Why are we dropping the standards for Ole?

Had this been the run of form for anyone non-United related surely would have been sacked.

Is it really something we can afford to persist with?

It still blows my mind that people who consider themselves knowledgeable fans are just now wrapping their heads around the idea that the product we currently have on the pitch is in phase 1 (get rid of dead wood/cultural shift) of a multi transfer period/multi season rebuild and never meant to compete in its current form. I've never seen so many deluded fans disconnected from the reality of the shape or direction of this club.

It was ok to do it when we finished 2nd though?
Wow, the guy who was in charge for 3 summer windows, built this squad was held responsible. What a cruel world.

100% agree- People genuinely don't understand how long it takes to rebuild. Took Guardiola and Klopp a few seasons to get the ideal squad to compete but Ole has a few games and people want him out already-Insane!

I was very, very excited during that initial run under Ole, obviously. I'm not sure what your point is, because it completely misses mine.
We have manager who has worst results streak and also manager who has broken many positive records. We shouldn't ignore that and we have played just 4 games this season.

In two summers the manager won 2 trophies, reached another final and accumulated 81 points to finish 2nd. Still people decided that he was not getting enough of the squad. Which is now proven to be bollocks.

The squad inherited from Van Gaal is much weaker than the one inherited from Mourinho.

That side was quite expensive, and definitely not the same side as right now.
It’s really not that different to the team that finished 2nd. If anything, a better RB and CB have been added at the cost of £130 million.

And the other argument is, he took over the side the was better than Liverpool, close to city but finished with team that was few levels below Liverpool and City. He spend as much as Klopp did but ended up with worse squad/team, and a team which needed so many signings even going by Jose's words.

To compete for the title. Most of the narrative here is top 6 or something...

It was only close to City in terms of the league table before Pep and Jose arrived. City’s season died when they knew Pellegrini was leaving. City’s squad was better and their recent history before that in terms of finishes and trophies show that. When they had Aguero and de Bruyne we had to go out and buy Pogba and Lukaku. City were ahead in terms of a squad and continued to spend. We finished above Liverpool and then did not back the manager.

Regardless, people cannot say we should not get 4th after being so critical of the last manager even after winning two trophies and then finishing 2nd.

That's a reasonable conclusion if one completely ignores the reasons I outlined in my post, like you just did.

I think your response says a lot more about your biases than mine.
He's like a parody tbh. Literally Jose's biggest fan and he never applies any context to anything regarding Mourinho. I mean, his posts are just hilarious and can't be taken seriously.

And without those signings, he was competing with Bournemouth.
Without those he finished 2nd last season. As soon as he began competing with Bournemouth he lost his job. We're currently competing with Sheffield United if we go by the same criteria and we're 8th.

City were close to ManUtd even in 2014-15 season, we were better than Liverpool in both Van Gaal's seasons.

It's amazing how Jose fans completely ignore why ManUtd fans wanted Jose out, it was not results alone. If it was the case then people would have celebrated 2nd position. It was his attitude (which was rotten to the core), his playing style, him bitching about everything and anything in the media.

After half a season we were competing with Bournemouth with GD of 0. Nice try though comparing after 4 games. The manager you want is also competing with Sheffield United btw.

Wonder why the team from 2nd fell to that low level in just 3-4 months.

With the squad we had you cannot play that much better football and still get results the fans would demand. Man United fans wanted Jose out because they thought he wasn't getting enough of the the squad. They were wrong.

Who honestly still gives a shit about Mourinho? he's gone let it go

His failure is not relevant to Ole's management.

And who built that squad? So he signed average players with shit preparation, and then moan we can't play better football?

That's why he got shit, for building that shit squad that can't play good football.

We've only played 4 games with the better RB and CB so no real conclusion can be made of that sample size yet. In that case, it would be daft to be complaining about 4 games.

And if you're complaining about the bad run, then yeah we didn't have those players. So either way it is different.

When talking about standards it does matter though. How can people say its ok if we don't finish top 4 after complaining for 3 years?

Who gives a shit? Maybe you should read different thread then. This is about why standards are dropped, so every manager post SAF is relevant for this thread.

