Martial cannot be a number 10, because a player in that position has to drop into midfield very often. A second striker is a different proposition, but it also means changing up the whole system of the team to suit a 2 striker formation. It makes the likes of Rashford and James (to a lesser extent) redundant, and requires a different type of wide players, which we don't have at all.

You seem very hurt that people may be against the signing of your godly idol Haaland. It's as if you have some personal stake in that happening.
SS then, he is the one making things happen around him. The rest of your post is just drivel, and the way you ended it there, jaysus. I’m just going to chalk it up to you just hitting puberty. Goodbye now:yawn:

I've seen a lot of Haaland and conversely worry about this potential transfer because of these inflated expectations. Take away any allegiance or opinion you have on him and he's a 19 year old who is really playing his first season as the main striker at a half decent club in a half decent league. He looks like he has potential but he also looks far from a £100m player. If he comes will he be expecting to start every game? Will he be happy being backup to Martial?
He is very focused on development, and to get that, you need to at least be a part of a rotationsystem. He will be happy to play in a rotationsystem like he does in Salzburg, sharing gametime with his teammates. To spend 60+M on a 19 year old as a back up would be madness, and unfair to his talent. One of the reasons he might actually sign here is that we are the only big club out there without a proven striker, and getting minutes here is more realistic than for other big clubs. If he is not promised game time he will choose Leipzig.

Mate, there is only so much I can do before you drag me down to your childish level of communication. The fact that you are getting triggered is quite funny though, I have to admit. Hopefully you will be able to cope with reality when we eventually don't sign Haaland.

Well you have been saying it's Martial's fault that he hasn't taken the number 9 role consistently, whilst knowing perfectly well the circumstances of the last few years, the players and manager we had that halted his natural progression.
You just make up what other people say. I said he's been struggled for fitness and he's been patchy in form. Neither of these statements are false. That doesn't mean anyone is bashing him.
You also basically want to replace him with Haaland, because apparently the Norwegian is more consistent and has more talent. Which is a crazy reaction to a player, who is playing in the Austrian league. What if the main reason that Haaland scores so much is the team around him and the system they play?
I don't want to "replace" anyone. Again, you're just making things up.

I know we need goals in our team and along with midfield positions, an out and out striker is also a need. Martial hasn't proved he can be that guy and when he's injured on top, we have no one.

It's not like the two can't play in the same team.
And let's not forget how much money we will have to pay. I would definitely take Haaland for, say, £30 million. The pressure would be minimal and he could realistically be a bench player. But we all know that we will have to pay way over the odds and with that comes huge expectations, like we have already seen it with the likes of Pogba, Lukaku and Maguire.
A player will compete for his spot regardless of the price. Sanchez was dropped when he stopped performing, Pogba has been dropped and a striker certainly has no place to hide. You just bone Martial to a weird level, where any constructive criticism is assumed as "bashing" and anyone coming for competition should be avoided.

It's thin because if key players are injured the reserves are not good enough. When Pogba and Martial were out we were hopeless. The solution to a weak squad is to replace 4 or 5 of the squad ASAP with better players. If we spend a season's transfer budget on one player that can't happen. We get Haaland and we keep weak players in our squad.

Yes. Another striker is an urgent priority. Rashford is not a #9 at this time. Greenwood is still too young. But the striker doesn't have to be an expensive player, unproven in the premiership. I want a reserve striker who can replace Martial, a play-maker and a defensive midfielder. For the same money as Haarland.
How exactly will that improve the team and position of Utd? What is the point in having lesser/equal quality players come in to replace players who aren't capable of challenging for the title..feck they can't even get 4th place. Surely it makes more sense to get the best you can get! Who are these 3 players you can get for the same price of Haaland?

Any playmaker or DM we bring in will probably be better than our current options (which are basically non-existent), enhancing the quality of our play.

