I’ve been saying all season the foundations are there we just needed a creative midfielder and a forward

If we can add another two quality players in the Summer, potentially make Ighalo permanent for backup and sign a couple of young players we start to look like top 3 material

Right now we're alright. If we had Rashford and Martial injury free then we'd be better than quite good. All the parts of a proper competitive team are in the squad now but we can't get it all on the pitch.

Everton away, City home and Spurs away.

9 points or we're still shit???
Are these our next 3 PL fixtures? It’s going to be really tough especially without Rashford in the team.

Everton away and Spurs away are going to be teams that sit deep and hit us on the counter. We need some Bruno magic to win these games. City at home is a game which I’m not even gonna consider. The last time we won at home against them was in LVG’s first season.

I’ll be happy with 4-6 points.

We've looked good against the better teams, but our weakness has been against weaker opposition who sit back. Since Bruno has come in, we have beat two such teams with an aggregate score of 8-0. I think the difference is (besides getting some players back from injury) a class midfielder who can link the play up and create chances. Lets see how we do against everton, expecting a tough game.

When we get our first team players back then yes, we play a very good brand of football.

This is the happiest I've felt about the club since Ferguson retired. Easily the happiest.

How do we define good? If this were said after the Chelsea game, I'd still accept it. But beating a 10-men Club Brugge in a competition we don't want to be in can't tell us if we're good or not.

If we go a league run winning 6-8 in a row or winning 8 out of 10 games or something like that, we can still say something like that. Anything else is too presumptuous and might well be categorized as one of the numerous false dawns we've had post-Fergie.

Sorry of being the negative bum. But someone had to say this.

The squad still need’s three to four quality signings to compete against the best. May not get all during the summer at lot will depend on how much the club receives from the sale of Pogba, assuming he leaves, and whether we receive fees for some of the other players likely to depart.

I'd say this mini run we are on can be classified as good. Let's not get carried away and assume we are suddenly a WC side but the signs are good.

Failure to see positives after such obvious advances is being defeatist, not negative.

Injuries have really hurt us this season.

Feels like we never get the chance to put our best 11 out. Even when we get players back someone else gets hurt.
agreed. I want to see what we do if we have a run of games with a fully fit side. I reckon we would be higher up the table if not for the injuries.

Not enough time to fork out another 50 million plus signing. Or maybe we're not Manchester City with infinite amount of cash.

I don't know, but my theory is maybe the initial transfer budget was 150 million pounds. That's been used for James, Maguire and AWB.

Another 60-70 million pounds are expected to come from Lukaku sale.

We simply didn't have enough time.

Maybe Bruno thought the deal was done in the summer, but left disappointed and kept playing for sporting with less enthusiasm, hence his sub par output.

Made sense if you think about it.
What sub par output? Iirc he had 8 goals and 7 assists in 15 games for Sporting CP?

I don't know lads. I'm a pessimist at heart, however I'm confident we're heading in the right direction and our performances have progressively been getting better. I believe we're starting to see what the squad is capable of even if lacking consistency.

It's not to say we've had some shocking performances. We've been poor at times, but we're a young team (a handful even integrating in their first season) that has suffered injuries to key positions/players and one which has been trimmed of any deadweight leaving us stretched. However, we've played some really nice football at times - passing, staying composed and playing out from the back, pressing/forcing errors and capitalising. Plus our counter attacking football has been incredibly slick and effective at times. The new signings are all gelling well, Rashford who has been brilliant will also be due back and be a huge boost. Pogba is also missed (however you feel toward him, he is a brilliant player that offers something) and will bring his creativity and added squad depth OR a big transfer fee that we can spend on the squad.

I feel the chemistry is better too which shouldn't be underestimated. I've seen many people say they feel more attached to the current squad than in the last few seasons. I agree, I feel morale is high and there seems to be a better sense of camaraderie. I think this directly affects the team hunger, willingness to play for the badge/each other and desire to work toward consistent performances. The team feels like it's in more of a 're-build' phase now than under Moyes, LVG, Mourinho. I can deal with a few poor performances if the big picture is still the target.

But with all this doom and gloom, "It's only Brugge", maybe they're just red-tinted glasses eh?

Far from what he managed to perform last year?
No?

Yes but not every season should be compared to your standout one. I'd say 1 goal contribution/match is not sub-par. Also not a lot of difference between the 2 seasons in terms of output.

