I guess Woodward will do what he did last season and replace the manager at the start of an easier run of fixtures to give them the best chance of getting off to a good start.

My prediction is therefore Ole will be sacked after Bournemouth away, so the first fixtures for the new manager will be:
Partisan (h)
Brighton (h)
Sheffield Utd (a)
Astana (a)
Villa (h)
Spurs (h)
Your thinking is sound

If it was a mess I still would have stuck with Ole.

But this is full blown crisis and need an emergency response, on the double.

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE WHO ARE VOTING SACK.

Who would you replace him with?
I don’t know, we don’t know, it’s not our fecking job to know, but all we know is the performances on the pitch are in fecking free fall!

The best I think we can hope for is someone like Poch (unlikely), a new manager bump, then a massive spend in January, the spend we should have done in the summer (unlikely).

Club Legend with pure Manchester United DNA is not necessarily a competent manager. It’s a big joke boasting about past glory as an excuse for poor coaching ability and experience. He sold Lukaku and Sanchez for no replacement. He concluded he has the best team and no need to buy better players. He should start from level 2 or 3 coaching like Lampard to prove himself first.

That's the key here isn't it, if we knew the board had let him down it would cut him some slack with the fans. If Ole himself sanctioned the transfers in the knowledge he'd be left with what he has currently, he deserves the bullet.

Woodward should have the guts to stand up and say he let Ole down.
100% this. I would have sympathy for Ole if he wasn’t given an opportunity to sign more players. I sense he trusted the youngsters. Otherwise why else would you sell Lukaku the last day of the season and then let Sanchez go if you know you are already short of strikers?

Ole was brought in because he could do better than the last manager. Apparently it couldn't be any worse than when Jose was in charge. Turns out it can be a lot, lot worse.

On top of that, it is a joke that Ole sold Lukaku, agreed to pay Inter for Sanchez to not play for us, and assumed that Rashford, Martial, and Greenwood would be good enough to cover that loss.

But the worst thing, which I haven't seen many people mention, is that the same Ole also let Herrera go because he believes a midfield of McTominay, Periera, and Fred is better. Absolute madness.
The results are poor and he needs a win in the next couple of matches, but the bolded is not true and has been debunked 100 times.

Should never have got the job permanently in the first place. When it was officially announced the wheels had begun to fall off as United had lost their previous 2 games. Its alright having support for a club legend but he is out of his depth as a manager All those that keep supporting him do realise that United could easily slip into a relegation battle if this continues. Its not just this season either, this goes back to the end of March. Since then they are averaging just over a point a game. Relegation form.

I'd agree, sadly. I loved having Ole back at the club, and up to the PSG game last season it was wonderful. But as pretty much everyone agrees now, the board should never have made him permanent so quickly. It's a real shame, but I can't see anyway back for Ole at this point. We look absolutely lost everytimet we set foot on the pitch.

But if we do sack OGS, I really want a DoF before any new manager is appointed.

Fans may not like his football but I would take Allegri. Our defence is the only strength in our squad at the moment. He will get that sorted and hopefully steady the ship. Plus he’s available. If we don’t give him a long term contract we can get rid when our real target is available.

Ole has over optimism about academy but the reality is academy is not producing good technically sound players.. for whatever reason. And second, they all are too young to compete for PL title or even top 4 finish.

We've been unlucky with injuries, got loads of key players out.

Yes Ole has made some mistakes, I'm not his biggest fan, but sacking him won't do us any good.

The transfer business in the summer was pathetic. We finished the window with a squad incapable of dealing with an injury crisis like this.

Where is this DOF? Why wasn't another midfielder signed at least?? Where's Lukaku's replacement??!

The club is an absolute joke-shop. But Ole is trying to rebuild this team - it's a long term project.

If we sack him now, the circus continues.
You can't keep blindly following something hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. We faced a relegation club that are probably run worse than us and we couldn't muster up anything bar a Maguire header. We are heading towards one of our worst finishes in years and playing some horrendous football. Was there anything positive to take from today's match?

