I can't see it happening, and I'm not sure I'd want it to either, but the idea is an interesting thought experiment.
I can’t see it happening either but I would like Rogers to get the job right now! We would be transformed. We may or may not be top 4 stuff but we would 100% look a better team. Rogers would be doing much, much better with the players we have.

Anyone thinking otherwise is on something.

I’d take him as specialist attacking coach that strictly showed up to Carrington at 8am, left at 5pm to go straight home and never did any interviews, ever.

Would anyone want him here? I've heard a few United fans say they'd take him. He's an excellent manager!
Me for one. I have mentioned before that we should have waited until the end of the season to make a decision on Ole instead of jumping too quickly. We would have had the option of Rogers.
What might have been eh.

A year or two ago I was joking (partly serious) on here that wouldn't it be perfect if Utd went for FSW or David Brent just so we could revive their old threads on here.

Now it's bloody lucky you haven't. :nervous:

I'm still behind Ole as he needs more time to see if he can take us forward, but Brendan wouldn't be a bad option in the future. I dislike him...but maybe that's because he was at Liverpool!
You're wasting your time backing Ole honestly, we're not seeing any improvement since he was made permanent.

Rodgers is good, knows how to coach and he improves players.

I would find it strange if we hired him because he is definitely a bit cringeworthy but he is also a very good manager and I think he would actually fit what we need very well.

People call Heinze a prick because he wanted to move to Pool but now are hoping for an ex-scouse manager to take over whose favourite buzzword seems to be 'mentality'. Rodgers is the current flavour of the month/season, don't think United would be so much better off longterm with him.

Who were the best ones available when we hired LVG and Jose. I'm all ears.
Definitely not some guy who hadn’t managed a club team in 5 odd years or the bloke who’d just been sacked by a 12th place Chelsea

I’m not sure his flavour of the month. As everyone was confident he could do great things with Leicester as soon as he was hired. So many tipped them to break top 4 this season before a ball was even kicked this season.

I’m not sure I’d want him, but he undoubtedly would be doing much better than Ole with the same group of players that I’m certain off.

Clearly see Rogers coaches his team and players know their job on the pitch.

I don’t think there is any argument that Ole is a better manager than Rodgers. The issue is his past association with Liverpool, for many that would be too much. However, it cannot be denied he has done a superb job nearly everywhere he has went. Ole couldn’t get Cardiff going.

Very good manager, who gets his teams playing good, expansive football.

A 4141 with width to stretch teams with a low block, as we saw from Barnes and Perez yesterday. Two creative advanced 8's in Maddison and Tielemans and Vardy, up top, who very rarely gets involved in Leicester's build up play, but makes intelligent in behind that doesn't interfere with his teammates.

Yesterday, in a game Liecester dominated, Vardy made 12 passes all game and had 24 touches, but scored three goals.

As a manager, that wouldnt bother me because ultimately, a striker is there to score however, a lot was made of amount of touches/passes when Lukaku played up top for us, but his job should never have been to get involved in a build up play, but to stretch the opposition's back line, with the creativity coming from behind.

You then have their back four which consists of two very good attacking full backs and two ball playing centre backs, which I feel is the only area in our team i'm relatively comfortable with. Everywhere else obviously needs improving.

Now, I'd like to see us adopt a 4141, but it would need us to get some new personnel in.

Martial
Rashford Advanced 8 Pogba Right Winger
Holding Midfielder
Shaw Maguire Lindelof Wan-Bissaka
De Gea

Romero Tuanzebe Dalot McTominay Attacking Midfielder James Striker/Right Winger

Irrelevant as far as I am concerned; if he gets the team playing well here and wins the league, that's what will count. His name should be in the mix whenever Ed decides to get his finger out.

I think we could try something like this until the end of the season.

He has his antics but to be honest He's a very good manager and now He's better than ever.

Only one game prevented him from winning the title.

Why on Earth do you think he will give up the Leicester job now? Maybe end of the season he might think about it.
As for being an ex Liverpool manager what about ex Liverpool and a City player who came to United?

Taking someone like Rodgers truly would be a new approach, combine it with Ed fecking off and we finally could be in business.

LvG and Jose were just the biggest names we could find at that particular time, no real due diligence done as to how it would pan out long term, Ole was is purely here because he is ex United, to hell with his actual ability to do the job, and Moyes was just a forgivable mistake.

