I don't need to rewatch the games. I never said he was WC. There has never been a team in history with WC players at every position. He was a great player, who was an absolute leader. We miss someone like him these days.

But you probably think Smalling, who can't pass worth a shit, is better because he's fast.
I suggest you do cause it changes you perspective. It surely did to me. The EPL had improved greatly since then. The times when some average player/flop/washed up player from the Serie A could come and beat the crap out of EPL defenders are long over. The likes of Bruce wouldn't make it at top level now

Obviously we're comparing apples and oranges. However, for his era he was a fantastic player, and a leader. If Maguire was to reach half that level in this era, in my opinion, it'd be money well spent.

George Best probably wouldn't be one of the best players in the world in this era either.

Why lie? Palace initially asked for 70m, we paid 55m. Leicester asked for 90m, we paid 80m. That's 25m saved by haggling.
My recollection was the prices we paid were the ones initially mooted and the clubs put the prices up to get us back to what they wanted. As for the not lying part, I assume you were part of the negotiations so can definitely say the figures you quoted were gospel and not paper talk? I mean, if you’re going to accuse somebody of lying you’d have to be pretty certain of what you’re saying... right?

He was great in the EPL in that era although the likes of Baresi, Bergomi, Vierchowood and Co would eat him from breakfast but he wasn't WC. Same with Maguire.

Best would be WC in any era

I don’t think it said Andreas did it? I thought it was referring to our young Portuguese keeper
A Bola: #SportingCP Andreas Pereira could come via loan as part of deal for Bruno Fernandes. The agreement is €70M. Sporting offered various players via loans. They are not interested in GK Pereira, since they have Max. Neither Rojo or Gomes generates much internal consensus.

Perhaps lie was the wrong word. You were incorrect though and you could easily have double checked before saying it. If you wanted to be accurate you would have been.

Also others have pointed out Palace also tried to get Zaha's sell on clause removed so the club did save quite a bit by haggling on the deals.

I stand corrected. I hadn’t seen that one amongst all the off topic guff. No way we will give AP away, as the other poster said we need depth

Yeah agreed. We're so light on midfielders, we'd be mad to let one go this window, even if he's not great.

Andreas just managed to string a few non terrible performances together, why exactly would we loan him out now? The only available backups at number 10 would be Lingard and Mata. Both have been worse than Pereira this season, who also seems to be the preferred option at the moment. Loaning him out makes no sense, might as well just pay in cash.

Is it wise to send Periera on loan though? We would still be one man short in midfield

Why are United haggling over Bruno when they went all sharpish for Wan Bissaka + Maguire at £130m? The logic is mind-boggling. Just pay the damn money, he is that good. Would be funny if Mourinho stole him from under their nose when Ed is dilly dallying.
Far from the truth. The AWB & Maguire sagas took way longer than this. We didn’t exactly cough up the £130M straight away. Took weeks of negotiating from what I remember. One minute it was on, next minute it was off vice versa.

This hasn’t even been a week and so far all the noises coming out of it are positive.

Think I'd rather let Lingard go instead of Periera based of performances this season. Lingard done nothing in a year for us. Periera offers a lot more based on this season.

Jesus loaning Pereira out and keeping Lingard/Mata would be just like us. Terrible decision when Bruno gets injured next month if we do sign him.

If they want a CB then maybe we can loan them Jones. Else we can still loan them Periera but we can a second midfielder either permanently or through loan (ex can)

And Palace wanted the Zaha clause removed which could have lost us big bucks.

We negotiated both deals pretty well in the end but it won’t stop people moaning. Looks like we played hardball with Sporting and called their bluff too.
Woodward is not the incompetent buffoon so many want to think . Our past transfers have been disasters because they were the players Moyes, LVG and Mourinho wanted. The mistake from Woody has been to have the same faith in those managers as we had in SAF. It seems that for the past couple of seasons this has changed and we do a lot more work before we go ahead with a buy.

At least they’re looking beyond the UK shores this time instead of constantly beating the “young hungry British talent” horse.

Fair enough, I don’t want to or care enough to get into an argument over this, and not with one of the more reasonable posters on here. Suffice to say I don’t think Ed is the best negotiator and I’m sceptical about his ability to save money. IMO we usually just end up delaying to our own detriment for no apparent benefit to ourselves, from what I take from the reports.

Wasn't they talking about Joel ?

Lingard is finished. It’s Pereira that will be displaced at 10. I’m not saying Bruno isn’t an upgrade on Pereira, but what we are really in dire need is an upgrade/replacement on Matic.
We need both.

Sorry if I was a little bit accusatory there. I felt a lot of unnecessary fuss was made over how long the summer deals took. All of the new players were ready for the opening game and the club at least didn't show themselves to be as much of a soft touch as they had in previous windows where they seem to just pay whatever was asked. It seemed like just a lame excuse to have a go at Ed.

I'm definitely in agreement with you on this transfer because this window is in the middle of the season and we badly need a midfielder right now. Bruno could have been at Carrington on Jan 1st if Ed was on top of things. And I could easily see him delaying it to the end of the window for the sake of 5m while we take lumps from Liverpool and City over the next couple of weeks. It's time to just get it done.
