What an absolute joke

It's not like it's going to make a big difference for Arsenal or the top 4/5 race, but still boggles the mind that he won't be punished for that.

This guy was clearly a gamble: his performances at France were not that spectacular but he had a good level for his age, so I'm surprised he had so many minutes. Probably our french residents of this forum might disagree with me.

Man, I haven't missed the mind-bending inconsistency of Premier League officiating.
Fernandinho pushed every Chelsea player and their family member for 20s straight, then grabbed Cesc and pushed him over the adboard. Slightly different but that might be my mind-bending recollection of the incident.
Having said that, i fully expected Guendouzi to get done for at least one game as he should. Won't make any difference, our midfield is non-existent with or without him. At least he showed some fight/petulence while the rest was nowhere to be found.

Arsenal are falling apart! Injuries, suspensions, star players wanting out. It all sounds rather toxic at the minute.

this lad has an unorthodox style on the ball and he never really looks like it’s totally under control. I suppose it’s a little bit like Fred but obviously Fred is a lot more effective and he’s playing in a better team. He’s got a decent engine, he can play a pass and will press and tackle. He doesn’t really excel at any one thing enough to stand out though. At 7 million he was worth a punt as there’s obviously still time to refine his game but I think he’ll fall short of what arsenal need over the next few years if they want to become competitive again.

He was better when he arrived straight from the French second division, Arsenal has rubbed off on him. Barely any progressive passing, ponderous on the ball like the rest of their midfielders. He clearly has the talent to pick out some lovely balls but barely does it anymore. Him and Ceballos is such a boring midfield, Ceballos has lovely technique but uses it to spin 100 times a game rather than try to move the ball quickly.

The most worrying thing is that Guendouzi doesn't seem to understand space on the pitch, he literally has 0 tactical awareness and it hasn't improved one bit in the 2 years since he arrived. He runs around like a headless chicken, which wouldn't be so bad if he was actually able to win the ball. He really is a bit of a clown. If you're so angry about Leno's injury, why not show it on the pitch rather than hide for 90 minutes and then act hard man after the final whistle? If Arsenal had some leaders around him rather than being the softest feckers in the league, maybe that energy would be chanelled better. I think there's still a player in there, he's very young and shows flashes once in a while. But he's a deeply flawed player, like James he's not ready or refined enough to play nearly the amount of minutes at PL level he's been asked to.

From an interview with Sven Mislintat about Guendouzi:

A young midfielder you singed from the second french division for Arsenal

SM: I saw him at FC Lorient, when the club still was in the first division. I like the club, they always produce interesting players. Guendouzi stud out with his long hair and his personality. But Ialso concentrated on his weaknesses. Are they trainable? Matteo ran unnecessarily across the whole pitch, but I was sure: It’s only a matter of training and time, before he learns when to run. It was an important transfer for us, because we wanted to show the world: We’re still the old Arsenal, which gives opportunities to younger player

Is anyone shocked to hear that Michael Oliver was the VAR for that game? Incompetent tossers, the lot of them.
I guarentee you that Oliver took off his headphones and mic as soon as the whistle blew, maybe picked up his empty mug and didnt give the screen a second glance as this went down.

Interesting quote. Looks like they haven't corrected it a bit in the past 2 years.

I love how Arsenal fans have talked themselves into believing this is a player showing balls and character when really it's a petulant child trying to do something a little sly. If he really had character he would've done something during the game, not waited until they lost the game and then thrown his toys out the pram.

Isn’t this the same guy that injured Leno? Didn’t think of that previously. Kinda feel less angry about this, Maupay is twat also.
Was a nothing incident that caused the injury, absolutely nothing malicious and no different than dozens of collisions every game. Maupay did nothing wrong really there.

He didn't 'injure' Leno. There was absolutely nothing in that tackle. Just an unlucky landing, same as Zlatan's. Strikers make that challenge every single game. Strange reaction from Arsenal players, especially Leno himself. I wish him a quick recovery. That said, Guendouzi escaping a back is nothing short of farcical.

It's dangerous play to push someone in the air. In football it's considered fair if you try to play the ball. Maupay wasn't, he only wanted to push Leno out of the box to get a bitchy free-kick. That's what he was shouting for until he heard Leno destroy his knee.

Only PEA really, I dont think the Arsenal fans care at all that Ozil wants out. Probably happy to drive him to the airport.

It happens every time two players go up for a header. In many cases the ball is unwinnable for one of those players and it's about putting the opponent off by making contact with them. That is coached at kids level, and is rarely ever given as a foul.

Maupay jumps towards the ball at the same moment Leno catches it, he's momentarily late at worst. We wouldn't be speaking about dangerous play if Leno didn't get injured. The landing is extremely unfortunate, but in the grand scheme of how often similar challenges happen, the outcome is incredibly rare. The challenge itself isn't particularly dangerous.

Arsenal fans on social media are unbearable about it right now, I've seen so many fan accounts posting the replay with captions like "HORROR CHALLENGE" and "Maupay CRUNCHES Leno". I don't remember Chelsea fans reacting the same way when Zouma got the same injury, or us when it happened to Zlatan, both caused by contact from players who had pretty much zero chance of winning the ball.

He was playing in Ligue 2, there was nothing special about his level for his age.

It was a nothing challenge, something you see on every corner, usually gets a free kick for the keeper and the game moves on.
Dangerous play would be if he led with his elbow, which he clearly didn't,

Ohh please, it was unfortunate yes but it's what every player does going into a header. This happens 50 times a game. I actually felt sorry you guys because Leno has been your player of the season but the outpouring of crazy comments made it kind of hard.. A terrible injury and a unlucky incident.

Come one, the video angle I saw he clearly didn't have to spring that arm into Leno. He is a nasty twat.

I agree, Maupay has no chance of getting the ball, he isn't even competing for the ball. Not even in the obviously lost aerial duel sense. And playing the man off the ground is potentially very dangerous which is why it's not allowed. Leaning on and pushing when not interested in the ball are different things.

Having said that, this is 50 % just down to how he lands. In the category of could have happened anyway. So I think Arsenal team have overreacted into making it into "there's an excuse for being crap today" but I understand Leno being angry.

Team response isn't about being together and fighting adversity is it? It's being narky about something which is semi accidental. Push him harder and he lands on his head and I understand how upset you are. But not for that.

Except when one of these players is a GK that can use his hands and clearly have an advantage in that exact situation. You just have to look at Maupay's way of jumping: he jumps just a second after Leno and immediately turns to absorb the hit with his shoulder. Did he try to injure him ? Of course not ! The result is a freak incident but that's not the point though. The point is that happened because of bad luck and a clear intention to "cheat" by trying to push the keeper out of his box. And even if that was in the middle of the box, what are you going to gain ? If the keeper lose the ball, 99.99% of the time the ref will blow for a foul. It's a stupid thing to do to an opponent in the air but even more to a goalkeeper who will definitely outreach you or get the foul.

I think Arteta has had enough of him. He had "words" with him after an incident at a holiday training camp earlier in the season. I'm guessing he had another row with him after the Brighton game as he wasn't in the squad for Southampton.

He is a good player but young and reckless. His decision making is poor and his awareness is on par with Xhaka.

Hope to god we don’t sign him.
One paced, falls over the moment an opposition player comes within 2 yards of him and questionable attitude.
I know he only cost peanuts but he’s not good enough and I don’t see much sign he ever will be.

No thanks. He’s shit & has a piss poor attitude.

He’s not a DM either to back-up Matic, he’s a CM we already have 2 back-up CMs better than him
