So defeat against Liverpool and pressure on but not defeat against Brucey's Newcastle?

So Liverpool should grab a goal and then take the piss for a bit then so that we have to keep an incompetent manager?

If they base decisions on the future of the club on 'external reactions' then we're in even bigger trouble than it looks.
Absolutely.

Looks like it was external reactions that got him the permanent job in the first place. This club hasn’t a clue.

Edit: @Judas got in just before me!

Simon Stone BBC: The big question is whether United will stand by the 46-year-old if the present situation gets worse.

However, there is a very real fear from some inside the club that should Liverpool inflict a heavy defeat on United on 20 October, the external reaction may create pressure they find too hard to resist.

This would be regarded as unfair by those who feel Solskjaer's three signings have been positive additions but only represent the first phase of what needs to be achieved.

However, the alternate view is that Solskjaer is not up to the job and a defeat by Liverpool would merely confirm it.

Either way, the next two weeks are not going to be easy for anyone connected with Manchester United.

This confirms all I need to know. He's gone regardless of the Liverpool result (which face it, it will probably be an L) - they just don't want to install a new manager and start him off with a heavy defeat, because that would look bad on the board.

Ole is as good as gone.

Our club is actually a laughing stock.

External pressure leading to decisions.

Then again, it's the only reason Ole got the job.

We are doomed with the Glazers and Woodward.

Only hope is hiring a manager who could somehow mask it all.

That would be what I'd do too.

Sack him after the Liverpool game no matter what.

Don't install the interim/new manager with a game against Pool as his 1st game.

The thing is, I (and likely @Lentwood also) am perfectly well adjusted enough to handle Utd being shit. You and the rest of this toxic shitshow of a thread, seemingly are not.

I can handle us being shit because for me, Utd isn't just about winning trophies. It's about going to the games with your mates, having a laugh and enjoying what you see on the pitch. Everything else is a bonus. And it has, and always will be, this way.
Are you for real? who the feck is enjoying this shit show ?

Feel really bad for him but his stubbornness will cost him is job. Still hoping he turns it around but the odds aren't in his favor.

Will never ever understand the idea of boycotting 4-3-3 when it worked so well for him.

The reality is that without Pogba, united have a mid table midfield. And in attack, Pereira on the right, Rashford in the middle and a resent championship winger on the left. That´s not a top 4 attack. It´s mid table.

You are forgetting that 4-3-3 was also the formation at the end of the season, where United were countered to death and were having a terrible run of games. So I can understand that he - or the couching team, it´s probable more correct to say - saw the need of making some changes.

But I agree with you that Ole has to go back to start, and play to his squad´s strengths. There are hardly any defensive midfielders in the squad and no nr. 10.

Weren't both Moyes and Mourinho sacked on Tuesdays?
I know this sounds bad, and I love Ole as a player, but I was hoping I’d wake up today to news of him sacked, unfortunately it might take a Liverpool thrashing and other bad results to sack him..

It’s a tricky situation for Ed, and the board.. I said it earlier, they shot themselves in the foot by not buying more players, now if they sack a club legend (without buying half of what’s needed), it would back fire on them, but also he needs to be sacked.

With top 4 and adidas situation, they have to be almost ready to pull the trigger, I hope/want they do it before the Liverpool match, I think we can turn our season around, other top 4 candidates aren’t anything special this time around..

It’s hard to argue we should keep him, other than to let him finish rebuilding us. But given that we need 10 new players regardless, why not just get a more competent manager to do it?

The players Ole has inherited are not up to the standard we have been used to at United. He's had one transfer window with his hands probably tied. This endless gamble of changing managers' is nothing more than a gamble. I'm not sure how people work out if Ole and his other coaches are incompetent without knowing their methods. You need to be at Carrington to really know what he's and they're about.

To be fair, we have basically played with a reserve team or with a squad of players who would normally be either subs or played in lesser competitions. The exceptions being De Gea, Maguire and Rashford over the last several games. Any manager/coach in the world would suffer from these players who have passed their best or are still learning their trade.

