I mean, this is the same manager who fecked off Lukaku and Sanchez, as well as Smalling without a shred of regret... When the supposed tough guys like LvG and Jose were all too willing to give their ilk chance after chance despite flattering to deceive more often than not.
No one think that the lukaku we signed would have suited our current style and addition of Bruno?

I mean for everyone he latched on to through balls and ran at goal. Pogba and Bruno would maybe have suited him?

Isn't the three managers similar?
Each have their own favorite/preferred players given repetitive chances even if their performances are terrible and players they ruthlessly removed from the squad.
Almost every managers are like that.

LVG's first season sweeping players in box out, and then the other poor players he stubbornly persist playing. Tbf, Smalling justified his selection with his beast mode form.
Mou with Lukaku and Matic among others, but also removed the likes of Rooney, Mkhi, Schweini, Schneiderlin, etc.

Ole with Lingard (hopefully no more), Rashford (justified in many games), De Gea (mistakes increasing but generally reasonable why Ole persist in many games) etc, yet he also removed Herrera, Lukaku, Sanchez, etc.

Which version of Lukaku?

If it's Lukaku 17/18 then definitely.
Pogba already suited him, but Pogba is much better playing with an all-around striker eg. Zlatan other than a specialist.

Bruno and Pogba provided the services consistently and Lukaku to finish.

Also, even-though that Lukaku fits our current style, the 2020 version of Martial suits us more.

Lukaku was terrible for us in his last season. The current Martial is much better.

Absolutely not. SAF cannot even remotely be compared to the touchline lunatics like Pep or Klopp. SAF didn't constantly shout like them, nor was he so hands-on as people like Lampard and Jose are, constantly shouting instructions. He spent most of the time sitting and observing and when he did descend from his seat, the players knew they had to buck up. I think Evra once spoke, that when they saw SAF standing on the touchline, the players knew they were in trouble and immediately redoubled their efforts. This wouldn't have the same effect if he was constantly standing and raving on the touchline like Pep.

I think LVG once said that if the manager has to constantly shout instructions during the match, that means he hasn't prepared the players well enough during the week. As much as I disliked the man, I have to agree with this statement of his.

Constantly shouting on the touchline is no measure of management skills. SAF seldom shouted at his players mid-match and it worked out alright for him.
If anyone in here bother to read SAF’s Leading, he specifically said that a manager which shouted a lot in the touchline shows that he lacked preparation and trust in his own squad and it could affect player morale. Take that as you will. Saw OP write that SAF is a touchline manager, now I’m not sure what was he watching all these years. I can provide the transcript in which SAF touched this subject.

So far Ole has proven as ruthless at Jose in terms of changing the squad. You can tell he's just not a face to face or confrontational character however.

His style is more to just get rid of players and sign players with a better attitude it seems.

You can mean all you like. I first responded to a post that made out klopp just made mediocre players thrive. Ignoring the fact he had to more or less buy a new starting 11 to make thrive
But you said that Klopp 'bought Ballon D'Or rated forwards'

They weren't Ballon D'Or rated/quality when he bought them. They became so under his management.

A players' first touch really needs to exist for us to play with a fluid attack. Lukaku, technically, was just awful for any sort of progressive football. Selling him for that price is Ed's best piece of business.

He can at least do a MJ Moonwalk on the touchline if the game is boring.... that should appease some of the fans.

Carrick's demeanor annoys the crap out of me. Barely seen him move a muscle or said a word on the bench or during water breaks. The most active thing he'll do is slightly nod when Ole disturbs his zen.

Even in training videos and pics, you'll only ever see him with arms crossed looking on from a distance. McKenna also looks like a disgruntled Tesco employee but at least he opens his mouth at times.

Which one of you still think that Ole supporting his players in public means he's soft on the training field? Speak up so I can correct your opinion.
it’s becoming abundantly clear that Ole style is he will never criticise his players in public and be as supportive as is credible about his team to the media.

But he is also deadly serious whenever his mask does let slip. Remember last season when he said ‘I’ll be successful at United - several players won't". He also said similar in a recent long interview: that he observes players over time, and some just fade from his radar, and once that happens, they are done for.

This is evidenced in how he ruthlessly let go as many players as possible that don’t fit his plans with more to follow this summer. Also by his lack of rotation post lockdown, because he doesn’t trust others.

He is much more ruthless than I imagined, inspired by SAF no doubt, and I think that’s fantastic. He knows and appreciates how lucky he is to get this life opportunity and thinks any player at the club should feel the same so jettisoning those who don’t is very easy.

All those who said he was just Mr Smily PE teacher got it badly wrong. Ole is more than happy to knife you, he’ll just do it in plain view and with a smile on his face. He really is the baby faced assassin.

But if he doesn’t anyone outside the first XI, which is bad but we are at the end of the season which is great news, then why give McTominay a new 5 year contract? If he doesn’t trust him then surely he should have been shipped out this summer?

Personally I totally agree with you on that front and been very critical in other threads in his misuse of McT, Fred and Igalo.

I don’t agree or even understand the logic with not using them more. it’s been his only real failing since lockdown.

I feel like the only time he should be active on the touchline is when the players look like they're under pressure and he has things in his mind to change the game. Sometimes it helps to have your boss watch over you and give a few words when you need support or instructions, especially when the team has so many young players. Both things need to happen, otherwise why should he come down and shout at players?

Ole Phelan McKenna Carrick all look and act like they lack the charisma and 'swagga' a United Manager should have. Carrick looks like his girlfriend dumped him and he's depressed

It's actually quite hard for me to envision Ole lifting a pl or cl trophy. Him sitting there using that iPad all the time now makes it even harder to see it  . But it would be stupid to judge a book by its cover. He's done better than Mourinho and Lvg who looked more like United managers with alot of charisma

Exactly. LVG said something along the same lines as well. And honestly, if I was a player, I would get annoyed at the manager constantly shouting instructions because it would imply he doesn't trust me enough to let me get on with my job.

