You know he is a whole human being right? Not just a footballer. I have a job and I have business interests too. If he wants to start a clothing brand, then start a clothing brand. Why should he not be an entrepreneur?

Fans are too entitled. They want 360 control and input into how a footballer who plays for their team lives. There has never been any reports about Jesse not training properly, not taking fitness seriously or the like. Outside of that, I’m not sure why everyone feels so entitled to a say on another human beings interests.
I am entitled if I go on twitter and suggest him of what he should be doing :) which I do not do.

But there have been cases of footballers thinking they have made it prematurely which ultimately ruined their career. It is all about timing, and his was an unfortunate one. And it is what I was suggesting. I do not care about what he wears or what sort of cars he drives. I don't go around criticizing his hair or fashion. It can't be a 360 control if my main worry had always been if he followed Cleverley's path... which seems to be happening right now.

It's not about him having a clothing brand in itself. It's about him having a clothing brand when he's a nothing footballer. It speaks to either a deep set arrogance or mad delusion on his part. People didn't have much of a problem with Beckham's off field antics because he always left everything on the pitch. Pogba has blown hot and cold throughout his time here, but he's still a globally recognised top footballer so trying to exploit his own brand at least makes sense.

The other thing I really don't like is how he inseparable from Rashford he was for a long time (and maybe still is?). Why would any 27 year old footballer be besties with someone almost 6 years younger unless they were seriously immature? Even if they grew up in the same street and had the exact same experiences in the academy, most footballers form cliques according roughly to their ages.

Jesse is a man that cares deeply about his Manchester United career. We know that becaue he's revealed a lot about his family history and how he got to where he is and his emotional process during the way.
We know that he's had family struggles this season that's affected him in a negative way and he finally manned up and told the manager what was the probable reason for his lack of form. To be fair that probably took a lot of courage to admit to someone that your house is hurting. Lingard is taking care of both his siblings and his own child since his mother is very sick. His grandfather has prostate cancer and the two are very close (ref: the Players Tribune).

I think Jesse has played his part here and should find a new club, but there is not a mean bone in his body so why don't the ones who can't seem to be able to, look yourself in the mirror and reflect on what gives you the right to berate someone for simply being a out of form football player?

It's more than fair to criticize the on pitch performance, but I've seen some posts in the other threads on here that I don't wan to be remotely assosicated with.

To put some nuance to this whole "Only cares about his brand" bullshit I'm seeing some of you post:

Here is a handful of young men from Manchester United visiting a lifelong Manchester United fan who passed away from cancer 45 minutes after meeting players from his favorite team back in 2016. - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...-wish-45-minutes-before-he-died-a7308676.html - It was Jesse Lingard that took initiative to do this after his cousin told him about it. It takes more than a bit of a character to visit a dying man you don't know on his deathbed.

So you know, we can all choose to remind ourselves that Jesse is actually a great young man that's having some real hurt in his life these days. Or we can go "bUt JLinzSs" like we are dumber than grass that thinks people only have two things going on in their lives.
Brilliant post mate, thanks.

I can never understand what can only be described as personal hatred that some harbour for footballers, so that's definitely something I disagree with. However, as a footballer, Lingard, and I'd add Periera to that bracket, isn't good enough for Manchester United. He's had his moments but eventually for the level of football club this is, we need to maintain higher standards and let him go further his career at a team more suitable to his abilities where he will get more opportunities.

A Crack Habit.
Needs to go this summer, the standard of footballer at united needs to be higher than both him and Pereira. He would be a good signing for a Southampton type side as they like players who can press well done there and his lack of technical ability at the highest level would not be a problem down there. Perhaps even Newcastle.

I think the hate he gets is a hangover from the other season where the situation was extremely toxic. More than half our team was hated by our own fans, and Gary Neville was saying stuff like "This team are unlikable"

Who were Zlatan's best mates at United? And what was the age gap...?

