a few months ago Ole was happy with the squad, even though it was blatantly obvious we were lacking up front.

Why would getting Poch get Kane?
Kane loves Tottenham, not Poch!
I did not say we would get him. I said it is the only way we get Kane.

The reasons:

1. Kane likes Poch and a manager he has worked under
2. A manager he has scored goals under
3. Probably knows Poch's ambitions
4. Kane would leave if Spurs do not challenge for trophies.

Other than that, we don't have any chance of signing Kane. We are worse than Spurs.

Any of the following could be signed in January and will prove value for money:

1: Victor Osimhen (speed, finishing - although just signed for Lille in summer)
2. Donyell Malen (finishing, dribbling)
3. Vangelis Pavlidis (hold up play, plan B)
4. Duván Zapata (experience, strength, finishing)
5. Niclas Füllkrug (bench option, hold up play, shooting from range)

It's bizarre we couldn't find ONE striker option who would have improved us this season. There's lots with potential and ability beyond the major teams and common names.
Pulling names out of the air, who have never played over here is obviously the right answer.

Whoever I bet on
Zapata would be a perfect fit IMO.

Belotti I could see going both ways but overall I feel he is not inferior to Zapata and is an upgrade on everything United have at the moment.

Haland I would like most of all. I follow Austrian football closely and the kid is something else. Amazing how much he improved in the last six months or so.

Having said that, the way United have been doing business for post LVG is such that I am all but certain that neither of these men is under consideration.

My guess is that they will go all in for Sancho and/or Maddison next summer.

Defoe could do a job until the end of the season. Proven PL player.

Moussa dembele should fit in very well. The price won't be exorbitant and he's creative as well as a goalscoring center forward.

I wouldn’t mind an older experienced goal scorer till Mason develops and him and martial can compete for the striker role, or maybe even play two strikers with martial little bit behind Greenwood.

Why hasn't he left them already, if this was truly the case?

Do you want me to spell everything out for you? but I will do so anyway seing as you were happy with my earlier answers

1. Spurs CHALLENGED for Champions League last year
2. They moved to a new stadium and as a captain he probably wanted to lead them out there given his love for the club
3. Spurs looked like challengers last season until Feb
4. This season money has been invested in the playing squad.
5. He is 26 now so he is getting to his prime age
6. He probably believed under Poch and the current Spurs team they could challenge this year.

Timo Werner

I know he was meant to go to Bayern this summer... but he hasn't, and we should have been all over that like a rash.

7 goals in 7 games so far this season.
Supposedly there were offers from clubs outside of Germany this summer and he said he didn’t want to go. He wanted to stay in Germany so that sounds like to me he is going to Bayern.

Agree he probably would have been good for the way Ole looks like he wants to play but honestly outside of him I don’t see a striker that is really all that impressive that I think could come in here, hit the ground running and be a 20 prem goal a season man.

Honestly think we’ll go for Sancho and sort Midfield over the next few transfer windows and unless Martial, Greenwood and Rashford are really struggiling then maybe a striker.

Ole has spoken of the need for a striker to lead the line, but refuses to compromise on anyone not deemed as "the right" type of player for this club.

Noting the availability in the market right now, how it likely wouldn't change much between now and the summer, does anyone know of any good candidates?

I know Dembele is linked from Lyon. Lots of posts here are less than impressed with that link. But who is out there really? Does Ole even have a short list? Or do we need to hope Rashford/Martial play a blinder next season too :nervous:
Ole knew Lukaku was leaving from Dec. Yet the two forwards we were seriously linked with over the summer were Dybala and Mandzukic. Both of whom came about by chance and were us reacting to another clubs situation. That seriously shows a manager who has no plan, and probably one who is a bit overwhelmed by it all.

Yes Maguire, AWB, and James have been good signings. But the first two were also obvious signings, ask any fan which realistic RB and CB to sign from the EPL the vast majority would have named those two.

