The only reason I still have hope that this will happen is that Dortmund have not come out and made a clear and unambiguous statement.

They could easily end this by saying

"We keep hearing about deals being done for Jadon Sancho but would like to state that he is not for sale this window and will 100% not be leaving the club."
Well, they made one on 10th August.

The problems the club has is not about the lack of spending its done over the past few years though. It’s wholly to do with failing to prepare for SAF’s retirement properly and the haphazard signings/footballing direction since that point.

I don’t know the figures exactly, but I’d wager we’ve outspent Liverpool and Bayern over the past few years, and maybe Real? Lack of spending is not the root cause of our failings. You could argue going after marquee and big name signings hasn’t helped though.

I’d love to see Sancho play for us. He’s exciting, young and obviously has massive potential. I’d genuinely rather strengthen the squad with a couple more quality players though that compliment our style and give us genuine rotation options. Think it’d be more beneficial in the long run.
First of all, go watch our net spend. Second go see when we spend the money. Then see the quality of the players that we buy. I will tell you why we buy players that are not on our level.
What is happening at you club, is that we miss out on CL. Then we go out and spend LOTS of money on players who are in between Europa League and Champions league quality. Good enough to compete in Europa League, not good enough to compete in Champions League.
Basically we buy players that are willing to play in Europa League (Sancho is not, that is why we didnt buy him last year and why we wont buy him next year)
when we miss out on CL football, other clubs know that we want to get back there and have to spend money, so they rinse lots of money from us for average talent. Then next year we have (usually have) CL football, Glazers have achieved their goal and dont want to spend money. Average talent will get their 25% increase to their wages because of CL football. We don't have enough money to spent to achieve anything good (because of the financial restrictions the Glazers have put on ourselves), so we will miss out on CL football. And the circle happens again, but now we have bad players, on high wages who cant go to other clubs because they are not good enough but get paid more money then they should.

And now the other reason. This is because Edward Woodward is a monkey at the wheel. He will drive somewhere, but doesn't really know where, just keeps steering us, maybe to the edge of the cliff, maybe to the promised land, but either way it won't be because he knows where, or how. Like our transfers starting from Fellaini. He waited out the transfer clause to expire just because he thought he would get better price later. Spoiler - he didn't. Mata was bench warmer for Chelsea when we paid 46 million pounds for him. He was not the same players that he was when he came to the league. But chelsea rinsed us, because they are much better run football club.
Then we bought Di Maria for 75 million, when Real Madrid were desperate to get rid of him. Again. well run football club against our muppets. That is what happens.
Then Schneiderlin, Depay and Darmian. all players who are not on our level for stupid prices.
Our only good window was 2016 when Mino Raiola single handedly negotiated with Juve, BVB and with us. He got us Zlatan, Mikhi and Pogba.
Then Alexis happened. Edward paid so much just because City wanted Alexis on a free. But still Jose got us second in the league. With Pogba injured many months. I really believe that was Jose at his best. In every other season that would have been our league title. And then came the summer when we really needed to spend money. Second in the league, back in the Champions League. we had won against City, we knew that we could compete with them, maybe were better than them, we just needed to spend, get Jose what he wanted. And we didnt. He wanted Maguire. Leicester City wanted 60 mil for him. Edward wouldn't pay that. thought he would get him cheaper. (got him year later for 80 mil) Edward Woodward bought Jose 3rd goalkeeper, right back for our reserves and 3rd choice DM.
And all because Glazers had already achieved what they wanted. CL football.
remember when Jose came out and said that if this was any other FC, he would quit on the spot? It was not out of respect for Glazers and Woodward. It was out of respect for Sir Alex, Sir Bobby and the crest.
Spending and spending is different. Look at Chelsea. They buy good players because they know that those players are good enough for Real Madrid. They know that they can flip any on them into bigger money every season. Chelsea are making money every year. Just like RM are. RM are selling good players every year. because they have good scouting and they trust their scouting. Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, PSG. They are all run buy good businessmen. We on the other hand are run by people who go and offer 60 million to BVB for Sancho. Wage cut to Sancho.
We were That football club in 2003. We are far from that now. That is not because of 'Rona, or the climate. There is only one problem in our football club and it is the Glazers. Woodward and Judge and every inadequate person running our transfers is starting from Glazers.

No such thing when bidding for a player. If Dortmund accept say 80m off Madrid next summer, then Utd, Liverpool, and whoever else wont come along and say "hang on, ill give you 90":lol::lol: They'll all just match it.

