I quite honestly can't comprehend how a man can pretend to live with a woman while knowing his preference is towards men and not loose his mind in the process. I mean, I can't think of a straight bloke who'd go about his life with a same sex partner for even a week.

That's what I don't get, he doesn't say in the announcement that they are splitting just that he is gay.

Gay, rather than Bi, suggests he's never been sexually attracted to women and therefore his love for his wife has always been platonic and their relationship is no longer or has never been romantic. It also suggests that he would rather be in a relationship with a man.

If he still loves her and intends to stay with her, it's an absolutely horrible position to drop her into publicly.

Obviously it's his personal choice and no business of mine but this just feels like a classic This Morning sensational moment that could have been handled better. Could he not have protected her dignity a bit more after 27 years of marriage framed it in a slightly more flattering way for her?

Call me naive here, but if he has always been attracted to men then how was he getting aroused for sex with his wife? Surely they can't of just had intercourse when it came time to conceive, and would that not of set off alarm bells for the wife if that was the case.

Werid one though. Though no unheard of. I personally know someone who's father went through this, and another person who's mother did. One was a lot less messy and supported than the other. The messy one involved more country type people so I don't think they could really understand it.

Yeah, it happens. My aunt has a daughter in her mid 30s and came out about 10 years ago when her daughter was about the same age that Schofield's daughters are. It wasn't a surprise to the family when she came out, though as we kinda knew.

That's good. It's nice that it happened naturally too. In one of the cases I know of, the son found texts on his father's phone that made it quite obvious. Not sure why he was looking but he took it to his siblings (between 20-30) and decided whether to tell their mother. In the end I think they sat on it for a whole before making the father come clean himself. Sounded horrendously messy.

Strictly speaking but it seems 'gay' is used for men that want to be in deep emotional relationships with other men. Freddie Mercury was the same in that he slept with lots of women but wanted to be with a man so was known as being 'gay'.

Being a gay children's tv presenter was a no-no back in the 80s and 90s. Wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that he made a conscious effort to try settle down for the good of his career. Sad if that is the case.
