Really wish this thread was reset and anyone saying sack are forced to give a realistic replacement. Far too many like their voice to be heard without giving it an ounce of thought beforehand
Not up to the fans to find a replacement.

There’s a manager out there capable of creating a successful Manchester United. United should be finding that man.

Barring an incredible turnaround, Olé is not that man. He’s had nearly a year and I still see no progress, no direction and no style of play. Our form under him since he was made permanent is literally relegation form.

Nobody questions OGS’ talent in finding transfer targets. Nobody. Everyone agrees that all three players he signed are a success already.

The problem is his managerial ability (or, better to say, total lack thereof). He is good at finding transfer targets, but bad at managing a football club.
Good at finding transfer targets would be players like Vidic and Evra. Players largely unknown. AWB and Maquire are players that 90% of PL clubs would sign if they had the money. The reason we got them was because we have more money than most. Hardly inspiring. If Giggs hadn't of mentioned James to the club he'd now be a Leeds player and costing £15m I'm sure Eds eyes lite up. Don't get me wrong. He's a good player but can hardly be put down to Ole having magic transfer skills.

We could talk about the season being derailed by the lack of reinforcements being brought in. Ole signed off on it (even though we really know who's to blame) so that's down to him. He's just Eds fall guy.

Of course. He was boring too. The point is that Ole was supposed to be different from Mourinho in his football. We've had 6 seasons of boring football, and I would argue it was a little boring under Fergie too. Difference is we won under Fergie. We're at a point where we wanted attacking football, and now many fans have ignored that.
Name a manager that would get this group playing attacking football and not losing games 3-1 in the process?

There is a reason that we revert to this tumescent play, we either don't know how to play attacking football or are covering for our deficiencies.

For all of you who want him sacked now, please say who would replace him. And please be realistic, not going with Poch leaving Spurs to come to us.
I'm all ears.

Anybody. I'd take Allardyce. What he did in the transfer window is an utter disgrace and can never be forgiven.

I wouldn't even consider sacking him. You have to think about what he's working with. He needs to be given time. The problems at the club are deep rooted. It's not Ole's fault the squad has been mismanaged for the best part of a decade.

The 3 signings Ole has made (Wan-Bissaka, James and Maguire) all look good signings. If he's given time to mould a squad of players in the same vein we'll be far better placed.

How will a new manager solve any of the problems we have? They will still be working with dross. He's had to work around injuries to key players too - what on Earth are our medical team up to as this always seems to be the case.

He's doing the right thing. It's obvious we couldn't get any more of the right players in during the summer so he's gone with what he's got. It's not good enough but it's better than making the wrong signings - as we've made lots of them recently.

He's being patient and waiting to add the right players when possible. We should be patient too.

I think what's happened here is pre-season most people agreed we are in for a tough season, it's going to be hard and we're not in a position to challenge - now that is teh case and it's happening people are freaking out.

Isn't this what we all expected? I certainly did.

No point sacking Ole now.
Good post and I agree, he shouldn't be sacked now ... but that shouldn't mean he gets a free ride indefinitely. If the team keeps this level f performance up until December then his position will become untenable. Yes, he's made good signings and if it was up to me I'd back him in the January window and make a call at the end of the season.

I'm just not convinced he's a good enough manager / coach. Yes, he may be able to identify the 'right' players to bring in but what can he get out of them?

I can't help but compare the two very different directions of Ole and Brendan Rogers. Both managers came in mid-season at around the same time (ish) but look at the difference in impact both managers have had during their time. Sorry, one is clearly a much better manager.

I love Ole, but we can't and shouldn't give him a free ride. I hate Utd becoming like Chelsea in terms of hiring and firing managers and I am all for being patient (I didn't actually want LVG to go when he did) but I can only feel patient if I feel the club is improving.

I repeat, Brendan Rogers is doing a much better job than Ole.

I'm afraid that's too simplistic. What if the defensive organisation of the team (which isn't that great tbh, we haven't played the best teams in the league, especially away from home)) is at the expense of the attack and the deficiencies in attack are not only due to individuals but the overall set-up of the team? I think the latter is more likely than missing 1-2 quality players in attack.

