Previously, Newcastle were close to signing Rob Holding on loan, but Arsenal put the transfer on hold. Now, Arteta wants to keep Holding and have him compete for the starting positions.

Im really surprised Bruce hasn’t tried for Smalling. Would be a great buy for them.
He maybe did, but there is no point. Roma is a better club and city. I think he enjoys it in Italy rather than going to a midtable club in the north of England. Nothing against Newcastle, but Roma is just the better proposition.

Would help us with our negotiations with Roma. I'm sure they would be interested if Smalling is certain to go to Rome.
Smalling doesn't want to go to Newcastle. He was linked with them about 2 weeks ago or so
To further reinforce what @dev1l said, Smalling has also agreed personal terms with Roma, so Newcastle are practically out of the picture unless Roma screw us over big time.

He's still quite reliable even if he's not a mouthpiece for the club. He has good sources at both Manchester clubs, so if he comes out with anything, then there's always something to it.
Thanks - the inner muppet is excited

United sign a two-time world cup winner. Also shortlisted for the 2019 Women's Balon d'Or

So, do Woodie & Judge also oversea and negotiate the deals for the Women's team? Or are there two separate boards altogether? Any idea @jojojo?

I don't know. I know Casey is very personally involved in selling the club to the players. I think one of Judge's crew will manage the details, presumably via a US agency. These deals have all the usual media rights, work permits, logistics issues - albeit with a lot less money involved.

I got the trial but I found it very underwhelming to be honest.
I follow a lot of the football writers on twitter and many of them moved from various newspapers to the Athletic once it entered the UK market so I was a little bit curious to see what the standard was like. Twitter headlines make it look like the dog's Bo**ox but yeah, it's not great.
Agreed, I do like some of their tactical analysis and Ornstein's stuff but besides that not great. As an American it is top notch for college sports. I got a deal where it was $30-40 for the year and I check it every couple days but probably won't renew.

This thread (Fridge and all) is better than my Athletic subscription in regards to United and other European teams.

They're all pivoting to the Fabrizio Romano position on the status of wages and agents' fees.

Maybe he can get that China move? Gets paid by Real to leave early and then get paid silly money in China. Living the dream.
If he gets paid to leave then that frees him up to take a deal wherever he wants. He can ‘afford’ to take £200k a week instead of £600k cos he already got paid.

I could see a free transfer back to Spurs or MLS.

I’d take him at Utd for 2-3yrs on £250k on a free transfer.

Delaying a move just for some bonus to trigger that's tied to England caps is opportunism cranked up to 11. That aside, if you really want out while still having 3 years on a contract with no RC, you'll probably take distance from such ideas
They only have one career and you can get an injury which ends it. €1.5m is probably 1/4 of his career earnings to date.

Some perspective on the Reguilon links:

Basically, just because we've been offered Reguilon doesn't necessarily mean that we're actively pursuing him. Another thing to consider is the fact that the player may want to return to Real Madrid in a few years or Real Madrid may want him back.

Are there people who have subscribed for theathletic?
Do you feel happy with the subscription?

I didn't want to open a whole thread, nor I want to derail this one.
Curious. I forgot to cancel just before the trial ran out, don't see anything fancy or worthy in there.
They do great long read stories. Insightful pieces and much better written than tabloid drivel.

Keeping Nainggolan around will give them good depth for Europe, but I'm not sure if he'll necessarily play that much for Inter in general. Brozovic is a surefire starter. Barella will also become a regular. The 3rd midfield spot is up for grabs, however, and at the moment, I see Gagliardini, Eriksen, and Nainggolan competing for it. Vecino will be a bench option, and Sensi might be loaned out or eventually sold.

EDIT: Quotes from the Cagliari president

Have you not learnt anything from the Rooney, Sanchez and dare I say it De Gea deals?