He will be gone soon but the whole experiment has set us back again if he’s not there to oversee what we have tried to do. Basically we got rid of multiple experienced players without buying any replacements, and then tried to stick young players on our bench and have them integrate into the team as season goes. If we now try to go for a new manager who would be supposed to take over and win, I don’t think many would be able to achieve that with this group. Our squad is completely ruined.
It’s not experiment, it’s a strategy. The board, particularly the Woodward regime, have made a lot of mistakes, but for the first time they actually have plan.

The strategy seems to revolve around building a young British core. They made good progress this summer with the three players we signed, but was it perfect? feck no. But it’s idiotic to expect them to fix everything in one transfer window.

Sack Ole now, and the board are admitting they don’t have the stomach to see a plan through. Which manager in the right mind would want to work in a regime like this?

Or just go, never to be seen again, now that really would be a turning point for the club.

I would be stunned if Ole sanctioned all those departures in the full knowledge that he would only get the three players he did, I fully believe he expected more were joining.

No point sacking him now. Best option is to wait til Potch is sacked and then hire him, moving OGS upstairs into DOF.

Glazers will never sanction paying out OGS and Potch contracts at same time
Why?

Exactly. You give him at least 3 years, preferably more, to show what he can do. The key word is 'patience'.

The big difference is they aren’t tested at all at this level. The Chelsea youngsters were loaned out for more than one season in some cases, and they have been able to compete. We have promoted 4-5 youngsters with absolutely no first team experience. Plus promoting players like Rashford, McTom and Pereira to senior level when 1) they also have a lack of first team experience / responsibility 2) aren’t good enough to be senior players.

To those posters who are still saying we should back him.. What do you think needs to change for us to improve?
Pogba and Martial come back and stay healthy the rest of the year.

Seriously, even Pep couldn't do well with a midfield consisting of Fred, Pereira, Mata and McTominay. None of those players are good enough.

We all said prior to the season that it would take multiple transfer windows to undo the damage bc of poor purchases over the past 5 years. It takes talent to win. Ole isn't the root of the problem-- it's Woodward. But Ole needed to get off to a better start-- and silly points dropped to Newcastle, Palace and Southampton have put him under pressure.

That said, a club like United should be aiming for a top 5 or top 10 at the worst as manager of their club. Ole is obviously not a top 10 manager.

It's weird. Ole isn't good enough for a club like United, but on the flip side, who out there is available AND would want the job? Seriously, which manager out there would be chomping at the bit to manage United and work with Woodward? They would only sign for United for the money. Money is important, bc United lose a fair chunk if they miss the Champions League this year.

So--- do you sign Allegri to finish the season and offer him a 10mm pound bonus if he qualifies for the Champions League? He is tactically strong and Pogba did well under him. He would give the club a boost and I feel, he would give United a better shot to win the Europa League or finish top 4 than Ole. Allegri probably wouldn't want to be here more than 1 season anyway as he can probably get better offers elsewhere.

Move Ole to the director of football---- and this is a dream scenario for Woodward. He upgrades the manager, moves Ole to the DoF and relieves a little pressure on himself. Is Ole good enough for the DoF job? It doesn't matter. Woodward would do it just to stop taking so much heat for his incompetence on the footballing side. He can point out that Ole's 3 summer signings have so far performed well, and that the DoF is where he is better suited.

Would Ole want the role? He'd probably take it till the end of the season, who knows. Maybe not, but if he says no, then Woodward can be like, see, I tried to fill the DoF role.

TLDR: Ole wasn't good enough before the season started. Allegri coming in to finish the season may be the best bet for all parties involved if United's board desires to win the Europa League.

Those youngsters are not poor players and can look good in a proper system. Blackett, McNair and even Borthwick Jackson all looked good under Van Gaal because they came into a team that had a system. Bloody Matty Longstaff looked great today against the shambles that Ole is in full control over.

