I suspect Ole will try him out as a DM for us. He might not make it as a first teamer long term but I think he will as a squad option. The few times LVG played him as a midfielder for us I was impressed.
What games were you watching? LVG played him as right back, left back & centre back. There was only one time when he played midfield under LVG but I believe that was only short amount of time as a sub, can’t remember which game is that.

I say give him a go at DM. Would at least allow some others to move forward and try to be creative, which I know seems doubtful with our current options. Might not be the best on the ball but he can at least put athlete most and break up play.

Is he alive? Remember in 15-16 when we all thought we had a future star? Why must our players all turn to injury prone shite?

Was a big fan of TFM when he started getting some minutes under LVG, but never understood why people always saw him as a DM. Has he played there before for the reserves?

Oles said he’s an option in midfield.
Hasn’t played in over a year and I’d like to know when he last played consecutive games in midfield , but ya he’s an option in midfield.
Phil Jones is an option at this stage

I dont think he was a succes at Fulham or Crystal Palace.... if he couldnt make it there (even before he got injured) than why would he be able to make it at Manchester United?

It is nice to see that people still believe in him (or cling onto the hope of youth products still able to make it) but i dont see it happening unfortunately.

Arsenal game, 3-2 win (LVG usually won the big games). I'm sure TFM came on in the midfield and had virtually everyone afterwards saying that he should be a DM.

The fact that I can't remember any other senior games where he played well for us and that he had a disappointing loan spell is kinda concerning. I remember he gave away a penalty in the FA cup semi final against Everton.

Not sure why being out for awhile would make you forget how to play a position.

I think he has a part to play in this season, and would surprise some people in midfield.

Played left back I thought?

Yep - he did. His best performances for United were all at full back. He also played at full back for Palace and Fulham.

It would be a huge risk to play him in midfield.

He hasn’t played midfield since he was at youth level. He didn’t even play there much. He doesn’t know how to play midfield in the first place.

I stand corrected- he came on at 60 mins to replace Rojo at left back. I just looked it up.

I’m certain there was a lot of fan speculation that he would eventually make it as a DM though....and I have no idea why that is. I just seem to remember a lot of people were of that opinion though. Anyway, it never seemed a particularly convincing argument at any rate, nor does it now.

Surely Garner / Levitt would be better options in the middle, what with them being actual midfielders.

Shame about his injuries as Timbo looked good early doors. I think as a centre-half he could still carve out a decent career for himself, but I doubt if it'll be here.

It is utter stupidity.

I think he should be given a chance at DM for no other reason that he is a bigger, faster, stronger Kante. Let him out athlete everyone and let the creators (not like we have any) do their thing in front of him.

I just read an interview he did on MUFC and he said he is feeling good but reckons he needs a few games at u23 level to get his fitness up.
I watched a few games he played at Palace when he was there and he was impressive but he does pick up a few injuries. A game against City comes to mind and he did very well against Sane and he is a top player.
This could be the chance for Timbo to show Ole he has what it takes to be a Utd player and he does seem to love the club so I hope it all goes well for him and he can stay injury free.

Good question. I was asking the same question about Matic, during the Arsenal game. He may be slow, old, out-of-form, lazy, but not sure how did he manage to forget proper positioning, given that he was good once upon a time, but apparently it's a thing. Plus Matic has had his whole career to turn his skills into instincts, which TFM has not.

I am very surprised by Ole's statement that TFM is a midfield option. Can't see any way how TFM can come into our midfield and do anywhere close to acceptable job.

It probably means we won't be buying a midfielder this month. TFM will be this midfielder *sigh*

Right, we got TFM and considering Ethan Hamilton is also returning (https://www.southendunited.co.uk/news/2020/january/midfielder-returns-to-manchester-united/) we should be totally copacetic in the midfield :D

I would love to have Ole's chill. How can he keep his cool  If I were currently United manager and were told that I am not getting any new midfielders, my panicked screams would be heard from Lahaina, HI all the way to Thessaloniki, GR, and I mean traveling both ways around the globe.

It'd be easy. He gets paid good money to basically toe the line.

I didn’t say he’d forget , but seeing as he’s rarely played there, I’ve a feeling he doesn’t even know how to play there never mind forget .
Ya he’s surprise us in a really really bad way. He’s a defender end of and I don’t really think he’s good enough in that position.

I’d like to see him as a DM. Let others do the creating and he can chase and win the ball back

He’s got all the raw materials IMO. Just needs to stay fit, get a run of games and start showing his talent on the field. I think there’s more chance of him making it yet that Chong or Gomes. He’s just turned 22 so we can afford to at least give him another 18 months to make an impression

I still retain faith in him. He was excellent under Van Gaal, and was very good at Palace too. Fulham was a disaster, but I don’t think there’s any rush to throw a 21 year old away. He has some outstanding qualities. He’s big, strong and rapid for a start. He’s also a top tackler. He can also carry the ball well at speed. The challenge for him is if he can harness that into a useful role in men’s football.

I feel pretty exited about seeing Mensah back. For once, Ole is actually right when saying it´s like a new signing. For him, it sure is.

Decent little run for the U23s

Bailly

Misses the header and then does an overhead kick.

If he can replace Lindelof that would fun. Probably the same amount of missed headers but we'd get two footed tackles, circus acrobatic tackling and all that other crazy fun.

With all his physical attributes if Carrick can communicate the art of midfield play through to him we would have some player on our hands.
