After watching Fred in the EL semi against Sevilla I actually feel much better about our options rotating with Metic in the 6 role. All he has to do is provide that bite and energy without constantly giving the ball away. Think we look for another DM next summer

Cant find it now as everything thats on google about him now is in regards to him signing with us however you do have a quote by Frank De boer his first senior coach on DVB's wikipedia and all over that his best position is number 6.
If Frank De Boer thought so, could be something to that. Bottom line just dont agree with this notion that hes primarily an attacking player.
Seems to me yes he can do the attacking part but he can do everything else as well. Hes a complete midfielder. Probably more of a Modric/Rakitic than Pogba/Bruno (primarily offensive players)

I like Fred as he provides that constant aggression, energy and bite in midfield but he needs to improve his touches and being calmer especially when getting pressed. Otherwise, he is almost a perfect candidate for that DM slot.
Most of the teams nowadays don't play with that tall CF and long ball to bypass that midfield press anymore, but if one of they do, there's always Matic. Just that I don't think he can play too many games anymore. He could be deployed like Carrick in certain games.