Hard to blame him when he has a midtable squad but is still expected to finish top 4 minimum. Not that it absolves him from any blame, but the expectations of where we should be and what our squad actually is are completely different, which is unfair on him. I'd only have De Gea, Maguire, AWB and Pogba starting in a team that should be making top 4. The rest are all squad level at best, and yet they're starting every week for us.

Does anyone on here watch Norwegian football and could comment on how Molde have done since he left them?
We’re they a good team under Ole and have they gone downhill now or got better?
Given that all he has ever achieved in English football management is relegation or relegation form, then his time at Molde is the only other factor to think about.

The are top 5 points clears. 6 games to go.

They finished 2nd under Ole 5 points behind.

It's poor management on his part though. He didn't need to sell Fellaini when Herrera was running down his contract. He didn't need to sanction selling Lukaku without even identifying a replacement. He didn't need to let Sanchez walk out knowing he has no proper striker or right winger. And now he's just playing players in the wrong position which again he doesn't need to do. All this whilst insisting on a formation which obviously doesn't work for us.

I don't think one needs to be in Carrington every day to see he has a weird obsession with shoehorning players in the wrong position, or he made an error in agreeing to letting certain key players go. They may not have been a long term fit, but never sanction the sale unless you know there's a replacement in place. It's just basics. And then on top of all of that our players don't even look coached. There are teams with worse XIs looking far more tactically drilled into a system. You know what to expect from Southampton, Bournemouth, Norwich even Newcastle. Even if it's not efficient for points.

You don't know anything from Ole. We look like a bunch of players from Powerleague or Goals on a Sunday, where the players have just met each other 10 minutes before kick off. Not all of that is down to Ed Woodward. Changing Ole for an actual coach is not a gamble, it's likely an improvement.

We went with clearing out players as much as possible, most of which we would all agree with, did'nt replace them, grand so we go with youths and attack like feck, however... we are still playing the remaining proven wasters and playing conservative football, creating no chances, and we are not keeping cleans sheets. His best option imho is to just play the youths and attack, if it goes to shit so what, it is going that way anyway, but at least the youths get experience, and experience with an ATTAKCING mentality not a negative one, nobody would have as much criticism as they have now doing that, we would win some, lose some but it would be exciting if nothing else, when we improved our defence I thought it was aimed at allowing us to do just that but it seems to be something else, trying to box clever, but the scraps the forwards are getting they not able to convert because they are not up to it, just flood teams with attacks and try to score more than they do, I did not expect this I have to say after his initial start, an attacking club legend during our most fruitful spell under the best manager ever and his interviews on how we should play, the mentality needs to change immediately or this is fecked.

Ole is the big reason for that though. Lukaku sanchez smailing herrera all happened under his watch. He's either too stiff to compromise, too inept to motivate them as a new coach, or too naive to think that he can get 8 players in one window, or too naive like moyes thinking he'd get 3 seasons regardless.

At this rate he's doing so bad you cant really blame anyone else.

You can blame the glazer if we come 7th, 6th. But not 17 pts in 17 games that's on ole

Good. Now for the love of god I hope they start asking questions and sacking people. But they wont.
We’re in a really bad situation.. the market is very inflated, other clubs know we’re in dire need of players, so there is a significant markup when we come knocking, might lose the adidas money, 900m drop, the Glazers are money hungry.. I hope I’m being overly pessimistic, but it looks like this is the beginning of the end of us being a “top team”.

Herrera was not Ole's fault. That is on the board. Sanchez was useless and I don't think you can blame Ole for letting him leave. Letting Lukaku was fine too - he wanted to leave and I think people forget that fact. The problem was the failure to get a replacement.

7 years ago our main striker finished on 34 goals, so what did Fergie do? Went on and bought another striker who scored 37 goals that season. Last season, our 3 strikers scored 40 goals between them combined, what did Ole do? Sold one of them and then went on to spend 130m on defense. That's just an example of his poor planning and him having not learnt much from his time previously at the club.

Christ. Herrera was obviously not on Ole. Herrera himself even said as much. He had ready made his choice to leave. And what would Smalling have contributed? It's not like we have any defensive issues now. The one player that might have made a difference is Lukaku. And he wanted to leave. We were right to let him go but Woodward should have got a replacement in which Ole obviously wanted and still does.
