That looks about it for me too.
Away against a rival I think we’re playing 5 at the back Matic as the holding midfielder with Pogba and Bruno behind Rashford and Martial pulling wide into the channels.

Jose has had months tactically to prepare for this game. Team shape and how to exploit weaknesses of United. Practicing set pieces and individual duals ect. We must be drilled and ready, trying something like Pogba and Bruno is a risk. It could work but you should never doubt Jose's preparation. Might not be the smartest time to do this.
When we played against Spurs we didn't have Pogba and Bruno. He doesn't know how Ole will utilize them and even if he does a man marking job on one of them it will give the other more freedom. Putting Pogba on the bench would make things much easier for Jose. He would find a way to take Bruno out of the game.

I think this too. If Ole will go with 433 than it will be James instead of Williams but i like both options.

This whole post is a bunch of falsehood, but I won't get in the way of your manufactured reality. So carry on.
not a huge fan of this metric but a quick look at Pogba’s average rating on here for the matches he played this season backs me up. He is 5.6 v 6.2 and 6.0 for McT and Fred. All I’m saying is that his performances early on should mean that he should have to fight for his place but apparently that’s “falsehood”?????

Yet still bring it up. The Caf harshly rate players because they get way too emotional, especially if we don't get desired result. You'll be hard pressed to find any attacking player beside Bruno who just got here with a performance rating of over 5.9. All of Martial, Rashford etc have ratings of 5.7 or so yet Rashford was having an incredible season before his injury. That says it all about Caf ratings.

Pogba in a few minutes when he briefly came back in December showed more creativity than anything we'd managed in months without him. Saying he'd have to fight for his place against far inferior players is ridiculous.

I’m actually interested to see who starts at centre half too. With a clean slate in terms of fitness, I don’t know it Lindelöf will be ahead of Bailly. He wasn’t fit to start the season, but now with an effective new season and a month of training - don’t think it’s a given that Lindelöf is ahead in Ole’s plans.

    Wan-Bisaka - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw

    McTominay - Fernandez - Pogba

    Greenwood - Martial - Rashford

Subs: James - Matic - Fred

Yes, a 4-3-3. Spurs 0 - 5 MUFC. Scoring goals for fun. Bruno and Pogba will work together wonderfully.

Gah, had a nightmare that we were down 2-0 in under 20 min and were playing like absolute fools. Like a fair weather fan, didn't have the stomach to see it through to see the comeback and woke up all panicky.

When Ole arrived, he had both Bailly and Victor available and choose to start Victor. I still see him starting him against Tottenham, I don't see him tweaking the defense that only conceded 2 goals in 10 games prior to the pandemic.

And I also believe Ole will go with a 4231 formation, with McTominay or Matic next to Pogba and Bruno. The way I see them play is that Paul starts deeper than Bruno position wise but will still be allowed to burst into the box, provided he and Bruno work an understanding of who hangs back and when.

While Bruno plays further up the field compared to Pogba, he still doesn't get into the box as much as Pogba does, even when the latter starts from deeper(I don't know if people have realized this yet). Bruno operates in that final third yet not as much in the box, at least compared to Pogba. Pogba is also best suited starting deeper which allows him to work his full passing range yet he should be free enough to burst and make runs into the box and this is where him and Bruno will need to have an understanding of who stays back when they switch.

Front 3 I see Ole starting with James, Martial and Rashford and the 4231 is complete.

Its nice to see that we have a few good options in our squad. Perhaps the weakest area is still RW, but Ole has some "good" difficult decisions to make both in midfield and central defence.

Back in March I would have bet we would have won this 3-0 4-1 the way we were playing. Now with Kane and Son back they will be a better team. Still going with the win but 1-2 as we will be on the back foot more.

This looks fun and good. Only think that maybe Fred over McT because he's just getting back from injury and he's pretty young.

People are way too confident for this. We’re going to get a horrible reality check as we did at Arsenal.

Why do we have to play 5 defenders?
Exactly, we don’t and shouldn’t if we have a fully fit squad, I mean what kind of message does that send out and if we did Daniel James would be playing for counter attacking reasons.

It must be tempting to try to fit 4 midfielders into the team, and according to reports (as they say), Pogba was operating as nr. 10 in a diamond in the intra-squad match yesterday, while Maguire was paired with Tuanzebe. Could Ole go with this?

    ................... De Gea

    Bissaka Tuanzebe Maguire Shaw

    ................... Matic

    ...... Fernandes ..... Fred

    .................. Pogba

    ...... Martial .........Rashford

Looks good on paper, it really does.

But the lads has almost no experience with it and since Fernandes hasnt played with either Rashford or Pogba I’d think it‘s too soon to experiment.

Seems like the usual suspects are also in their pre-season/re-start matchday thread warm up. Negative before the kickoff.

All bets are off for the first couple of games. Clubs have finely tuned schedules and routines for pre season, it this is completely different. It won’t take much for a team to get their preparation wrong and given the strength of the PL, if the opposition have prepared better, then there are likely to be some shocks over the first couple of games.

    previous form is irrelevant.

forecasting this game is a complete guess.

Glad Alli is missing this. He's a bit shit these days, but he has done well against us in the past.
