Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

We're getting mocked in social media by Chelsea fans:lol: apparently they're getting their targets and we're not getting Sancho. This deal looks dead atm.
We always get mocked by rival fans, most probably because we get linked with every player going which turns out false, can't afford/won't pay the going rates and the fact the some utd fans act about 13 years old and wank off about potential signings which will never happen then make YouTube videos ,cringey and worth all the mocking they deserve

This seems to be the core argument here to discredit anything Zorc says or does. In my memory there have been two instances of Dortmund's higher ups going against a public statement they had made:
  • They claimed they would not sell Dembele who kicked up the most childish fuss I have seen to date. They ended up selling him for ~€140m after there was no way in hell it would have been possible for him to reintegrate into the team. Basically at that point they offloaded a cnut that was of little worth to the team and as it would turn out for Barca as well
  • Watzke said not all three out of Mkhitaryan, Hummels and Gündogan would be sold. From what I have read in this matter Mkhitaryan had given his word to stay and changed his mind once United came calling. A move that did not turn out too well for him, which came to no surprise to anyone following his three year stint at Dortmund which saw him struggle in his first two seasons.
I think these are the two prominent cases that are cited time and again in order to paint Zorc as some sort of spineless greedy businessman, as someone who has monitored his transfer dealings quite closely for over a decade I believe that this characterization is nonsensical. He might go against his word when it is for the welfare of the club (see Dembele) but I simply don't see that to be the case here.

No idea how United conduct transfers, in the end it is Dortmund's decision.

That would imply that every other club Dortmund would do business with are utter morons. If they try to sign a properly talented winger it is common knowledge that this will have to be in context of a Sancho departure.

Necessary disclaimer for this thread: I do not claim to know the absolute truth, Sancho could still be sold, I would just be surprised.
Due diligence, it's never a simple no from the start when they first needed to find out how badly Juventus wanted him gone.
Image rights in itself would never have prevented the deal.

It fell apart because Dybala wasn't keen on joining us, no reason to walk into that trap again

Well , i didnt follow the Dembele saga much, but with both Maguire and Bruno it was very similar that they said he wouldnt be sold.

My point about United briefs is that if Dortmund (and Sancho) really said to us in private that Sancho wont be sold nomatter what, United would just say so via their briefing journalists. Happened with Dybala, Haaland and Bruno in the summer. They wouldnt just pretend like nothing if there werent any chance of it going through. Even Fabrizio and Falk isnt saying its 100% off.

Well, the Dortmund fans seem to believe Sancho is staying and that the club is looking at Depay still... It has happened alot of times that an replacement has been bought and then suddenly a sale goes through.

Im not trying to sound like an entitled United fan, its just that the pattern is so very very similar to our other big signings.

Hope to be wrong but I feel this deal is dead. Don't see us raising the fee to meet Dortmund's demand. Sancho also seems content of staying one more year at Dortmund.

Let us move on and get another target.

Also interesting is what Haaland said with Sancho. Why would it be great character to play well and look sharp if he is so happy about staying an extra year?

Because haaland is a slice short of a loaf nothing he says makes sense.

I do think this deal has stalled and it doesn’t like like Sancho is going to raise much a fuss and put in a transfer request. This deal is dead imo.

So who are the alternatives? Dembele and Coman have been mentioned but I’m surprised we’re not looking at Sarr. 5 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances with Watford is not a bad return at all when you consider they only scored 36 goals. He could be like Mane in that he stands out with better players around him.

We'll almost certainly get him. It's well reported our budget is up to 150m, so we can afford 120m EUR. Sancho is a priority target and we've been interested pretty much all season. We've just offloaded a big chunk of Sancho's wages and vacated the 7 shirt, and we will likely move at least 2-3 (out of 7-8 deadwood) players on. I'd imagine this will add to our flex on squad additional players (1 maybe 2) after him.

All 100m (or thereabouts) transfer tend to be drawn out over multiple weeks or months, even when the player wants to move. I see this as going similar to Maguire - a stubborn reluctance to bridge a 20m gap before we succumb.

Don't think you'll escape the newbies any time soon

Haaland is a bit dim. I would not be surprised if he was incapable of correctly ordering his lunch in a bakery.

At PL standard I would get Brooks. Give Greenwood time to mature and Brooks can definitely do a job.

We can't expect CL glory straight away even with Sancho.

Basically this. If the clubs can agree a fee (we will need to basically pay what they want), then Dortmund don't lose face. They can spin it as a they've received a record bid during Covid for a player who wanted out.

This basically comes down to do we want him enough to pay the full amount (and can we afford it).
It’s the only way they can really get away with all this posturing and save any face if they sell. Probably means Sancho will sacrifice some sort of bonuses he was entitled to. Maybe United will pay those for him as part of a signing on fee unless he chooses to wave it all together.
If there is any truth to the recent contract extension you would think any agent worth his socks would have guaranteed Sancho gets some cash from any sort of move.

Let's add to the psychological warfare by locking this thread and change the title to just "Jadon Sancho - Dortmund Player", or "Jadon Sancho-- Overrated" Make those Germans know we at the Caf don't play.

No one said that Sancho never wanted to leave, going on in a professional manner after his move got denied would indeed be commendable.

Doesn't sound like he's forcing a move yet.

Sounds like he's guiding them in not going AWOL like Aubameyang and doing it the right way by handing in a transfer request and being professional. What a legend

With regards to all of these tweets from Dortmund's players, I said it yesterday and I'll say it again: talk is cheap.

They'll be saying the same thing when he either comes to us or eventually goes to Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or City.

This is over, let it go muppets, you're only going to hurt yourself, we know how this ends. He has now come out and publicly spoken about how much he enjoys being there and playing with his teammates, when people here thought it was a sign he himself wasn't coming out and speaking. He now has. The German media is consistent in saying Dortmund aren't going to let him leave and Sancho is happy to stay, which honestly seems consistent with his body language.

We called their bluff on the deadline/their valuation and we got fecked. Using silence on our end as a means to justify hope is silly, there could be silence because we still think it's possible, whilst Dortmund and the player themselves are both inclined to him staying. We couldn't justify paying the fee and we handled the negotiations poorly.