We need a striker who can be creative, and Kane is not that striker. We need someone closer to Suarez.

Striker doesn't matter if our midfield couldn't supply a fat kid with chocolate. In saying that. The only possible ones are Dembele, Manzukic, Zlatan or Cavani if PSG are will to let him go. Werner would cost a lot

Rashford with Lindgard as back up will do. That's 10-12 goals a season right there.

Odsonne Edouard from Celtic. A lot of people say he's better than Dembele when he was at Celtic. He's the kind of guy you could get for 10 to 15 million in January. Knowing the way United work we will not look at him then pay 50 odd million for him in a couple seasons time from some French team.

Why do people respond like this every time someone tries to create a well-researched post about player options? I understand it's not football manager. But it's also important to consider options beyond the usual Mandzukic and Dembele-style signings. I'm not saying any of these guys are an immediate long-term solution, but they'd be a valued addition to the squad, which we desperately need given our lack of spending on midfield and attack. My point was that United can improve significantly with just a little investment.

He may, I dont think him staying at Spurs is unconditional. But if he does leave, he is not coming here. An instant upgrade over Benzema at RM, they would throw money at him like confetti, and have a better chance of winning trophies.

If we can't get our first choice (presumably younger) options, Edinson Cavani on a 2-3 year deal would be mint, IMO — maybe even in January if Paris Saint-Germain are willing to sell him for €20 million (contract expires in the summer so they might bite). Will turn 33 in the new year so he won't block the path of heir apparent Greenwood, a physical presence up top with good hold-up play, and a hard worker/presser with exceptional movement in or around the box. Alternate him with the young lads because he's not at prime fitness level any more and can't be counted upon as a regular starter, and let them learn from one of the best strikers of the decade. A big chunk of United supporters pooh-poohed the Ibrahimović deal but it actually quite decent, and Cavani could have a similar effect (he's by no means as charismatic as Zlatan but would still be a welcome addition to a team and attack that is bereft of high-caliber experience or leadership ability).

Would be uncharacteristic of United to sign him, though — we aren't known for being short-term wheeler dealers in the mercato. On a side note, João Moutinho's contract expires in the summer as well, and he, too, would be a shrewd short-term acquisition if we can't get our priority players (or are skint or choose to spend the bulk of our budget on other areas).
Both are good suggestions but given their age and how much the club has bandied about building a ‘young side’ I can’t see it happening.

Defoe could do a job until the end of the season. Proven PL player.
36 yo Jermain Defoe who joined Bournemouth in summer of 2017 and after playing just 8 games was loaned to Rangers?

Let's go crazy and break the world transfer record for Kane.

We used to do that in the past, let's do it again.

If we are buying in Jan then our options are limited. Mandzukic on an 18 month contract would be a decent option. Can play up top and from the left, and would probably be ok with rotation too. I would be surprised if we went in big for someone in Jan.

If you've researched them, fair play, but as is the case most of the times with posts like yours, with the names you mentioned, they are researched through FM.

Anyone capable of chipping in with at least 10-15 goals. Mandzukic is the one being talked about and may not be the worst option in the world if we can get him on the cheap in January.

Cavani is out of contract in the summer and Werner has a €30m release clause too. There are options out there.

Mandzukic and Haland.
+ 1

Ole knows Haaland. His agent are Mino Raijola though

Mandzukic is a good alternative in the box for the rest of the season to change games

(Dybala were not bought because of his high salary demands)

(Madison is a no brainer, but he will be expensive to buy out in January - doubt Leicester will sell him mid-season)

(Daniel Levy would not sell Kane to Man United. Daniel Levy would prefer not dealing with United at all)

Would love to get Sancho and even his club is publicly saying they expect he will move on in the future. The problem is - will he want to come to the Manchester United of now? I think he`d fit in and he would be a huge boost in confidence as well as skill but I get the feeling he isn`t just about money, he`d want to be playing in the Champions League season in, season out.