Ok, I’m just saying he should be finishing top 4 then. People are already gearing up excuses for him to finish below that. That is what OP is talking about when he says dropping standards.

I agree that people are dropping standards in that sense, but it's due to the current circumstances. I don't think it's due to Ole himself, as a lot of people do believe in him as a manager.

Finished 2nd, beat every side in the league, played well in big games and a very good home record. Then the backing stopped after that season. He got shit because people thought he should be doing even better than that.

As I said, your quote was in relation to mounting a title bid. When you finish 2nd naturally your goal is 1st, not 6th.

He didn't get them, his relationship with the board went south and naturally bad results followed. It's not the squad the main reason we were competing with Bournemouth and then he lost his job.

I'm not sure who is the manager I want, probably Poch, but he's not my first choice. Still I'll of course take him ahead of Ole.

Who was the last manager who failed to win 13 in 16 consecutive games that kept his job?

So why did that team fell so low? He wasn't backed, so title wasn't realistic ambition, but why did the team fell from 2nd to 6th or whatever position we were in, competing with lower teams and so far from 4th that we were closer to 15th place after half a season.

Because his relationship with the boar soured. The harmony in the dressing room went missing. The atmosphere became poisonous and the results followed the same trait.

It's not like Jose doesn't have a past history of falling out with the board and managing a string of bad results before getting a fat paycheck or you believe it was the squad and tactics as main reason?

The relationship was broken after that summer and there was a bad atmosphere. Jose knew there was no chance of catching City. At that point Jose had to go but lets not act like the board don't have a big part to play in that.

I don't know but I know manager who still retained his job by winning just 1 league game in 2 months or 2 league games in 3 months.

Jose in 2016-17 just 2 league games out of 11. Obviously playing against shit teams in Europe league helped his overall record but the record in league so as shit but still he didn't lose his job.

In 2015-16, Van Gaal won just 3 league games out of 13 and still retained his job.

Of course. It's no surprise that Jose for all his virtues in terms of winning mentality can be a right cnut when things aren't going his way. And it was pretty visible that things were not going his way even before the season kicked off.

It's not like he was "found out" either, considering his resume. He knew he had zero chance of staying with the pack if we don't spend money. Granted he didn't make very good use of them but it's not like Pool and City weren't spending at the time either and in the case of City they had a much superior squad to begin with.

So he fell out with board, players and then had rotten attitude towards everyone, and you guys are surprised why ManUtd fans wanted him gone even when we finished 2nd.

That happened in the summer that followed the season we finished 2nd. People wanted him out even before that.

They were wrong about that, but luckily that wasn't the only reason and we were still right to fire him

So the CL campaign is defaulted? Care to show how Ole's last 16 games stack up against Poch last 16 games in all competitive competitions?

Those shit teams in Europe league helped us to win CL qualification.

In 15/16 it was the year LvG was sacked. He retained his job up until the end of the season, where he won the FA cup and still got the boot.

What does that got to do with whether the squad Ole inherited is a genuine top 4 contender?

Jose is Jose, if you didn't know his character you really haven't followed football much in the last two decades. Jose was never here to build a dynasty. He would get us competitive until we keep spending and this is what he did.

He will fell out with the board at around the 3rd / 4th year and get a new job - that's literally his whole career.

Jose and Van Gaal were not sacked when they had those poor runs. Jose won Europa league some 4 months after the poor run, Van Gaal was sacked when we didnt finish in top 4, not when they had shit run of games.

So there is your answer.

Yes, I don't think anyone will deny that Jose can become confrontational with a board that is pissing about. At the end of the day, he did not come to United to NOT compete with City. He wasn’t being backed but would still have been criticised for not being close to City. If there was already criticism for the team when it finished with 81 points then it was only going to get worse.

Not sure if it was me who don't know Jose or you when you guys celebrate 2nd with Jose in charge.

The squad Jose built, even he couldn't compete for top 4. Those results were not sustainable because of his shit methods, as predicted by different models.

Anyways Ole should get top 4, or he should be gone, unless there is genuine progress.