The results at home against the lesser sides are just so frustrating. Burnley, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Wolves, Everton. If we had won those games that's an extra 10 points. Then you're looking at away games like West Ham, Newcastle, SHU, Bournemouth.

If we were more consistent, had a fully fit squad all season and bought Bruno in the summer then we could be looking at a very different season, possibly neck and neck with City for second spot.

A lot of ifs and buts, but with 2/3 more top acquisitions in the summer and maybe we are looking capable of a title challenge again if we can manage to also keep Pogba and get him back to his best. Rashford, Bruno, Pogba and a new attacker. Is that enough world class players to win a title?

Hold your horses mate. Titles come with consistency not just quality. Quality is increasing bit by bit but we need to beat one of the 2 dominant teams of the past decade to win the title (City set records with title win and Liverpool will do so this season). I'd say we need one more season to challenge.

We have been unlucky with injuries but nonetheless. We need atleast 3 more signings to begin looking at title hopes.

I think a thread like this should probably have been reserved for after the Everton game but there's no denying that we're a better team to watch now with Bruno and the likes of Fred, Shaw, Martial hitting a bit of form. My biggest gripe with Ole hasn't been the results (although they've largely been poor), it's the awful, sleep inducing football we've played. I think if he shows, on a consistent level, that he can get the team playing good football, he'll be in a much better position.

We're better. That's not the same as good. It was a team from Belgium after all. But definitely a step in the right direction.

A few good results, some better football and a good signing in Bruno. Yes, I've got a good feeling just now. If it's still there at the end of the season then I'll start to believe in Ole.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
10 Lingard’s from Belgium
Lingard would be their best player. I'm not getting carried away, we've got a decent squad, better than its shown over the last year. Still have absolutely no faith in Ole in the long run.

This might actually be the first part of my prediction where I said I think we'll improve the squad, start playing a bit better, keep Ole, but always be the nearly men who just didn't have the coach to navigate to titles. Perhaps like Rodgers at Liverpool.

Ashley Young, Andreas Perreira and Jesse Lingard not influencing games and we wonder why we are doing better.

Looking over my shoulder.
I think we looked really good before the sending off (why did VAR have to review that one - I used to be a goalie, and I would've been proud of that save). We played with intensity, belief in ourselves, and Bruno just oozes class. He elevates Mata to old levels. Second half was about preserving energy.

Bruno is very very good and lifted the rest - when he goes off we start to look a bit like a mid table team again. Hope he stays fit. And then we have a chance of 4th. Cant wait to see Rashford feeding of Bruno.

Yeah it's true, was great to watch Mata looking like he felt he was in the game playing alongside Bruno. Finally got somebody trying to play the same game as him. About 7 years too late really but hey, better late than never. Even with Herrera and Pogba it was only glimpses of the kind of football Mata likes, Bruno is on that wavelength though.

Fernandes looks like an excellent addition and has made a difference. However, we are on course for our worst ever points total in the Premier League - a points total that would ordinarily see you finish about 8th - while playing stodgy, counterattacking football. We are not a good side.

We are definitely not as bad as some have made out this season. If we kept Pogba and signed a quality right winger then we'd be a very good team in my opinion.

We have been inconsistent, but that is bound to happen, with all our injuries. We have had almost no midfield for most of the season, and we have been with out Martial or Radford for major part of the season, even Shaw was out for a while.

We have a strong first 11, but the squad is weak. Either they are very young, or just not good enough.

Winning titles.

Don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy about the recent developments and the way the team has played. But there is still a big possibility that the next 3 league games can kill our top 4 challenge. And before saying that we're quite good, let's at least break into the top 4, let alone being a consistent part of it.

If I had to put it, I'd say we've actually improved which is an actual fact. While saying we're quite good is a relative term both in terms of our previous glories as well as the benchmarks set by our competitors; Both of which we're significantly falling short of.

Why cant the recent wins over City and Chelsea show where we are? Seems like people are always looking for the next slip up to cast judgement.

We are getting better. It's clear to see. Doesnt mean we are going to start pulverising teams every week. City are still better and will probably beat us.
This x 100.

I keep saying to myself,

'its not their fault that the miserable groups brains dont help them, its what they were born with"

But then find anger creeping in when they start pushing their agendas in the manner they do.

Change bloomin team and let the real supporters support !

Nobody is saying we were good all season? Its a steady improvement.
