Ethnicity at a higher risk based on what? Those stats that you see are mainly based on socio-economic factors. People don't have a higher risk of dying because they are black. It doesn't work that way. There are facts that you have to put into context and that stat is mainly surrounding socio-economic factors.
Indeed. Footballers are at very low risk regardless of race due their age, fitness and access to elite level medical care.

As someone else said though, his wife is heavily pregnant so hopefully they are both OK.
Well I hope she didn't go with him, that would be a tad irresponsible. Anyways that's my opinion. I would hope he went solo and then tested before he went home to see his wife. Unless he's a guy that wants to take chances, then he can do whatever he wants with his life.

Many on this forum will tell you that this virus will kill you with ease though. Crazy how far some are from reality. You should've seen the "will coronavirus cancel the premier league" thread. Lots on there were going hysterical claiming the end of the world and how football will not exist for the next 5 years.
The virus will certainly be around for years, but it's crazy how far the media are driving its potency. Apparently if you're American and under 35, you have more of a chance of being hit by lightning than dying of COVID-19. By all means wear a mask, social distance and isolate if you have symptoms, but don't follow the hysteria in the media, you'll be driven insane.

Crazy how the virus doesn't spread during riots...

People need to calm down. Do you know the rate of death for people in their 20s? Now take into consideration that he's an elite athlete, what do you think the chance of him dying is?

You guys act like covid is the end of the world virus. It's really not. Maybe too much CNN for some of you.
We don't know if Pogba is in 'elite' health. He could have a condition we don't know about and not to mention his wife is pregnant. There's been healthy young people who have died of his virus. Over 800k deaths worldwide. Maybe too much Fox News for you.

Poor lad. Wish him an instant recovery, and hope it’s not serious at all. Same goes for the 6 Chelsea lads.

Well, in the UK it's been widely accepted - even by the NHS - that black and ethnic minorities have a higher risk of contracting the virus. I'm not sure whether that translates as having a higher chance of dying from it though.

My wife - who's a pharmacist for the NHS - has had to attend meetings/fill out risk assessment forms because of this.

Yeah that's another massive plus Pogba will have over the rest of us mere mortals; he almost certainly won't need it but it's great it's there for our players :)

Why is Pogba being named but the six Chelsea players aren't?
Presumably because he’s specifically withdrawn from the France squad citing this reason while the others have had no reason to name themselves and are protected by GDPR.

You don't really need to ask that do you?

Pogba is a huge name and "headline news" that they love to hate on. Chelsea players.... are Chelsea players.

I know 3 people who have had it and are still suffering severe respiratory difficulties more than 4 months later. None are prime athletes as you say but all relatively young.

Hopefully he has a mild case and bounces back to full health soon.
I know a lady who is a professional mountain climber, and had climbed Everest twice, the fittest you can literally be, and she nearly died from covid19, and took her around 3 months to properly shake it off. No idea yet on any long term consequences.

Yes, the stats look good for younger people, but that's meaningless for the minority outliers who suffer or even die.

Hope some good can come of this because of Pogba's fame and appeal: that it gives young people, especially in UK and France, a shock that anyone can get it, and perhaps they all take social distancing more seriously.

But isn’t that due to the fact that they largely live in more deprived areas largely due to our racist society?

Surely it can’t be genetic?

Contraction would surely be socio-economic though? As in, cramped into tight spaces etc. It's hardly a case of white people somehow being more resistant with better immune systems? Unless they're healthier in general.

Do you have a link to the studies?

AWB supposedly having to go into quarantine because of where he went on holiday as well. Ighalo went to same place so he will have to as well.
Just to get this out of the way, I’m very much Ole, Phelan, Carrick etc in and have never wanted them out yet. However, it’s plain stupid of them to allow this. Even if they didn’t know, they and the two players should have done some prior research.

No, it's because Deschamps came out and said Pogba has it.

I guess. Do those people have any pre-existing conditions? I know a couple people who had it and didn't feel anything and kicked it within a week.

Black people are more vulnerable to the virus isn't it?

My god.

EDIT:
yeah, looked it up.

Black people four times more likely to die from Covid-19, ONS finds. :(
That's due to their lack of access to good healthcare in comparison to white people and not their genetics.

Again, really hope he recovers instantly, most importantly for his own health, but also because we’re screwed without him against Palace.

Good thing all Americans are under the age of 35 then!

Is he with any other United players? Martial was rumoured to be getting the call up for the french squad, would him and Pogba be together for this?

Exactly. His age and fitness is on his side but the virus seems to be a roll of the dice for some people and we can only hope Pogba deals with it well.

Also, I see some posts are oriented towards disappointment from a Man Utd perspective. In this case I would say feck Utd, we should just be concerned from a human point of view and thoughts should only be for him and his family.

Pogba has had multiple medicals. The last one being 4 years ago before he made an 89 million pound move. If they didn't detect anything with his health, then I'm not sure what the point of those medicals are.

If his wife didn't think there would be a chance of her catching the virus then maybe she needs to think more.

Healthy young people die of other things too and the real number of deaths we will never truly know as some hospitals are incentivized to report covid deaths. Keep living in fear and hysteria though, only 2 more weeks I promise.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Yep, that's the big worry.

A lot of people fall into the trap of thinking of it as recovered or dead, but the reality is that many of the people who recover go on to have health issues for quite some time to come. Professional athletes like Pogba are probably less likely to get those issues, but a small deterioration will end up making a far bigger impact on them than a normal person.

Chances are it'll be nothing, but it's worrying.

If we can't beat Palace at home without any one player we're really in for a struggle this season.
