As for the question in the title, I've always been 50/50 on Maddison and Grealish - even when people were criticising Grealish due to playing a lower division - but I'm of the opinion that Grealish is better now. His performances this season - even outside his stats - have been so impressive. I get vibes of Isco from his last season at Malaga where you just know he's ready to play at the highest level.
Feel he might be the one we end up regretting not going all out for. To be honest I'm fatigued by attacking midfielders who rely on stats - Kagawa, Mata etc What we finally needed was one with the close control to be impossible to get off the ball. The type every top but us seems to have.

Same, mate! Not only are they just lovely players to watch, they're key if you want to be the type of team who dominates and inflicts your football on the opposition, which is the type of team I'd love us to become. Obviously the most important ingredient is a manger who can properly coach his team to play a cohesive game that doesn't mainly rely on individuals, but said type of player is a very important topping on the base of the pizza, too.

We're going to end up paying what we get for Pogba to get either Grealish or Madisson, and the other side might actually ask for a left testicle to sweeten the deal
Suare, not much we can do about that though. Wonder how much it costs to courier a testicle, and how border control will look at it

We can't replace Pogba with equal individual quality but if we get one of those two and they end up being the right fit, then I'm all for it.

Not certain of the exact amount but i do believe it's cheaper to courier the right one rather than the left. Just something to consider

Is that with the realism of who you think we can acquire applied, or overall, with no restrictions (within reason) in place?
With realism I think - In terms of someone definitely gettable, that would come here and that we could do a deal for fairly efficiently.

No restrictions... probably Timo Werner (not sure he'd come here though?) or Sancho (which I imagine will be a long drawn out deal)... though Grealish would be up there to be fair. I think he's superb.

Grealish has spent most of this season playing in the same position asmarcus rashford. If his two best poaitions are covered by him and fernandes assuming we get him, then isn't he the wrong player for us at the wrong time?

I think Grealish would do better than Maddison in a B2B position, whilst Maddison would do better in a #10 position. Voted Grealish here though, cause he has got the edge. Unless they relegate i don't think he's leaving though, last time they relegated he stayed even though he was wanted by several PL clubs, if i remember correctly.

Maddison is younger and IMO the better player all things considered. Grealish has a higher ceiling though, but remains to be seen whether he will fulfill his potential.

Grealish is better imo, but the issue is fitting them all in.

I wouldn’t play either deep in the 4231 we currently play, and you’d assume Bruno is going to play at #10 and Rashford off the left.

In a 433 it’s a bit easier, but we don’t really have a proper #6 apart from Matic.

Both terrific players and I'd be delighted to see either of them in the Red shirt, having said that, I have been impressed with the attitude of Grealish, he has really shown that he has the 'bit between his teeth' when the going gets tough.

I prefer Grealish, got a bit of magic about him. Would love to see him at United and think he’d be a success.

The poll asks "who is better?"

And to that, I would answer James Maddison.

But who's better for us? Who would I rather sign this Summer?

Grealish.

I probably havent seen enough of either to be sure, but Grealish appears to be someone who can run the show. Seems to be very hard to knock off the ball and I think against packed defences (our biggest weaknesses), players like him would be the key.

Thing is, if we sign Grealish he will take Rashford's position on the left attacking side.

Realistically, if we have Bruno as CAM, with Pogba and Fred behind him, there's no place for him.

Might as well shift Bruno at RAM, Pogba Fred Grealish as CAM. That could work, I guess..?

Grealish all day long!

Maddison is a very good player but Grealish is far superior. Hes got it all. He works better in space and can run with the ball at defenders. Maddison is good in tight spaces with 1-2s but his passing range is limited compared to grealish.

The fact that Grealish can play wide, #10 and as an #8, he would be the better buy for us. Especially as weve now got Bruno!

With the Bruno news(and assuming Pogba is gone) how are we going to fit in Bruno and Grealish or Maddison in the team. And please don't say anything about them being bench options because they are all starting qualities
Do you see Fred starting over either?

Absolutely!

He's got that authority and confidence bordering on arrogance to be a United player. Work rate is phenomenal and can also play across all midfield positions. The problem is he's also been in trouble with the authorities and has a tendency to like his nightlife. This goes under the radar at Villa but could be a problem with United being a lot more high profile. Maddison is mostly a number 10 and with the purchase of Bruno, he'll probably not be needed.