Please don’t make assumptions on what kind of a player he is before actually checking him out. Read the analysis I posted in my last post. They will tell you that he is pretty far from a «Dzeko» kind of player and that he contributed a lot in the build up play. He is very direct in his playing style and extremely smart in his movement. It is really hard not to jump on the hypetrain if you take the time to actually dig into his stats and attributes and watch him regularly.
People on here make their judgement based on highlightvideos and that he’s not playing in a top 10 league. That is just lazy. (7 CL goals in 267 minutes and 23 goals in his last 22 national apperances for Norway should give a hint of real quality even for the lazy though)

Is he better than Martial? In my opinion; Yes he is. I think Haaland is the bigger talent by a mile. This is not bashing Martial, because he is a very good attacker, but I believe there’s a very good chance Haaland actually is that generational goalscoring talent that can take us back to the top. 100M might be a bargain. There is no reason why Martial, Rashford, James, Pogba, McTom and Fred shouldn’t make a great attacking unit with him. Add another creative midfielder a right wing and a DM and we are back in business.
Did you even read what i wrote? I clearly stated I watched a few videos of him before making similarities to dzeko. Dzeko too was very direct and smart in his movement. I dont know why your so on edge for because the comparison was actually a compliment. Dezko was a very good player for city and roma. If he apparently offers more than Dzeko in the buildup thats even better for us.

Is he better than martial? I dont know about that. Right now I wouldnt have him over our current best attacker. Especially when he hasnt even finished a whole season at the top. If he was to come here in january and replace martial as striker then fair enough. We could also check back at the end of the season. im sure if he's worth the hype the whole world would know by then.

Also why does everything have to be so extreme? "I think haaland is the bigger talent by a mile" is a bit much dont you think? You must not rate martial with that statement.

Only in a perfect world, where you have the mythical ‘two quality players for every position’. In reality it’s irrational to think we really need another striker at present. It’s not logical to be more content with James and Greenwood, as options on the right, than Martial and Rashford, as central forwards.

Our front three are relatively good, are doing relatively well and are relatively versatile. Martial and Rashford can play through the middle, all three can play from the left, with only James being adequate from the right. Quality off the bench is lacking, but then so is - at the very least - one of the starting midfield berths. Ideally, our next attacking signing would be a player who can operate both from the right and in the no.10 role, which would give us a more balanced squad than a new striker would.
Why is getting a striker and a RW mutually exclusive? We can and should get a striker and a RW. Rashford is no striker or CF.

yep, 3 minutes into his highlight reel I'm already sold. Doesn't look too tidy and aesthetic on the ball but he has good technical ability. Being tall, strong, fast and a sharp finisher with good movement? yes please!

Would he be good enough at the PL level? We don't know until we try. People have been complaining about us not buying young promising talents earlier in their career then pay mega money for them later instead, why are we still not happy with this?

I agree that these areas really do need to be addressed, but what 3 players are available and good enough for the price of 1 Haaland. Let's just say Haaland is 90million. That's 30million average on each player. These days 30million is peanuts!

Utd are in the situation they are in because they have been buying players for the sake of buying players to fill gaps in the squad. For the first time in almost a decade there is a clear recruitment policy at the club, it looks to be working. Yes the team are struggling a little, but it will improve. The management told us this at the start, that it will take time. They are sticking to their plan and I think they are doing the right thing.

I keep going on about it, but a team like Man Utd has no business signing mediocre players. They have to sign players to improve the first team! That is the only way to get back to the top imo. Fair enough, if they were challeging for honours it's quite alright to fill a gap for cover (if you can't improve on what you have) but Utd should ALWAYS try to improve on what they have got first and foremost....And the Man Utd team of today is very very much improvable!

Problem with this place and this thread in particular is that some people want this kid so badly that their reaction to any rance against the idea of buying the kid is met with extreme.

To convince themselves and everyone else in this thread that the kid's purchase is a must they resort to shitting on our striker option who happened to be Martial while overhyping and overrating the kid to ridiculous extent.

