Teach me Havak-sensei.
Haha, it depends what you want to know? Most of the in-depth / hidden stuff can easily be found online, but I could give some opinions on the better ways to do things.

Also, thanks to everyone using spoiler tags! Keep that up! I'm hoping to keep as much of this new as possible, which seemed to be TPCi's wish this time. Unfortunate as it may be, they tried haha

People used RNG manipulation back in Gen 3 & 4 to get perfect ones of every good Nature - or, just hacked them in within the perimeters of game code to pass most checks which isn't difficult. Then, you just use them to breed perfect Pokemon. Any Pokemon bred from them are perfectly legit by how the game works.

Needing to do this is becoming less of an issue now though. In Sword and Shield it seems like it will be possible to change the stats the Nature boosts, IVs, EVs and Ability to the preferred ones willy-nilly through use of certain NPCs and items. They're making it far more accessible to the average player.

We can probably have more in depth discussion about this after we beat the game and learn the ins and outs of it, I'm very excited about getting into the competitive scene of these games.

I'd idealy prefer to be surprised, but also know the starters final forms so I can decide which to pick. Used to be easier, you pick the croc/alligator one and eventually you get a bigger croc/alligator...

feckin' hell, remember back then you couldn't even see the stats(barring a gameshark/action replay), and had to count ev's yourself. I think, now though, you don't even need to be that careful training ev's, iirc, you can't overshoot and waste a few points like you used to?

Sounds good! Should be some local events popping up in January so I can try and help people with teams.

Yeah, looking back on Ruby/Sapphire now it's outrageous what they expected you to do to be able to build a legitimate competitive team on the cartridge haha

It does stop at 252 EVs now per stat, so you wouldn't waste that extra point anymore if you were going all-in for that particular stat.

Official from Pokemon:
  • Mints to change the effects of a Pokemon's nature
  • Apparently no longer a limit when using supplements (Calcium etc) to boost Pokemon's base stats (EV), previously there was a limit
  • Pokemon of same species can pass egg moves to each other
  • Pokemon boxes can be accessed almost anywhere
  • Level up using EXP candies (Rare Candy is also a thing but EXP candies come in the form XS, S, M, L, XL)

Give peas a chance.
The full Pokedex has apparently leaked, according to this Porygon article, which I'm spoilering just in case anybody accidentally taps on it using their phone or something. Obviously it's all a

MASSIVE BLOODY SPOILER
.

I'm not looking, but somebody might want to.
Same. Part of the fun of new mainline Pokemon games is being surprised by new monsters you meet. Can't wait.

One box of breeding, 6IV Cubone and a 5IV shiny. Not bad.

@syrian_scholes watching videos like this from Austin John Plays is useful for learning the kind of stuff that goes into competitive breeding.

I've got a box full of dittos of every nature (the Adamant one is currently in the nursery) and the abras are for synchronising nature of wild Pokemon (used them to get the dittos).

A fair bit of the video above should loosely apply to SwSh

though for my mentioning of abra, I believe that line isn't in SwSh so you can't synchronise natures with them, but nature mints counter that problem

Another video specifically on EV training.

Someone sent me an apparent 'move dump' of moves that have been removed from the game. Some interesting omissions, most notably:

Hidden Power.

It's always been a very competitive move as it was often the only way to add coverage on certain Pokémon. I'm kind of excited to see it go though, as a lot of the time it was a guessing game of 'do they have Hidden Power on their X to beat my Y" etc.

looking at it from the perspective that they're wanting to open competitive play up to the more casual players, the amount of grinding it takes and that the developers probably don't want to introduce x new items purely to change something that is utilised by one move, it makes sense to remove it completely. Gonna be loads of pissed off players though who spent the time working on it.

How shit is the Pokemon community really? Death threats to devs and Serebii(who has nothing with cut Pokemon but has a positive outlook on the game), false accusations of rape and complete hysteria wtf?

The more footage I've seen of Sword and Shield the more unimpressed I am. Compare it to other big releases for the Switch and it just looks like Gamefreak couldn't be arsed putting in the effort to make it as good as possible.

Yeah this the least bothered I've ever been for a Pokemon game, absolutely no interest in it at all tbh.

It's weird, because I've been dreaming about a proper home console Pokémon game for over a decade, but it just looks lifeless, e.g. the wingulls moving around in the wild area.

It looks like a 3DS game being played upscaled on an emulator to me (maybe exaggerating slightly, but still I get that vibe).

Maybe I'm just over them now, I dunno!

The problem with the footage being shared is all about glitches, I've seen some of the stream and it looks really good, the battles are fluid, the QoL changes for competitive are really good, the new designs are solid, it's being blown out of proportion because of cut Pokemon

Arlo is a shit tuber, I wouldn't take him seriously if I were you, anyway the reviews are out tomorrow so I'm waiting for those before making a final decision.