I second that fully. All I could add is that I’m slightly worried about cockiness of Grealish and his attitude, which can be an issue especially in the period we are undergoing

Leicester will qualify for the CL meaning Maddison is virtually unobtainable.

Grealish would be a huge summer signing if we can land him.

Graelish is the Giggs to Maddison's Beckham

Graelish looks better, but i'm not sure he is. Both great players

Thanks for the clarification. Sentiments I echo in the sense of having him as a realistic target.

I think his story is not as yet concluded in relation to this season, however; he's improving by the month and raising more eyebrows than he was, which, in turn, is going to raise his value, suitors and potentially get him a place in the England squad.

Villa staying up would also be determinate of his summer value, which probably goes without saying.

If Bruno plays similarly to Beckham then it would work. It could change to a 4-2-2-2 in attack. Grealish and Bruno as the left and right attacking midfielders in front of Fred and Pogba with Martial and Rashford as strikers.

Looks like a title challenging midfield if all the players play to their expectations. I'm just certain Pogba is going though and I just want an actual right winger for once

Bonkers comparison but Grealish somewhat reminds me of Cantona with the way he plays.

Grealish reminds me of Joe Cole whereas Maddison plays more like the attacking midfielder Gerrard. That said, I'm not sure whether can they make it to the very top and stay there.

Personally, I think Grealish has the more versatile and valuable skillset. Maddison seems to only thrive in that specific Leicester set up. Grealish's best position will probably be that LCM position, similar to Pogba and Isco.

At the minute, I'd prefer Grealish. He's got so much composure on the ball and can make the sort of killer pass United have been missing.

If Villa go down, I expect a few clubs to be in for him.

Don’t think there’s much between them.

We’ll get rinsed for Maddison in the same manner as Maguire, and then he’ll just never be able to live up to expectations from the price tag.

Grealish is much more attainable for a lower price, even if Villa stay up.

Hopefully Pogba will finally be gone which can fund the transfer, me thinks that’s why we’ve got Fernandes now as we know the Pogba money is coming in Summer.

I would have said Maddison at the start of the season, but have been seriously impressed with Grealish as the season has gone on, to the point where I think Grealish is now ahead. Maddison does look a little limited to his set position in this Leicester team - that may be well wide of the mark and only based on the little I have seen of him.

Just on the eye test I think Maddison’s the better player but something about Grealish’s character reminds me of classic United, I think SAF would’ve taken him in a heartbeat.

I think both are a bit overrated - definitely good players and at least rotational players on a top side, but its not clear to me that either is a player that you really want in the starting XI if you're a team looking to win the Premier League and/or go deep in the CL.

A lot of the issue is their profile - heavily right footed players that want the ball at their feet and are either going to play on the left wing or behind the striker. Its hard to get into top clubs with that profile because there are only really two spots at most (sometimes only one) that you fit in any tactical setup and the competition among players with that profile at top clubs is pretty fierce.

I feel like Grealish has a more well rounded skill set and so you could see him adding some more versatility to his game as he matures (playing a bit deeper or being able to do more things in the buildup). So I'd probably pick him in a vacuum.

For United, I don't think you can comfortably fit Rashford, Bruno, and either of them into the same starting XI without resorting to some kind of fantasy football alignment. Competition for places is a good thing so that wouldn't dissuade me from buying one of them. But this isn't really the profile that United needs in the starting XI assuming that Bruno comes. You really need a left footed playmaker who can cut in from the right side, a la Mahrez or Bernardo Silva, or a right wide forward that is a direct goal threat, much more than either Grealish or Maddison. Of course, players like that are harder to find.

Difficult question. To be honest I didn't see so many games from Grealish (at least in the PL) that I can say how good he looks to me. I am a big fan of Maddison. How he controls and dictates the speed of the game is a joy to watch. His dead ball skills and crosses are great and boy can he shoot.

At the end of the day I would be happy to get in either of them. If we are finishing outside the top 4 Grealish is maybe more realistic.

On second thought, Grealish's numbers are better than Maddison's this season, and he plays for a far worse club.

I'd prefer Grealish and voted accordingly.

Then I saw the results and figured we're all fecking idiots and the club should go for Maddison.

Don't really rate either if Im honest. I think both will end up being Rodwell or Schneiderlin level players.
