Actually its two (Telles/Regulon and Torres) as Shaw is always injured. It would also mean allowing us to get rid of the deadwood (Smalling, Jones, Mata, Periera, Rojo and co) while giving Ole the option to rest players.
Shaw has been very good for 2 seasons now so he wont be replaced as starter that easily imo. Dont forget we actually have to get smalling, Jones, Mata, Andreas and Rojo out the door before getting other players in.

We obviously need better bench options, that much is glaringly obvious. Getting Sancho for 108m would allow us to have Greenwood as a bench option, with the midfield being strong enough on the bench already after VDB coming in. The LB and CB options being week is small concern but not the end of the world for us.

The question of spending 108m on Sancho or spending that money on all our weaker area is subjective. Our defence was very good last season regardless of what oppostion fans say. It is our attack that needs sorting before anything else. Our quality in depth Is atrocious and we'll need a striker in January too. Sancho is the level of talent we need to bring in now.

So Atletico Madrid can spend over 120 mil. euros on Joao Felix, but Manchester United can not spend 120 mil. eu on Sancho ? Seems legit..

Its proven yet again how incompetent our "transfer team" is, especially the boardroom Chuckle Brothers - Ed Woodward and Matt Judge.

Chelsea already signed 6 quality players and theres rumours of new GK incoming so probably 7. And the mighty Man Utd only 1. Wont be surprised if we dont sign anyone else this window. People at the top of this club are terrible should be sacked each one of them, unfortunately it aint gon happen under our current owners.

Dortmund playing today, bro? If so, would be the announcement prior to kick-off?
Funny if Sancho is in the team. Maybe he'll play a half with Dortmund, then run out in the second half in a United kit

Can someone help out with statistics on Shaw's injury record beyond that horrific injury playing a European game? Granted it took him a long time to recover which is pretty normal. He was voted our player of the season prior to last season and really had a good season last. You could noticeably see the drop in quality once he was not in the team.

Are you serious? Did you watch our games last season when we had to rely on our reserves? They were hopeless. Therefore if we can't get Sancho then let's at least spend the money on reserves. Telles would provide us with a proper LB whenever Shaw gets injured. That means Williams would move to RB thus allowing us to sell Dalot. Pukki would provide us with good cover/competition for Martial. It would mean that we can play Greenwood as RW were he did so well for us. Brooks on the other hand is a young and promising RW which would allow us to rest Greenwood every now and then. Lingard is shit and Mata is finished as a player. Torres on the other hand is a decent left footed CB who would compliment Maguire. Telles (22m), Brooks (30m), Pau Torres (44m) and Pukki (20m) would pave the clean up we need which would see Dalot, Periera, Lingard, Mata, Smalling, Jones and possibly Rojo. That would drive the expenses down.
I was specifically addressing your point where you complained that we couldn't beat villa in a warm-up game. It's a silly thing to say, as is suggesting we sign a 30 yr old striker with Pukki's goal scoring record.

I don't doubt we need to strengthen but our worst performances came before Christmas when we were without Pogba, either one of Martial or Rashford and hadn't yet bought Bruno or Donny so I don't think it's as bleak as all that.

What an atrocious example

João Felix was a disaster of a signing for that money and shows how badly things can go wrong

Plus it was pre-covid and A.Madrid primary brought Felix having got 107 million for Griezmann.
It is just a poor example.

For what its worth I agree with you.
I think Sancho is a luxury buy because I do believe we have world class front 3 but we are pretty weak elsewhere. Getting a new FB would go a long way. Getting a better CB would go a long way. Then you add two good attacking players off the bench? What a great team that would be.
No he's not a luxury signing. He's an excellent player that would help us big time in winning the EPL. However if our owners can't afford a Ferrari then they should at least buy a bus ticket. The alternative would be to walk it to home.

He missed two chunks of last season 38 days and 44 and before that it was concussion for 11 days the season before.

Prior to that he was injury free for a couple of seasons so no he isn't always injured.

However, him getting the player of the year was more an indication of how terrible everyone else was imo. I'm not really sold on him, but you're right the team function better with him in it but I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that he's the only natural LB in the squad. We definitely need another one as back up and to provide competition for him.

But it wouldn't be a bus ticket. It would be a 5 years pass what you have to pay even if the company doesn't operate anymore.

Shaw will always miss games and if Telles do well during that time then I can't see Shaw making a comeback afterwards. Having the 3rd best defence in a league were most defences were crap isn't that great. We conceded more goals then we did in the past 4 years bar last season (were Mou lost the dressing room). Defence does need strengthening.

Complete myth that Shaw is always injured. His record compared to two other players since 16/17.

Shaw - 5 injuries - 269 days missed
Pogba - 7 injurues - 289 days missed
Martial - 15 injuries - 144 days missed.

So he missed one of the most days?

First season of VAR may have impacted defending particularly at set pieces. Obviously some goals were chalked off as well but it would be interesting to see some analysis.

Cheers for the info. I thought it was a myth Shaw always being injured. Yes, it would be great to sign another left-footer.

Not the most though to be constantly called out on it. Neither of the other two are when they are mentioned.
Martial is always mentioned what are you on about