The above mentioned coupled with straw grasping arguments and distorted contexts("during Fergie time we had 4 strikers"(completely ignoring the fact that we played 2 strikers in those times), "Fergie bought Van Persie when he was available"(ignoring the fact that the team was more stable and not a shambles with glaring and massive weakness in key areas, not to mention it was Van fecking Persie a proven player and best striker in the PL)etc).

Our squad is crying for an injection of creativity right now and the people on the Caf know this. We simply cannot chose to focus on areas which don't need fixing right now when we've gotten screwed this season because our midfield is lacking.

What do people even think is going to happen with that kid here in our current state? Is he going to pull Messi like runs every games and score to maintain the scoring rate he's had in a third tier league? Lukaku was scoring for fun in Belgium as a fecking kid and was scoring plenty at Everton yet was a bust with us because of how many holes and disfunctianal our team was.

If you want to bring a player like that kid the first thing you need is to sort out your team's creativity. He won't get hot here without services and people have to get that through their skulls. It's that simple.
In my option, too many posts start with "the problem with this place..."

Everyone´s opinion. That people disagree with you, is not a "problem with this place".

I just don't see how it is appropriate for the club to spend a huge amount of money on a striker that requires service when the majority of fans have been complaining about the lack of creativity and chances created.

Like I said, spending £30 million on Haaland would be fine with me. But the quoted fees at the moment are insane in my opinion and would only hinder our ability to strengthen the areas that truly need it.

We need strength in depth in literally every position to challenge in the foreseeable future and Haaland would be a step in the right direction in that regard. He plays for a team in Austria that is accustomed to pressing from the front and would fit in well in that regard. He also has a very impressive physique and stands at 1.94 tall which will give us a different type of threat upfront. A threat which we currently don't have. If you factor in his blistering pace and technical qualities to the mix, then you have a extremely talented young striker with a high ceiling for growth.

I think it´s wrong to see him only as a target man. At Salzburg, he´s very much part of the build up play with this quick one touch passes. A nr.10 is needed as well, but right now we are only one injury on Martial apart from serious problems. It´s easier to fill the nr. 10 role with the current squad, although you would wish for more quality. I don´t see so many options either of whom to buy, especially in the January window. Haaland and Sancho would be attack fixed, just like Maguire and Bissaka was defence fixed in the summer.

This is actually all wrong. OGS said once that he saw some of Lukaku in him when he broke through in Tippeligaen, and now suddenly he is the reincarnation of Rom. He is big, strong and scores a lot of goals as a teenager, thats how far the similarities go. He is faster, has better movement and a lot more energy in his game than Lukaku. He really is his own breed, and is hard to compare to anyone in particular.
I’m not commenting on the Keane thing because either you are trolling or you are just really, really slow.....
Dare I say it sounds a little like Rooney tbh?

I'd switch Håland and Martial TBH. That way Martial gets to anticipate Rashford and vice versa whilst finishing with his right foot. Main concern with that formation is the midfield shape. Poor Scotty will have a lot on his plate. Should be a really nice setup against weaker sides.

I am against Haaland for now but I have seen him play about 4 times. Looks a little clumsy for my liking, how would that carry in a league where the pressure on you is 100 times more than in the austrian league. You do not even get that pressure on you in the champions league. I think Greenwood will be a special player and am happy to ride that wave with a more experienced centre forward coming in now to provide back up. Saying that I am prepared to say I may be wrong as again, I have seen him play only a few times. Seems like there are a lot of people on here who watch Austrian football game by game? The four matches i watched of his were in the champions league.

Reports now saying that Alf Inge Haaland has been spotted at Carrington. Apparently it was an Ornstein tweet based on a source.

He's a strange player. He looks incredibly raw and clumsy in general play and then suddenly becomes completely clinical in front of goal. With the right attitude his sheer physicality gives him a huge chance.

If Ole likes him I'm fine with it. He would provide competition for Martial allowing Rashford to focus on playing on the left. Greenwood should develop into a really good player on the right and we also have James who can play both sides with ease. Martial can play from the left too if needed with Haaland through the centre. It would be a decent set of options and allow us to turn our focus on signing players for #10 and midfield.