Sorry but what does improving Pogba have to do with Ole's presence?

It's a major gripe because it's a major part of a game. Solskjaer himself had a fantastic reputation as a substitute. Being able to see the course of a game and make an adjustment, whether personnel or tactical, to change that course is a very very important part of the game. The best managers are constantly talking during a game and making adjustments.

I genuinely find what you've said baffling.
Because we lack options on the bench. Fred and McTomminay are very decent, but does not really offer something different and certiannly not much of a goal scoring treath. Attacking options are non existant.

Ironically i think someone like Lukaku and Fellaini would be useful. Not suggesting we should have kept them, but they could have offered another approach in tight games

Stop being so fecking pedantic. did klopp turn his shit forwards into thriving players? Like Origi and lallana? No. Did he feck! He went and bought players who atleast at the potential to be ballon dor forwards. He doesn’t just go around turning water into wine as people suggest. fecking hell this place and the absolute love for klopp is ridiculous

I don’t get it? Did mane and salah have more potential than Origi? why didn’t klopp just turn Origi into a 20 or 30 goal forward? I thought that’s what he does?

I can’t remember him turning sakho into a strong stable centre back either, he had to go and buy a highly rated one.

basically klopp as gone and bought his team, good signing Yes, players with potential yes. Did he turn all the shit into league winners? Did he feck.

I meant that salah and mane had clearly more potential than Origi and lallana. I would have liked mane here so yeah I thought they were better than they had.

maybe a bit similar to us buying martial who had more talent depay, sosljaker now has martial playing better than ever. Or buying Bruno to replace lingard.

my whole point and keeps getting further from it was klopp bought players he thought had potential and could work in his team, he didn’t just turn absolute dross into thriving premier league winners as that’s what is made out and used as a stick to beat Ole with as we’re still not challenging for the league and he can’t turn lingard or pereira or Jones or whoever else into a league challenge going team.

klopp gets the best out of his players I agree, mainly players he’s chose to put in his team, he doesn’t just get the best out of any player he comes across.

I saw a team on Wednesday night come out from half time with their ears ringing, and we scored pretty soon after.

Maybe Ole doesn’t see the benefit in berating his players in public but is happy to give them an earful when the time is appropriate. When a manager that is normally calm and collected does show anger and aggression it will be much more effective than just constantly shouting.

That's what rotations for? Did Matic need to start v Bournemouth at home? Probably not. Did Shaw need to play every minute of nearly every game until he got injured? Probably not. Could Ighalo have got more minutes? Maybe.

For me it's simple. Ole has done very well here so far. Got rid of the right players, signed the right players, improved some players. If we get CL, that's progress, keep building and show progress again next year. Maybe not fighting for CL on the final day, maybe more comfortably third, best case scenario we're in some sort of title challenge come April time.

If we don't, it's the same as last year. In our own hands but dropped it at the final hurdles. Coupled with a manager saying "We don't need to beat Leicester," I don't like that attitude. It doesn't bode well.

In his later years, SAF did the same hardly approached the touch line. He would do it only in the biggest games and the key moments.

Even then he never shouted, I found he did more to encouragement and focus.

He’s obviously doing the right things behind the scenes. He definitely has it in him though, I remember he rollicked lingard then smiled straight after:lol:

Unbeaten run doesn’t mean shit if they can’t perform in big games. You can go the entire season unbeaten and still have only 38 points. Would be happy with that unbeaten run?
Most point since the return, and for a sizable number of games too. It’s not just not losing, we’ve caught up with Leicester and Chelsea.

Yeah he was whispering sweet nothings at Evans too.
If anyone watches United regularly Saf would scream at them from the touch line.
He is not shouting tactics or how to play the game. It's just to let them know that they are making a balls out of it.
Does anyone really think if a player is regularly giving away the ball in dangerous areas Saf is going to sit in his chair with a smile on his face? No. He would be on the touchline screaming eff this and eff that.
Yes given the fact we usually win under him, this would be a lot less bad play under him than after his retirement.

Firstly no one here said Klopp changed XI bums into champions. You’re the only one saying he changed water into wine. What was said earlier was he did change mediocre players into players who thrive in his system.

Secondly when he bought Salah or Mane they weren’t in the top 10-15 players in the world. They are right now. Of all his buys prolly only Alisson and Van Dijk were ready made. He made everyone else better and again they thrive in his system. He also bought Wijnaldum, Robertson, Gomez and TAA. Didn’t they get better since he bought them? You talk as if he bought all galaticos. So yeah I’d still say he is a master tactician and currently definitely better than Ole.

The whole debate started by you saying they’re master tacticians who turn mediocre players into thriving ones or something, then said all Ole does is put out his best eleven and hope, basically implying klopp could get lingard, pereira and whatever other rubbish we had here winning the league. I just pointed out they actually had to change 90% of their team and can’t work miracles with simply anybody

I understand, you’ve got a hard on for klopp but won’t afford Ole the same time in getting his own players in.
That does sound harsh and don’t really want it to, some people’s minds are made up about Ole already.

I’ve never disagreed that klopp and pep are superior coaches, not once but Solskjær is doing a good job here and seems to be moving in the right direction. Constantly comparing him to klopp and pep doesn’t help

You keep taking peoples posts out of context. I never said I wanted Ole fired. I am allowed to critical of him in the same way I am allowed to be critical of Fergie. And I don’t have a hard on for Klopp or Pep but you have to give credit where it’s due whether they are managing your rivals or not.
