Am really curious how the Biden campaign chose to deal with this one. I mean, if it had been me, and Hillary's people had called all keen on endorsing Biden, I'd of been a bit more "Yeah, no that's wonderful, Joe's over the moon really is. But this week is bad for us. And next week we've got that thing. Then we're into some really big announcements, so how about this - we'll add her as a blog post on the website. Great, okay, thanks bye."

The lack of self-awareness of Clinton is staggering. We're only in this mess because you somehow failed to be even remotely relatable or likeable as a candidate.

Let's hope Trump suspends the election so Joe can get busted for this and the dems give it Bernie till the end of the season.

She's not just backing the horse. She's hoping to ride it into a VP job.
I think she has higher ambitions than that...

I mean if a few more allegations come out and Biden has to step back and shes the VP pick think its likely the DNC pick her as the candidate

Or you could go full Clinton body count conspiracy and that could be another route but I dont think VP would be an end to her ambition

This isn't likely. She has no political experience beyond being a Lt Gov. The Dems generally go for people who have paid their dues within the party over the years.

The DNC would be mad to pick a candidate who wasn't even a candidate. It would piss off many of the supporters of.... well, the candidates.

Equally they would be mad to pick a candidate who proved they were not even popular within the party...

For sure they wouldn't Pick Bernie on the basis that if hes too far to the left to win the democratic nomination then hes got no viable path in the general election... and I think clinton would probably stand as much chance if not more than warren or kamala or mayor pete for example

Literally every candidate has more proof of popularity within the party than Abrams. You're talking about democracy here, but it would make a mockery out of democracy if they were to run a whole process, and then go ahead and pick someone who didn't even join the process to begin with. Beto O'Rourke has a better claim than Abrams does. So does Mary Williamson. Everyone does.

For sure they wouldn't Pick Bernie on the basis that if hes too far to the left to win the democratic nomination then hes got no viable path in the general election
This logic is okay when it comes to Biden. But beyond Biden, every other candidate has proven they're far too X to win the democratic nomination to a much greater degree than Sanders. Being centrist isn't the only qualifying factor here. Unlike Republicans, Democrats value serious political experience highly, which Abrams does not have. She could get around that if she had taken part in the nomination process and proven that she was a viable candidate, but she didn't, so she hasn't.

Abrams is more hype than actual popularity.

Typically the candidate wouldn't be announced til June - so we still have some time. I'm all for a different candidate, but it needs to get done soon. And have a pretty good reason - millions of people did vote for Joe Biden, despite his mental shortcomings, gaffs and so forth. As has been discussed to date on here, this specific allegation is - in my somewhat researched opinion - not robust enough in of itself to warrant dismissing Biden.

I honestly feel that if an accusation about just about anything came about Biden, there are segments on both sides that would be seizing upon it with just as much glee as 'her emails' - because people kind of suck.

Yeah, and for the record Abrams would never be the candidate. That's lunacy.

This feels a bit iffy. An accusation didn't come about anything, it came about rape. Drawing the line from that to "her emails" because people kind of suck is not really on.

100%. Same goes for if it happened to Trump or anyone else in any situation where one side seeks to wield political power over another. The morality of the alleged incident is merely a device for subterfuge to bring down a political opponent.

Biden has a chance but if he picks Clinton it's gone. Not only wood most of Bernie supporters would turn off but the reason why Clinton didn't get elected was most people in those swing states don't like her. It would be the biggest mistake Biden would make.
He should forget about the female VP and chose Bernie and it would be a waltz for him to be the President.

For me that's why it's such a dangerous accusation, and should be further investigated accordingly.

Trump's team only work on the offensive - Trump is only electable if the other candidate is brought down to his (disgusting, shameful, abhorrent) level. This accusation is already being used that way. And in many ways the damage is done - Reade could come out tomorrow and say it never happened and Trump and his supporters (and a shocking number of 'democrats') will forever now call Biden a rapist.

Again, that's why I we need to properly weigh the evidence on these things, rather than rush to judgement in either direction.

Finally, I honestly believe if the Reade case weren't in the news, we'd be hearing a lot more about Hunter and the Ukraine. Or maybe it was China. Or maybe Russia. Whatever, Biden's corrupt.

Unlikely given that Biden and Sanders have starkly different policy positions.

Its coming though - once CV19 stops dominating the news cycle there will be a flow stories and no doubt tweets from trump
The Virus isn’t going to stop dominating the news for anytime soon, so it will be hard for any of these stories to gain any political traction.

Im not so sure - not in the next month perhaps but if there is no second peak I think it will not totally dominate the election though it will of course be one of the big factors... if there is s second peak starting in September / October then totally different media landscape

Agreed, in a way that will be the biggest threat to Trump - not the deaths or the suffering or even the economy - but his inability to hijack the news with whatever his daily insanity is.

one difference between biden and trump supporters is that biden supporters need to see themselves as the moral good guys, while maga ignore that totally.
There are plenty of MAGA folks who see themselves as the good guys who are battling to preserve American borders, identity, and culture. The only difference being that what they deem to be worthy pursuits are not recognized by anyone outside the right of center ecosystem.

ya, family values and morality and all. but i felt that the majority of trump supporters would rather respond with a "feck you" rather than something convoluted.

also i might be mistaken but wasnt this in the 2020 thread?

the democratic campaign plan is absolute genius. they're going to stay as quiet as possible while highlighting all the crazy things Trump says by putting him on live TV 24/7 until election day

why did no one think of this in 2016

To be honest, I honestly don't believe he can survive the rigours of a presidential campaign process. I think he'll breakdown.

To be fair, I dount if even Sanders would have reversed it. Sanders said he would consider it but I am not sure if he would have.
