Ole played Pogba as a CM/DM this season, why would Bruno be Pogba’s replacement. Bruno is an upgrade of Pereira/Lingard and also supposed to be Mata’s replacement last summer, we couldn’t get Bruno in the summer so we extended Mata’s contract instead.
Bruno is being brought in to add the creativity and goals that Pogba is suposed to give us, he was only in that stupid double pivot role because Fred hadn't found his footing and Ole knows Matic is past his best. Basically instead of having another proper CM in the pivot we had a defensive #10 with Lingard and Pereira offering more off the ball than on it and allowing Pogba a bit of leeway to get forward, you can bet the CM we buy in the summer will be more of a basic type of CM than a Pogba type.

Yes, we are not City - we have more money than City... for now, but that won't last if we don't get our shit together.

And "competing for a spot" is an exaggeration. Pogba hasn't played all season and will probably end-up missing 2/3 of it. And he could be gone in the summer, so in reality - we may not actually have him. Not to mention that Pogba and Bruno are not necessarily playing the same position. Pogba can play most positions in midfield (except for DMF) but ideally you would have Pogba playing deeper alongside a good DMF, and Bruno playing further up. If you had a Kante-like superb DMF, it would make one kick-ass midfield.
Technically City have unlimited funds given their owners are invested in the clubs success, where as ours are about the bottom line. We have looked much more secure in midfield with Fred and McTominay in the double pivot, no matter who the DM is Pogba will always be a liability deeper, it's a waste of him as well.

He did last year for Villa last year in formation. And he still does it now when Villa are deeper and Grealish has to move the ball on from deeper areas - he goes on some really nice runs & in my opinion it's pretty much his main ability.

I don't even think Pogba will go to be honest - I don't think many clubs will want him, nor can afford his wages & it all could just fumble whilst he contemplates giving working with a new manager like Pochettino a go, that's if he ever really wanted to leave in the first place. Could be wrong though, never know.
Grealish in a double pivot? I just don't see that as feasible, him, McTominay or Fred and Bruno as a 3 man midfield.

Fully agree. Plus the improvement of rashford and Fred and emergence of Williams.
We have Mason Greenwood too, and Scot Mctominay has emerged as a good player. Axel has been injured and we have Henderson doing well in this league on loan.

these look like players that can really play, if still raw. I know everyone gets overexcited about youth players but these aren't your typical ‘looked good for ten minutes against macclesfield in the league cup’ youngters. Theyve all held their own for us. If we try and buy well scouted players and bring those lot through whilst continuing the trend of shipping out the deadwood we will be in good shape

Fred - Bruno and Pogba. No more excuses.
Well Pogba's injured till God knows when.
Bruno hasn't yet signed for us and I expect it to take several months for him to settle in.
Fred is actually doing okay.

I just feel that expectations need to be managed.
Some of you are thinking that he is a Messi/Ronaldo/Mbappe/Neymar type game changer, which he isn't.
He'll definitely be an upgrade on Lingard and Pereira, who are next to useless, but don't expect anything Earth shattering from him.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

I've only seen YouTube videos (when he does appear a more attacking midfielder) but read an article on him today (linked) which gives some thoughts on where he has played/maybe could play.

Apologies if already posted ... hard to keep up with the rate the thread pages are growing!

I think shaw is the veteran who’s going to push Williams for better or worse. I wouldn’t mind at all if shaw left at this stage. Does pogba party a lot? I thought he doesn’t drink?
Pogba doesn’t party at all, but nevermind.

Hope this crosses the finish line. Despite everything else, AWB, James, Maguire and Fernandes represent a positive upturn in recruitment in my opinion
According to many, our current squad is the worst it's been for several decades.

I'm sounding all doom and gloom in a transfer muppet thread, so i think I'll not say anything else. I don't want to be a killjoy at a time when there is very little to be joyous about.
Enjoy the muppetry gentleman and for Christ's sake, track those flights!!!

Having now gotten four first teamers we can only hope whatever he's trying to implement starts showing cos I haven't seen any such style if I'm being honest
I can definitely see your perspective. For me, I think his counter-attacking style is good and fits with our squad's level at the moment. There is a lot of time our attack was ruined because Lingard misses a pass, or miss control of the ball, or hiding somewhere. Perreira is better technically and mentally but he also is not good enough.

Now with a player that can actually contribute to our attack and also a hard-working type, I think the style will be much clearer. If only we can have Rashford right now...

Counter attack isn't really a style because its use is situational. That is unless we want to bait counter opportunities by sitting deep every game which as I recall is why we wanted the last manager sacked. Ole needs to have a sustainable playstyle thar makes us effective with the ball or we might as well just hire Allegri or Jose again. I think it's also a bit of a myth that it's our squad level holding Ole back from bursting out some super sophisticated playstyle

It's not how good Ronaldo and his predecessors were, it's how shite the subsequent 7's have been.
Indeed. There’s no curse on the shirt, the players we’ve been putting in it have just been rubbish.

In fairness, at least 2 of them (Depay and Alexis) looked much better before we purchased them and put them in the shirt. Even Valencia who had been a good player decided to wear 7 and his form fell off a cliff.
Something isn't right.

Seriously not a single correct flight tracking. The Caf has lost its touch.
Apparently it might not be available for tracking as it's a private plane and not all of them have that.

No excuse however, we should all be looking in the skies with telescopes to find and follow the plane.

Im glad its done, but dont feel all that buzzing about it. It was dragged out so long and became so frustrating, all the fun and excitement was sucked right out of it. And on top of that knowing its probably wont be enough.

I hope your right about a striker, maybe with a loan deal... but i think thats them done now until they sell pogba
Ronaldo was insane wasn't he. Hard shirt to live up to.
Noone was even half decent though. Valencia, Owen, Depay, Di Maria, Sanchez. All shit.

Ronaldo put a curse on it before he left. That's the only explanation.

Pretty much like nobody willing to pay what Liverpool paid for Sadio Mane back in the day.
Hopefully he is, if he can replicate half of his numbers here he’ll be a success.

Hopefully we have hit a true gem.

To be honest if you look at the legends who have worn it we should just retire the number, nobody will better them.

Would be great to see our best player in the no 7 again though.

Who is at the airport??? It’s been too long!

If they somehow have been able to sneak him in they are ruining all the fun!

I trust we had someone working at Manchester Airport here at Caf. Perhaps this person could check what private jet is expected to arrive from Lisbon today?

If Bruno can fire us into top 4 then he is worth every penny. Let's pray and hope that we start grinding out 1-0 victory.

It's a bit worrying, a Dassault Falcon 2000EX's range is over 4,000 miles, so it can easily fly Lisbon - Manchester direct. I wonder if we're following the right aircraft?