Presumably because we're needlessly nostalgic. The idea that Solskjaer should be DoF is one of the worst and weirdest things I've seen paraded on here.

We should just get rid of him, he's doing a terrible job and we're not going anywhere under him. He doesn't need time because he's a rubbish manager.
This. Enough is enough.

The team that came 2nd was a pretty good squad, 3 players more we would be closer to City.

The team Ole inherited was pretty good if kept or replaced Herrera, Fellaini, Lukaku and Sanchez.
Didn’t we all want rid of them all aside from Herrera? Sorry but we’ve made our bed we need to lye in it now. We just have to struggle on till we can get some more players in and the board needs to get their hand in their pocket and spend what ever it takes to get the right players/characters in this team. Oles got a 100 % hit rate so far in signings as far as I’m concerned. He’s shipped out half the shit no one liked. Got rid of de gea’s fluffer and is even getting a new physio in cos the one we’ve got has probably the worst record in the prem.

Managers have to earn patience. You don’t give someone 3 years because that’s the done thing to do. We will have a relegation scrap on our hands this season at this rate.

And anyway we can still continue with the British core without Solskjaer. Put a DOF in place to target signings. Tell the next manager you would prefer British and younger players. Get a manager in with those ideals anyway.

All the statistics and evidence prove Solskjaer isn’t up for the job. Even with injuries I expect the team to be able to create more than one shot on target against Newcastle and Alkmaar. And then we have the manager saying in his post match interview ‘we are creating chances’.

True, whoever is his replacement will get fecked over by Ed and the cycle continues

I think I’d keep him for now. He has been naive in the transfer window and by thinking his squad is good enough. But I believe he will get the mentality back at our club over a few windows. Whether or not I can last that long I don’t know.

Then why did we sack Jose? Why didn't he finish the season with us? Was it because the performances were poor and the players disliked him?

You don't give a manager 3 years when you can see the ship sinking regardless if there is a "plan". I would give Ole time if I can see something, but what positives can you take from this season. If we don't get a worldie or a pen we look absolutely devoid of any ideas on how to score. Ole has to take the blame for how the side are set up. Both Lingard and Mata have flattered to deceive in the 10 role, yet we continue with them in that position. Why he hasn't decided to change the formation, or go back to the formation that made the fans want him to have the job in 433.

Eddie Howe would seem to be the obvious choice.

Basically Solskjaer but (sort of) proven.

You won't do any better.

It always amazes me how some people never learn from past events that point to the blindingly obvious in the face:

Moyes was never a manager for Utd, sack him after 6 months or 10 months made no difference but made the fans suffer for longer.

LVG was never a its manager, sack him after 1 year or 2 years made no difference but made the fans suffer for longer.

Mourinho was supposedly the right manager for Utd (some disagreed), sack him after 2 seasons or 2.5 seasons made no difference but made the fans suffer for longer.

Ole never has and never will be the standard of a Utd manager, sack him now or the end of the season will make no difference (bar perhaps relegation dogfight) but will make the fans suffer for longer.
Players were identified in the summer and we were looking for five players even before Lukaku was sold. Ed ran out of time again and only signed three players, two very good defenders and a young winger. Not enough by a long way. We had a weak attack with an almost total lack of creative attacking players and goalscorers and we didn't sign a creator and sold our main striker without replacing him. We knew this at the start of the season, people are choosing to forget this now that they want someone to blame since Woodward's beyond peoples reach.

Cant believe we still have 48% supporting this clueless manager. We have 1.03 points average per game and that put us at 43 points.

If that's not relegation form, I dont know what else is.
Yay, we'll stay up with 43.

People who are still supporting him are either:
1) Hopeless romantics who want a legend to succeed here.
2) As clueless as Ole regarding the mentality and ability required at a big club.
3) Opposition fans.
