I don't know lads. I'm a pessimist at heart, however I'm confident we're heading in the right direction and our performances have progressively been getting better. I believe we're starting to see what the squad is capable of even if lacking consistency.
It's not to say we've had some shocking performances. We've been poor at times, but we're a young team (a handful even integrating in their first season) that has suffered injuries to key positions/players and one which has been trimmed of any deadweight leaving us stretched. However, we've played some really nice football at times - passing, staying composed and playing out from the back, pressing/forcing errors and capitalising. Plus our counter attacking football has been incredibly slick and effective at times. The new signings are all gelling well, Rashford who has been brilliant will also be due back and be a huge boost. Pogba is also missed (however you feel toward him, he is a brilliant player that offers something) and will bring his creativity and added squad depth OR a big transfer fee that we can spend on the squad.
I feel the chemistry is better too which shouldn't be underestimated. I've seen many people say they feel more attached to the current squad than in the last few seasons. I agree, I feel morale is high and there seems to be a better sense of camaraderie. I think this directly affects the team hunger, willingness to play for the badge/each other and desire to work toward consistent performances. The team feels like it's in more of a 're-build' phase now than under Moyes, LVG, Mourinho. I can deal with a few poor performances if the big picture is still the target.
But with all this doom and gloom, "It's only Brugge", maybe they're just red-tinted glasses eh?
