Did anyone get to the bottom of why he was on a Eurostar today, there was something earlier about a meeting to do with Brugge around the logistics of that match.

Would love to think this is about Soumare or that he's going to meet the Atletico CEO about Saul, however this is Woody and it's much more likely he has just gone to France shopping.
Ed does not go and negotiate players. I believe it's Matt Judge whose responsible for tying up the deals. The guy is just terrible at negotiating. But I do like the sound of Soumare joining us this window. Also, Eriksen joining Inter spells the end of any possible deal for Sanchez joining Inter which means we're stuck with Sanchez and his wages.

Bruno, Soumare and Van De Beek would be great additions if Pogba leaves.

Was there any indication at all that Inter would continue with their Sanchez project? Seemed to go about as "well" as it did for us.

I do. I think this squad is better than the likes of Crystal Palace, Watford, West Ham, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Arsenal, all of which have battered us.
OK by that logic is it better than City and Leicester and as good as Liverpool?

If we had beaten all of those clubs (in the games we dropped points, such as Newcastle because we've beaten them) and maintained all of our results against the top 6 then we'd be second and extremely comfortably so. We'd be having an incredible season and pushing Liverpool for the title.

I ask again, is that honestly your expectation of this squad? We've been hit by injuries badly and have a young squad which is part way into a pretty big shakeup of playing staff.

I suspect you don't have a clue what you're talking about to be honest. It's your own flawed expectations that are causing your sort so much frustration.

I agree with your sentiment. But i also think that City and other clubs do business practically. They address the needs and if a player suits their profile and costs 100M they spend 100 million. In our case we go after everyone and spend high amount on players that don't exactly take us to the next level. Big difference there

Harry Maguire is a great example. is the the only ball playing Central Defender on the planet? could we have got other defenders who are quite as good as him for half the price? - Absolutely but we didn't and that's on us not the transfer market.
Not sure who City have spent 100 million on to be honest, I can't recall any off the top of my head...

Their squad is mainly containing players they spent big amounts on when big amounts were 40/50 million. They'll have to start replacing the likes of Aguero, Silva, Kompany, Fernandinho etc and it will be interesting to see who they get and for what prices.

Regarding Maguire, yes, I'm sure there are but I don't think we sat and thought 'need a ball playing defender, a ball playing one, hmmmm, who can play the ball...... Maguire!'.

Yea, he's comfortable on the ball which I'm sure was an important atreivute but his whole profile will have been a huge draw for us. Premier league experienced, English, great age, already knows the likes of Rashford and has good leadership qualities. When you're looking for a whole package and then throw in who clubs would be willing to sell, who wanted to come to us this past summer and you start to narrow down your options. We were clearly wanting Koulibaly for example, possibly still do but that deal just wasn't happening.

I believe the club when they say they're looking to build a culture and harmony within the squad. I don't know what you do for a living and if it involves managing teams of people but that's all I've done and I'm very, very good at it and that culture, team spirit/ethic and bond is huge. We've clearly not had that over the last 6 or so years. We've just looked like little pockets of cliques.

I don't feel many centre backs with all fo the qualities Maguire has and brings in were available to us in the Summer. He was all of the above and pretty risk free. We knew 80 million is crazy money but he wasn't likely to completely flop and struggle. Even if we went for someone from Europe at a lower cost, you start then increasing the risk of then struggling as well as possibly stripping back some of the above attributes that I feel we wanted.

Who would you have had instead? It certainly doesn't appear Harry was our absolute first choice and only player we wanted but we can't just buy players like some on here seem to think. They're human beings with lives and families, varying ambitions and motivations in their lives. Plenty of players simply wouldn't want to up and move to Manchester. Just to use Koulibaly again, he seems very settled over there. Even if Napoli accepted an offer, which it doesn't appear they did, its perfectly reasonable to accept that he would have preferred to stay. Unless Napoli wanted to force him out, what do you do in that situation? All the while the clock is ticking and you've spent time and resources negotiating with Napoli, possibly letting other targets go and possibly meaning you're having to hang fire on letting a player go whilst you line up a transfer.

I know from experience how easy it is to sit and be an expert on someone else's job when you don't actually have to do it. Everyone is an expert but funnily enough none of them work in football.... I wonder why?

I know this sounded cool in your head and all, but you don’t invest millions buying two new players, requested by your manager, to them move them the next year because the same manager is not happy and wants you to invest a potential recording breaking fee for another player in the same position, who isn’t even a clear improvement on what your currently have, all in the name of “backing the manager”. Are you on crack?

Again, Woodward is supposedly a lot of things, but “tight” is nowhere near the top
This actually happens quite a lot. A recent example being Jovic at Real after 6 months and 60 million euros.

Why do people like you have to be so vitriolic and venomous about players? What's wrong with you? What an embarrassment you are.
Phil Jones is shit, sorry.