Rodgers could crash and burn like the rest, but he seems a far better bet anything we've tried post Fergie, and let's be clear, he was sacked by Liverpool, so him been successful here would really rub them up the wrong way, a bit like us discarding a young player and him going on to rip it up at Liverpool, it would be horrible to see.

Leicester City are about the quality of Lazio. I used to want Rodgers to fail because he's a bit full of himself, but I did have the feeling that he would improve Leicester a great deal.

Don't rule them out of the title race yet.

Edit: Certainly whenever his teams lose he looks embarrassed... "I should be winning every game" attitude.

Let's be honest even before he actually joined Leicester deep down we all knew that he would be an improvement over Claude Puel who didn't do too badly really. Leicester City were capable of this.
Rodgers was an improvement on Puel right in the line of the club's thoughts. Build a team relying on young, talented players mixed with older ones, comfortable in both attacking without giving up on our trademark counter-attacking football (in theory). Said players coming either from our academy or being smart signings.

Let's get something straight though. I see people raving about Rodgers, but the one who really started the rebuild after our title win is Puel in 2017, after the catastrophic Shakespeare experiment. The latter was named caretaker after Ranieri's sacking. He was the managers assistant for a long, knew the club very well and was loved by the players and fans alike. He got the dead cat bounce, reverted to the old style even took us the CL quarters. So we name him permanent manager in that summer, although he had no real managing experience. 2017/18 start is a disaster, everybody quickly finds out that he was out of his depth. Horrible football, disgraceful performances (even the wins), team looking lost on the pitch. Club reacts swiftly, sacks him in October and brings Puel in.

He did the groundwork by phasing out the ageing players and clearing the deadwood. We hired him because he had a proven record of improving young players, getting the most of his flair players (E.Hazard at Lille, Ben Arfa at Nice, Mahrez when he still was with us) and an eye for talent. Tielemans (loan), Maddison, Soyuncu, Pereira, Evans were his signings. He persisted with Chilwell when most of the fans wanted him either sold or loaned. He gradually blooded Choudhury, recalled Barnes from loan and prepared Soyuncu last season to take Maguire's place. He made us more comfortable with the ball at a time where we couldn't string three passes together and were just hoofing it to Vardy.

The negative side was that his football was slow possession based with average to mediocre performances at home, although he had a knack at getting points against the top 6 sides. At some point we felt that he couldn't take us anywhere up and brought Rodgers in, who still has the same philosophy (youth, attacking football), but produces a better football and would get better results. This seems to pay off but do not forget that Rodgers would never have come at the time where Puel took over and he'll certainly go somewhere else should a big club come calling. I like to think that the club is already looking for a successor.

In my opinion, as long as you have a clear vision and set your own objectives, you'll know which manager to get and have no problem in sacking one who doesn't live up to your standards. We sacked Ranieri, who by all means is an absolute club legend, because he fluffed his lines in his (very short) second season and was taking us down. Same for Shakespeare. We gave Puel more time because it was time for a clear out and a complete rebuild. However we signed him because, as I already said, he was known to be a builder.

By the look of it and how this season is shaping up, I think that we have a fair shot at the top 6, maybe top 4. Not carried away though, it's a hard job to be in the top and the big fish won't be in a slump for very long. We'll see how far we can go under Rodgers.

So this isn’t just a freak result, then, this specific result is a direct reflection of what an amazing manager Brendan Rodgers has apparently been all this time. Wow.

Seems like yesterday's record win is causing people to jump from the Pochettino to the Rodgers bandwagon. :)

Let's be real Ole is a joke of a coach compared to Rodgers who almost got Liverpool the title. Would we want him here over Ole from a pure talent standpoint, in a heartbeat! Ole is the most unqualified coach in probably the top two divisions of English soccer. Our team isn't great with injuries to key positions, but the unqualified manager isn't doing us any favors.

That being said do we really want a failed ex Liverpool coach? Nope. Many other better options.

That midfield triangle of Maddison, Tielemans and Ndidi have been superb for them. Rodgers have been very successful at creating partnerships like these throughout his career.
And we could have purchased Tielemans but our genius manager didn't want to - all for 40 million as well.

He is a top class manager. Managers just like players improve. He has gone up a level since his Liverpool days and he was already very good then. For me he is clearly better choice than Allegri. But his Liverpool past will cloud peoples judgement here. Perennially I think he will get the city job when pep leaves

Conte was comfortably better than Jose at that point.
I'm not even gonna debate this. 'comfortably' is a ridiculous way of putting it. There's no way he was 'comfortably' better than Jose. Jose won the PL the season before the one he got the sack and his CV talked for him.