Only on contracts does it happen.
Exactly. Everytime I hear this crap about bidding war, its rubbish. There is never a bidding war on a player because like you said, teams will match it.

When buying a player the agent knows the fee, the agent will say £80m will secure him, then the war comes to agent fees and Salary..

If Dortmund lower their demands from 120m to 80m, do you really think clubs can afford him next year?
The big IF. Yes, Chelsea, City, Real will all be able to afford him and if Liverpool sell they will too.

I genuinely don't get this line of thinking.

If it did get down to next year, we'd still be well in the mix for him and I'd back us to get him ahead of anyone. We got ahead of everyone else before the markets were fecked and we are relatively more insulated than the rest right now thanks to our commercial strength. If it comes to a sale next year, the price will drop down as Dortmund won't be having any capacity crowds in either and unlike us, are dependent on gate receipts to a much higher degree. Sancho's priorities, according to Ornstein, are firstly CL footy and financial package. For me the first is 70% likely, and the second is guaranteed. As I said, we blew the rest out of the water pre-Covid and that was at a time when we were really struggling on the pitch, and if our financial position won't improve, neither will it for the rest. In fact, if we managed to get agreement on wages and contract etc just last week, shouldn't that tell you that the package required to bring him in wouldn't be posing us any problems?

Is it a risk that we don't get CL footy next season? Maybe, but I'd back our midfield and attack against any defence and opposition midfield in a one-off game and the strength of those two would see us overcome the vast majority of other teams and unlike last year where Pereira and Lingard were among our most played players, we'll have Bruno and Greenwood from the start as well as a fit and fresh Pogba and Rashford. For me, it's a given that we'd improve this coming season, but that having Sancho in now, would have seen that margin of improvement increase markedly.
First of all, we would be in the mix but that does not guarantee anything. We did not get ahead of anyone, there is no proof whatsoever we got ahead of anyone for anything. Who said we will have more crowd capacity than Dortmund? Germany are probably one of the best equipped in dealing with this virus, they will have capacity crows before we do.

Ornstein can say what he wants, a year in football is a long time. If we are 20 points of the title again and Liverpool are in for him, he will think Manutd are going nowhere... I would rather join a club which can win trophies. We managed to find a suitable financial package doesnt mean other clubs wouldn't. Let me give you an example. Thiago would go to Liverpool for a lower wage than United, which tells you where United are at at the moment.

Looks like it meant something to Dortmund, we tried calling their bluff on it and were left looking stupid.
We'll never know really given whether before or after the date we haven't met the figure they want.

I don't think the deadline meant anything, they've just not budged in the price and the structure. That's where we've been left looking stupid, chasing a dead end because we can't afford that.

I want sancho as much as any utd fan, but I respect the fact that utd are standing strong on the fact that 120m is unrealistic in current times. Dortumd are holding out, so let's just walk away. Utd and other clubs like pool are clearly looking long term, no one knows when fans will be allowed back to games. Match day money is massive. Lack of it is dangerous so why put a club in danger by overspending. In these times we have to be clever and cautious, unfortunately.
What you're pointing out is a fair point. If the price is over what we can afford, so be it.

However, that doesn't imply strength, it actually imply indecisiveness. Dortdmund have the right to value their assets to whatever price they think they deserve. Our strength should've came a while ago by simply figuring out that Dortmund won't budge and moving on to plan B.

Going into the summer window knowing what is our budget, knowing that Dortmund value their player at 120 millions, knowing that the manager would like his squad to be assembled ASAP, we should have started these negotiations even before the market opened, by 2 or 3 weeks in, we could have figured out that they won't budge, explain it to our manager that his priority target is not attainable, whether we can pursue him next window or not, and moved to Plan B. That to me is what strength is.

We all love United
Anyone still on board the Sancho train? I think i'm getting off soon. We reached 1000 pages yesterday and ironically this was the page that probably killed all hopes of him coming

They've also used intermediaries and not cooperated with us directly, knowing this would slow it down completely. We haven't heard anything substantial since that deadline passed, just that we've made 'progress' with the agent but nothing has been fully agreed with them, never mind Dortmund.

The whole window has been a mess so far, only one signing and one outgoing.