Yeah I would be happy with those three but not ideal that Soumare was sent off in front of our scout and didn't have a great game in general.

Have just seen a tweet from a De Telegraaf journalist saying Utd are wasting their time trying to sign Van De Beek as he has decided to join Real in the summer.

Personally I would love us to break the bank for Saul in the summer because think he is class and amazingly still only 25. There is this £128m release clause but has been said they would let him go for £85m if he indicated a desire to leave.

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? I am not sure my response warranted such a snooty attitude ridden response. But i'll bite

First of all i said IF there as a 100M player that matched city's profile they would go and buy that player. Also they have spent wisely which is actually better

Yes Maguire is a decent buy but not worth 80M regardless of what you say his qualities are. Also we could have got him for 65 the previous season but hey at that time Maguire wasn't a good ball playing defender yet i guess!. Also you are saying that there is no one in the talent of maguire we could have got? what is the point of our world class 60+ scouts then?

You can be a world class manager of teams or whatever you manage, but we are not talking about personal achievements here so take that away from future conversations.

Again i am not sure why you are upset with my comments on Maguire? If i could identity and find players better than him then what is our management doing? we are fans and we see what is in front of us agreed but even you should see that our transfer business is shambles!

He’s declined massively, another Bailly without injuries strong, fast, and headless.

I wouldn’t even pay 40 for him.
I don't watch serie A, but why do people think when a player is declining, it means that said player will continue declining all the way downhill? I mean, we all know what the player is talented and what he is capable of, so sometimes it can be a good strategy to buy low on a player rather than paying astronomical fee when he is peaking.

Because in most cases its the way it is, Im trying to remember some player that declined and then went again to his peak but I fail to remember anyone besides Pirlo, I know its not impossible for a player to recover his form but in most cases they wont.

The transfer of Olivier Giroud (33) to Inter Milan is taking shape. According to Sky Sport Italia, the club is accelerating on the matter and is close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea. The amount of the transfer should amount to 4.5 million euros plus bonuses while the former Montpellier has only six months of contract with the Blues. He should sign a two and a half year lease with his new club where he will be coached by Antonio Conte, who already signed him at Chelsea in January 2018.

The hottest name remains that of Marash Kumbulla, defender of the 2000 class of Verona, already on the shortlist of great clubs, not only Italians. Yesterday Gianni Vitali, the player's agent, met with the management to take stock of the situation: Inter like him very much, also for his tactical flexibility and because he is already the leader of a three-man defense.

Kumbulla would therefore have no problem entering into the mechanisms of Conte and Verona and Inter already have a general agreement for his transfer in the summer: Verona want 20 million, but he would also like to immediately get Dimarco on loan as a down payment for June and perhaps to snatch the renewal of the Salcedo loan.

//

And yesterday at the venue we also saw Mohamed Sinouh, agent of Amrabat, the other jewel of Verona for whom Hellas already has an agreement with Naples. But the player takes time: Inter likes it but the priorities in the median remain other.

Sinouh also spoke of Tahith Chong, with a contract expiring which Juve also likes. Inter took information, then we'll see. From here to summer, strategies may change, but it is good to be ready for the coup.

Palmeiras confirmed that they are well advanced in negotiation for Matheus Fernandes (defensive midfielder, 21) with Barca.

Jones' mommy, come out - we have recognized you...

"Venomous"?! You kidding me? Firstly, we are talking about his performance, not his personality. He's a footballer and that's what people do - discuss their performance. Secondly, his performance has been atrocious so there is no other way to describe it. Thirdly, he is paid enormous amount for contributing nothing, so I am sure he is fine and isn't losing sleep for people calling out his form on some forum.

Try a little bit better next time or maybe drink some calming pills if mundane things give you anxiety attack? You are not supposed to attack and name-call your fellow posters but should express your opinions about their content. It's right there in the rules.

Very well put.

I have mates who have continuously said to me why did Manutd for go Maguire? De Ligt was available for £60m

These are people who think just because:

1. He went for £60m to Juve we could have got him. Incorrect because he did not want to come here.
2. He is young and is the best CB out there. Incorrect.

Maguire fit the profile of what we wanted in our CB, he has come in and become a leader, calmed the defence down and brought some kind of composure too.

Buying a CB from abroad is very difficult, not many come in and are an instant hit, they take a while to settle and for a big fee you never know what it will do to them, with Maguire it felt like a risk free move.

I give you De Ligt as an example, imagine paying £60m and £240k a week to a 19 year old defender who now struggles to get into the first team at Juve, it would have been another negative transfer.

If you look around Maguire is probably in one of the top 10 CB's in the world right now. There just isnt much option in the market for a ready made CB.

When you factor in De Ligt's reported wages the deal was a lot more expensive than Maguire.