The idea to replace Lukaku and Sanchez with kids was madness in the first place. Is there a serious team out there that relies only on forwards aged 18-23?
If we had a fit Martial plus good players at the #10 and right wing position and were still struggling then I would agree there were more fundamental things wrong with the team. But that's not what I see each game. I see us defending reasonably, winning (or at least not losing) the midfield battle and then our attackers simply not being good enough.

Your second point is sort of what I'm saying. I'm very much in favour of United bringing through their own young players and I give Solskjaer a lot of credit for doing so. But we blatantly needed another proven attacker in the summer. A top quality right winger should have been at the top of the shopping list and instead we are starting Pereira. That's been Solskjaer's biggest mistake and I won't defend him from criticism there.

It's not about magic transfer skills, it's about adding the right players and not just throw money around. And so what if Giggs mentioned James, everybody in and around the club work together.

You realise such an appointment would only lead to said manager being sacked 12 months later themselves yeah?

Duff squad, desperately needing reinforcements. This situation isn't going to change for a while. Ole needs time. Not one or two games worth of time. One or two transfer windows worth. Results were always going to be a mixed bag this season given the personnel we have to choose from.

I would do what we should've done last season. Appoint a caretaker manager and stick to the plan of appointing a manager at the end of the season.

He is a legend as a player, but I think we should accept reality now.

Just imagine that he hadn't played for the club, or that some other manager was currently coaching the team. Would we accept this abysmal record? You could bet that they would have been sacked by now.

I would get it if we are showing some form of progress, but we absolutely haven't. In fact, since he became our manager, the performances have been consistently deteriorating.

What player would want to join a club that will most likely finish 8th or 10th this season? I can't think of a single team in the PL who we can confidently play and expect to beat right now.

No doubt that the situation we are in is well beyond the manager, but it's completely on Ole if we can't comfortably beat the likes of Rochdale at home. How our standards have fallen.

Yep most likely. But it would be no worse than it is now for those 12 months and we'd get more points.

I can't support for one minute a manager who gutted our squad in such an irresponsible fashion by pushing out established players to put pressure on youngsters which will absolutely hinder their development. Eds head should be on a platter for allowing it too.

Realistically though perhaps Nagelsmann, Allegri or even Gattuso short term.

Keep, no manager on earth could lose all those players have 3 replacements and 1 window and make much of a difference, not sure what a new manager would do differently.

He needs January and at least another summer for me, the problems at the club run much deeper than Ole (Ed/Yanks).

It is like putting Lewis Hamilton in a Skoda and kicking off at him when he doesn't win the F1 World Title.

Over the next 2 windows if he can get a striker, no 10, cm and rw then I think we will be looking different, if he is still failing then, then get him gone.

At the minute, not sure what else he can do.

A real case of the "grass is greener" syndrome going on here.

It's really puzzling because mostly everyone between here and the moon agreed before the season started that we had a lot of work to do, and we aren't going to compete for the title this season, but rather develop youngsters and give them a chance to bloom, while trying to get into the top4. We are going this route because we have had almost 7 years of spending sprees that have brought us nearly nothing. With GREAT managers at the helm no less. And I see people here wanting to bring in journeymen managers who have managed about 20 clubs in their careers.

We get rid of Lukaku who is the opposite of what we want. Lukaku has the turning ability of a cruiseship, and ball handling ability of a wall. The only problem we are currently facing is that our go-to striker in Marcus Rashford has managed to somehow lose all confidence over the course of 6 games, after being absolutely great in the first one. Alexis Sanchez scored what, 4 goals in his entire career? And now people suddenly feel he was to great solution after all? It'd be nice if we didnt forget history 30 seconds after it happened once in a while.

Last night, Scott McTominay stood alone at the 5 meter mark with open net, and he heads the ball over the goal. That is how close we came to winning the game last night. Same story with Marcus Rashford against Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton. Missed penalties, missed open nets. The game was always there for the taking. We've had 1 bad game all season, against West Ham, every other game we deserved the win but personal mistakes squandered everything.

