I've had a feeling that Palace are going to do them for a few weeks now. Everyone will be focusing on the City game but Palace will rock up and pull the curtain down while they're setting up for the main event.
Surely Everton will finally beat their rivals? You'd think it is bound to happen.

Still, Chelsea in the cup, Atletico in Europe. Two weeks can change everything. ;)

Hope I'm wrong but I fully expect us to get knocked out of both competitions in the next 2 weeks. That said, after 30 years and a European Cup last season, I'll settle for 'just' the league this year.

From a Liverpool perspective, I must say I would much rather beat City's 100 points record than going unbeaten if I had to chose despite the whole media frenzy about the unbeaten record. The highest points tally is the single best indicator of the best ever PL season as much as I am concerned.

Honest question. If the record gets broken, what meaningful and desirable record would Arsenal have left?
Fewest losses in a season, fewest away losses in a season, most consecutive away games without a loss, fewest failures to score in a season, most consecutive matches scored in, longest tenured manager.

Meaningful / desireable is in the eye of the beholder.

Bestest ever winning of the league ever at all.

The 49th game is at City and I think we’ll have it won by then, so we’ll lose there imo.

Paisley's Liverpool got voted as the greatest English team ever, even better than any SAF team on Sky. What are you guys' opinions on that?

His teams won a lot in a short period. 6 leagues, 3 European Cups, and a Uefa cup in 9 years. Of those 4 wins in Europe 3 were on the trot. Best team in the world at the time.

Liverpool always win those kind of polls, their fans love 'em. Always have. So it means very little. Maybe now they're good again, they'll stop caring about that sort of thing.

As one of the biggest Liverpool haters, can't really complain. Those Liverpool teams in the 80s made my childhood a misery, but they talked the talked and walked the walk. The European domination in that era was unprecedented by them.

Wasn't actually a poll/vote it was more using points for certain trophies i.e 5 for European Cup/Champions League, 4 for Div 1/Prem etc etc for teams over a 3 year period.

Rightly or wrongly it was given to Liverpool.

It wasn't a poll it was awarded from a cumulated points tally for their trophy haul over 3 seasons on MNF. Fergies 2006-2009 United team came 2nd just 2 points behind.

Oh right assumed it was a fan vote thingy.

Think unfortunate that Utd's team at the time just came up short on the points system as it was the same era as the great Barca team so never really dominated Europe.

It wasn't voted by fans but voted by Carragher and Neville based on 5 points for European Cup/CL, 4 points for League title, 3 points for UEFA Cup, 2 points for FA Cup, 1 points for all other cups, 2 points for European Cup runner up and 1 points for League runner up.

Wasn't around to see them but you can't argue with that record. Our three greatest teams in the PL era were amazing but all have just a slight blotch on their record if we're talking about being the very best, e.g

94 team was hampered a bit by the foreigner rule and was inexperienced in Europe. It also was broken up pretty quickly after it's success.
99 team achieved the greatest feat in English football but couldn't conquer Europe again
08 team had the misfortune of coming against possibly the greatest club side of all time in that Barca team.

If you beat Chelsea in the FA cup the earliest you can win it is vs City as you'll have a game postponed beforehand. If you lose to Chelsea you can win it vs Palace assuming you keep winning of course.

Yeah but I think City will drop points in at least one of their next three games, two of which are away to United & Chelsea.

They could do but I doubt they will. They always beat us at OT and we seem to do better at the Etihad. Very strange.

Chelsea perhaps? Doubt it. Weren't impressed by them at all the other night. City will see them off.

Big myth about Utd not dominating Europe due to that great Barcalona team.
2008. Won CL
2009. Runner up CL (a game which Utd were favourites for and barca scoring a last min goal in the semi against Chelsea, who were denied 3 clear penalities).
2010. Inter beat Bayen in Final.
2011. This was probably the only year where this Myth comes from.
2012. Chelsea beat bayen in final.

Don’t think United was the same team in 2010 that they were in 2007. To think that they still managed to win a couple of leagues more and lost once on a single point and once on goal diff says a lot.

That game against LVGs Bayern was insane. We should have advanced that night no doubt about it.

I think you'll be in better shape by then. McTominay back and Fernandes playing will help. I think City have another loss in them. They still look unsure at the back imo and United can exploit that.

I think you're probably right about Chelsea.

Yes, it was the winning mentality instilled by Ferguson - the league was also on its way down at that stage, essentially following the departure of Ronaldo, Alonso and Mascherano to Spain - of course new talent had come in (Aguero, Silva etc) but were yet to truly establish themselves. Chelsea had their first and last hurrah (at least on a European scale), Arsenal were rapidly declining, and we wouldnt be relevant again for years till Klopp showed up (save for Luis Suarez).

But his point was that it wasn’t just because of Barcelona...the two years you made the final, it happened to be against Barca. What about the other years?
It’s not as if the Chelsea win had you dominating them in the final either.

More just a point that it was probably the best United side of all time, and definitely the one that performed the best on the European stage consistently, but it didn’t “dominate” Europe

I do rate that United side highly though - prior to this Liverpool one, had it as the best team in the last 30 years in England.

City love doing as at OT, much like we like beating them at their place, even if we're in good form, wouldn't be at all shocked if we shit the bed and they win.

I made my post to tell you the criteria. Learn to read more.
 so did other people, on this very page literally only a few posts above yours, hence my point about reading the thread a bit more babes.

They didn't mention all of the points/criteria. Are you illiterate? I was the one who posted the question in the first place as well.

Good riddance dude. I don't wanna get banned because of someone's illiteracy

Wasn’t that when the European cup had about 4 teams in it with 2 of those being from belgrade?

Would love to do the league double over them. They'd hate that. Also won one of leg of the semi final too. If we beat them 3 times in one season considering the gap in quality then that would be funny.

Think City will beat them when it comes around. Possibly Arsenal too for the only reason they will be well up for it If the unbeaten season is still on for them

Found out against Atletico at Anfield though when they play a half decent side ;)
None of this current Arsenal lot are in any way related to the invincibles. In fact, I'm not sure any of them will have even played with an invincible.

Not sure they'll actually care

Personally i think the only european sides that belong in a best ever discussion pre-bosman are ajax and milan - and that largely because they fundamentally changed the sport

Can you imagine if the Coronavirus shut down the remaining games. It’s looking like it might happen in Italy. Would that make you happy?