Yes. Thank you for the Fa Cup goal, but ultimately went through a purple patch that didn't last very long. Always got a soft spot for academy graduates, but unfortunately he never stayed or possibly never reached an acceptable level for a club with out aspirations.

Have no idea who would take him though with his wages, Arsenal Maybe?
I'd say he certainly reached an acceptable level. He was one of England's best players in the world cup but immediately went off a cliff after that.

He's certainly not injured as he's always pictured in training photos, guess he's on his way out, like others have said, I have a soft spot for academy graduates but he needs to move on, nowhere near good enough anymore. At least he once was though, unlike Pereira.

Why does he have to be a great footballer to have a clothing brand? He us a globally recognised athlete. He is well within his rights to have one.
Your second paragraph makes little sense. Why can't he be close mate with Rashford?
See I want Lingard out as much as the next guy but some people take this to an extreme.
His only crime is not being good enough to be here. which is no crime at all. All the other stuff is just nonsense.

Honestly? It's because he's a douchebag at times. In America, I'm used to athletes acting like Lingard was acting. Can't have a brand, wear five figure diamind chains, not be good at your job, and expect people to be forgiving and kind.

Jesse has to go, Ole has been more than fair in giving him enough chances to show a bit of form and he has been terrible. Even on his best form he is a squad player and anything less he does not make the bench and I think at this stage in his career a Newcastle- Southampton type move may spark him into life and at least play every week in the Premier League. I think that is as good as it gets for Jesse.

There’s absolutely no shame in not being as good as Bruno Fernandes and that’s his replacement more or less. He’s played many times for the club he grew up at. Hes made a lot of money. He’s won stuff. He won’t be the first player who came through and failed to keep up with uniteds high standards and he won’t be the last. More talented players have done far less here than Jesse. He can be proud of that. I hope he gets going again at a new club. Hard facts his level after his drop off is not good enough for top 6. He’s not worth the wages he is on. Only he can do anything to change that and it looks like he’s eventually run out of chances here. He can’t say the club didn’t try their best with him.
Some really well reasoned posts on here which is surprising given the way a number of our fans like to dictate exactly how our players play & act in everyday life.

He’s scored some big goals for us but is ultimately falling short in terms of quality; the personal nature of the attacks on our players is unwarranted.

3 good posts, thank you.

You guys posts are just plain disgusting and disrespectful!
He is the ultimate legend for us, and here the ultimate tribute to his majesterial prowess!

Oof. Ole never has a bad word to say about anyone so his 'he's getting back to the Jesse I knew' line is as close to damning as he gets

Maybe one more chance? I mean, he hasn't played much in our well oiled team. Could probably be better than he's been.

Instead of who?

Can't take Fernandes place as he is the machine, can't take Greenwood's place as he is on fire.

So that leaves striker, left wing and centre midfield. No thanks.

He will get a chance from the bench i'm sure, maybe against LASK at the end of the season.

The club need to be ruthless and move players on that aren't high enough quality. He's had a great time here, won some trophies and earnt a shit tonne of money.

Totally disagree.
Theres a reason it's a well oiled team. Players like him are not in it.
He's not good enough if were playing decent opposition and need wins.

He's not the level of the starters or even most on our bench. If he stays he won’t get a lot of time and knows it. He should move on.

Less than a year left on the contract? Yeah he's gone

Don't understand the animosity. Still struggling with the stupid theory that his brand disrupted his form.

Wish him the best, never had an issue with him personally. Maybe he'll get a new lease of life at a Everton or Southampton or in the Bundesliga?
Yeah agreed. Just think there’s correlation versus causation. Too many are drawing conclusions that his poor form was caused by his brand, when there’s no evidence it has. He might just simply never have been good enough for a side trying to seriously challenge, which is hopefully the direction we’re headed. It could be that simple. I’m glad we’re moving on but I hope he finds a decent club and rediscovers some good form.

