the right who both epitomise mediocrity in that positon.

I don't think Sancho will have a move to us in his mind at all. The kid is doing wonders and I think a much better team capable of competing for top honours will snap him up.

I am staggered by the arrogance of some of our fans that they just presume next summer Sancho will be here. If we don't get CL he definitely won't and as you say even better clubs will be looking at him. To get him here Ole will to be overwhelmingly persuasive.

This. Smalling is our only fit CB that commands some interest due to being relatively consistent, relatively fit and relatively good. Nobody wants Jones, unfortunately, which is a damning indication - why he's even still here after almost 10yrs.

Neither are British, therefore they don't fit 'the United way'.

There are at least three worse centre halves than him at the club but he doesn’t fit the style Solskjaer wants to play and you have to start somewhere, I guess. He might have been (one of) the best of a bad lot in recent years but he won’t get us where we want to go, both in terms of quality and playing style.

My bigger concern would be that loans like his and Sanchez’s will give the club plenty of leeway to not go into the market in Jan as they’ll likely be back on the payroll next summer. I feel that we’re basically absorbing the losses we’ll suffer from not qualifying for the CL this season.

Never heard of the 2 particular midfielders, will keep an eye out for them. Thanks.

I think we could have a hard chance of getting Sancho next summer even if he wanted to come. If he has another good season at Dortmund which I expect he will, there is a good chance he could shine at Euros, meaning his price would be astronomical; I'm guessing about £150m. Which would be a fair chunk or maybe even all our budget.

I see they have already went out and said winter transfers will be difficult (cant seem to find the link/tweet right now) because clubs want to hold on to players and therefore it gets very expensive.

But how difficult is it really? Any big winter signings happen the last years when contract wasnt expired?

Hopefully moving Smalling and Sanchez off our wage bill means we sign someone in January, hopefully a midfielder or two. As many have said, don't understand why Smalling was the one who was shipped of when the likes of Rojo, Jones and Bailly are still in the squad.

Letting Smalling leave ahead of the rest of the slop would be so typically moronic of this club.
Mate they are all shit. If there are no takers for Rojo and Jones yet, then we can't wait forever.

Smalling wasn't good enough, to think he last 10 seasons at the club is mind boggling.

I'd still rather have him as back up than the rest, we'd be weakening ourselves again foolishly.

It is harder to sign players in the winter due to high fees and teams not wanting to get rid of players mid-season but this a convenience for Woody as I don't think he wants to sign anyone anyway. If he thinks there is no value in the summer window I can see him being very unimpressed with the value in the winter window.

Bailly's injured, no-one wants to pay what we want for Rojo and his wages and Ole seems to like Jones