Remember the game against Southampton? EIGHT shots on goal. 1-1. The problem we have is inherently with the end product. Our defense this season is great, absolutely phenomenal compared to last season. Lindelöf is about to lose his starting position to Tuanzebe once AWB and Shaw are both healthy.

We tried to buy Dybala, Eriksen, Sancho, Mandzukic and Longstaff during the transfer window. Jadon Sancho is a target next summer. Mandzukic might be a depth option in January, Dybala fell through due to his image rights, Eriksen wants to move to Spain, Longstaff was priced at £50 million.

Thing is, we signed 3 players who have all performed above and beyond except for maybe Maguire who I already expected to be very good. James is exceeding everyones expectations by far, and AWB is an absolute phenomenon as a defensive rightback.

We're not losing matches left and right are we? We've lost 2. Same as Tottenham and Chelsea. 3 draws. All of which we would have won, had the quality of the player product been better. That is on the players, not the manager. You do not need a manager to tell you how to put the ball in the net 5-10 meters away. These are adults, they know how to do that.

A rebuild is just that, a rebuild that reshapes the very identity and structure of the entire football team. It takes time, several transfer windows, you play a mix of veterans and young kids that will eventually grow into men. Mason Greenwood is already seeing a lot of gametime. He is 17 years old and playing like a man.

This is not the end product of this version of Manchester United, this is the very first stepping stone. Either you trust in the process, or you go on thinking that the grass is always greener, and act like fans of the opposing team every time we play a game until we are winning again and the team is suddenly worthy of your support.

Based on what? What possible credentials does Eddie Howe have? To me someone like Eddie Howe is another short term punt
He took Bournemouth from league one to the PL in three seasons and made them a mid/upper table team whilst playing some of the best football in the league. It's a hell of a lot more than Ole has ever done.

He's a bit of a punt but he's quite clearly a much better manager than Ole, and would likely jump at the chance to come here if it was presented to him.

Pushed established players? Both wanted to leave. And I'm sure he would have liked more transfers. It's not that he said Ed look I'll gut the squad and I don't need anyone. Ed is guilty for again not delivering in the transfer window.

Evra a Champions League finalist before he joined Manchester United and included French Ligue team of the year. Am sure he was difficult to spot.

It's like saying De Ligt was unknown player before Juventus signed him.

Fellaini? Lukaku? Both pushed out by OGS simply by being treated abysmally.

Why put yourself into an irreversible situation of having players leave without first having their replacements?
Why allow Sanchez to leave after the window closes?

Perhaps you think it's ideal to have our season hopes resting on the efficacy of a 17 year old striker. I personally think that is not the best route for his development.

Depends who you’re referring to and what exactly they’re saying, but on the evidence of the football we’ve watched, which is plain for all to see, something needs to change

Ok it’s a rebuild. Even Sir Alex isn’t winning a title with this lot. But we need some sort of evidence we’ve got the right man. He’s not getting the best out of his best players imo and sticking too loyal to ones who prove time after time they aren’t good enough.

Changing managers isnt going to change a thing. Pep, Klopp.. christ even SAF would struggle in the same shoes as Ole at the minute.

Hes done what everyone has been calling on for years in selling / dropping the deadwood and bringing through some of the youth potential we have in the wings. He was never going to get rid of them all at once, so unfortunately we have to stick it out with a few of them for the time being.. Hes been massively let down in the fact that the players that have left have not been replaced. he made the right moves but is now fighting an uphill battle with a hugely depleted squad, massive holes in the MF and his so called star players letting him down again and again.

I think if you bring in another manager he wont last either.. still the same problems... rinse, repeat

Thats why he isn't playing every game.
Tretaed abysmally, both were hated here and most people wanted them out, now Ole is at fault for pushing them out. Fantastic.
As I said first to blame is Ed.

Why would you take Big Sam, to save us from relegation? I mean it's ridiculous.
I said I'd take him over OGS, not that he was my preferred choice.

The whole club is madness. The managerial role is a revolving door; the institutions around it should be setup to cope with that. I don't think you should ever PLAN for a manager to stay longer than 24 months. It happens, but club planning should be around the worst case scenario anyway.