For his talent I would say he has achieved a good deal in football. He should have no regrets. I still believe he could have been a solid squad player had he just stayed humble and worked on his football. His behaviour post 2018 summer has been nothing but shambolic, acting like a 10 year old and thinking he is bigger than what he is. He became complacent and was content with his football. He loved the attention he was getting and was spending too much time with rashford doing stupid things.

People say off field antics shouldn't matter, yes it shouldn't if you are playing like ronaldo or messi but if you are playing shit and we are losing and then you post a stupid video , it matters to the people who care for the club or the business.

This forum is more anti-Lingard than it is anti-Liverpool or anti-City. It's a ridiculous state of affairs. He's become the easy/lazy punchline to every joke.

The guy tries his best but doesn't possess the quality or confidence. If he needs to be replaced by Ole in the transfer window, he will be. In the meantime, we should want him to find his form so he can contribute his best to the squad. Because his best would definitely be good enough to at least come off the bench.

I always find it a bit funny that People here thought Ole was a yes-man and too Nice. We are talking about a guy who spent years playing With and being respected by Roy Keane. If you play 7-8 Seasons with Keane, you can be ruthless.
He was called the Baby faced assassin and was as ruthless as anyone on the pitch. The smiles give the wrong impression.

Seems like a really good guy to me.

Maybe not quite at Elite level as a player, so if he wants regular first 11 footy, maybe somewhere like Everton, Newcastle etc would be the move for him.

Good post.

I can accept on a football forum people saying he's not good enough for where we want to be - that's fair enough, you have to be pretty brilliant to be at a top few in the league club. It's no crime not being good enough at that level!

It's the weird moaning at him personally, or because he smiles a bit, and likes a laugh on camera.
I wonder if people would prefer our players to be at the bookies for the hours they're not playing rather than working on another interest like clothing.

It's "probably" time for him to go to another club for all parties, but he shouldn't leave tainted in any way.

It’s not just anti Lingard, but there are a lot of anti English posters as well.

Can’t question his attitude on the pitch. There have been times when the manager has asked him to come back sooner, and he’s got himself injured as a result. That tells me a lot about his attitude, he’s there when needed.

I was at Wembley when he scored his FA Cup final goal, thanks Jesse.

For the past 5 years our attack and midfield has varied from poor to sporadically ok. But now we have the strength we need, and he’s no longer in the managers plan.

He’s a player who came up through the youth team, contributed to our success and has been an international footballer. He’s never been a nailed on starter, and it’s quite difficult to nail down what his best position is - but he’s been there to play whenever and wherever needed.

He’s shown some immaturity off the pitch, so what, players do that.

Looks like the end of the road at Utd, because we have improved the team. Good luck wherever he goes next. I personally don’t understand the Harris for him, he’s made the best use of his talents.

I don't think fans moan because he smiles a bit and has jokes on camera. I think the problem is when United were lingering in mid table and the fans see Lingard serving up shite on the pitch and then acting like a child without a care in the world off it after another embarrassing defeat. I've no doubt he deeply cares about United and wish him all the best when he leaves but his character is simply not befitting of a United player. You look at Martial the other night coming off looking pissed off because he wasn't able to get his goal in a 3-0 win and that's what I want to see, the standards are raising again. Players like Lingard are a great example of how low our standards became over the past 6 years.

We can't feel sorry for players, or give them more chances because their youth products. Jesse has had his time here, given us some great moments and performances, but he's a shadow of the player he used to be.

In regards to his clothing brand, Man United has never been a place for players like that. Even Beckham, who is ten times the player Lingard ever was, was sold when his own celebrity status was almost becoming bigger than United itself. Jesse uses his association with the club to promote his own personal brand

Just look to Ole's post match comment after the Villa game to get an idea how the club would frown upon Lingard's own 'personal ventures'. His comments on how Mason has to live his life properly, are the antithesis of what we see from Lingard.

As good as gone 16 months ago. This is a long goodbye. Under SAF no guest who'd over-stayed his welcome lasted more than about 6 months. His uber is very late.