Yep, they are gambling that next summer there will be more competition (I'm not sure there will be tbh)

I don't think it's been a mess yet, because as we've seen with DVB we can move swiftly. I'm just pretty annoyed we've spent so long chasing Sancho down when it's clear we have no intention of paying the price quoted. We should have redrawn the plans, especially as we know our finances better than anyone

Its simple. Manchester United is no longer a big club. We are not an attraction to super star players anymore and we have a bunch of incoherent buffoons in charge of transfers meaning we can never attract the top tier players here again our level is now players from Villa/Leicester/Palace which is an absolute shame we can simply never attract the Hazards and Sanchos of this world again I hope the glazers and Woodward have nothing but bad luck in their lives

I think that day marked the expiry date of the inofficial RC. They didn't budge, because they don't want to sell him in the first place.

I find it strange they have the need to keep repeating that he's staying.
Their behavior on the matter has undoubtedly been weird and a tad cringeworthy.

Sancho wants to join us. We're clearly a big club and miles bigger than Dortmund, for example. But we seem to be poorly run to not be able to afford Sancho despite our stature.

Nobody wants to sell a player like Sancho. But they would have if a huge bid came in, and they definitely will next summer. Just not convinced anymore that its going to be to us.

It's a win win for them, they try and force our hand to pay the full price or they look like they've done us over and kept their prized asset.

Ah, maybe. Either way, prior to the RC they weren't going to sell him for any less either so theyve never moved on what it would take to get him.

Think we screwed up here. It was always known the price was €120m, I don’t believe the 10 August deadline as that was ridiculous, we finished our season days before. However, Ole hasn’t been backed this window and if we don’t make top 4, then why would Sancho join next summer? The price isn’t even going to be lower, if Covid is resolved by next summer (on a personal level I hope so) then it could be higher given the Euros.

Ole must be fuming and rightly so, he delivered on his end of the bargain and the board have done him over here. Ole should be given a free pass this coming season, if you’re not going to be backed, then how is he able to progress the club forward? Our front 3 are fantastic but we needed quality, One of the three would have dropped to the bench, most likely Mason which in turn would have made our starting line up stronger and bench stronger.

I don’t believe Bale is the answer either, he doesn’t even look bothered to play, and it pretty much goes against what Ole wants. We binned of Sanchez and are now looking at Bale? Even on a one year loan, it only takes one bad egg.

Perhaps I’m wrong and they pull off an amazing coup the next few weeks, but it’s looking like Ole has been fecked here.

There can’t be many clubs with the patience to not strengthen a key position two summers in a row because they can’t get the player - the same player both times - they want.

Still a long way to go in the window. Could go either way but the club will be aware how incompetent they’ll look if they don’t get it done and you can bet Ole is pressuring Ed to find a solution. Dortmund are a huge irritant but all we have to do is pay up.
The solution will be Bale

We're still among the 4 best teams in the premier league IMO so we should be finishing in the top 4 again. However, if the likes of Liverpool (Klopp, top team) or Chelsea (the team he's a fan of?) go for him, think he could well sign for them over us. Especially if their relationship with Dortmund is better than ours. We will no doubt go back for Sancho again, but remains to be seen what the players desires at that stage are, and which clubs are in for him.

He definitely hasn't been desperate enough (to join us )to kick up a storm this summer, that much is clear. Let's see what happens in the future.

I was hopeful all summer but I'm off the Sancho train as well. I said last week that a deal will be unlikely if there is no positive movement by Monday. It seems its gotten stuck or even gone the other way unfortunately.

Not happening.

We hold no cards in the negotiation, but if we cave and offer them something they like the look of €80m now, €20m next year, €20m the year after, then they might just accept. Theres been lots of specuation that Dortmund want the €120m upfront, but theres been nothing to back that up. Reports say they want €120m guaranteed, with no addons etc, regardless of how easy they might be to acheive. Seems like Ed wants to go down the route of addons to try and lower the price a bit
Their chairman said it way back in July and even set the final date when it could be done so no speculation

I still think United will have another go before the window closes, but I don't know if the deal will be enough for Dortmund.

I also hop Dortmund will not get anything like £120m for him next year as they'll be dealing with tough negotiators.

Well, this current BVB squad isn't the worst to be in. Staying there for another year with Haaland & Co., while waiting for the Rona woes to subside a bit, probably isn't a too scary thought to him

When do we think the cut off point would be in Dortmund actually accepting a €120m bid? I mean it would be just like us to cave and pay it in the final week, but surely Dortmund won't accept that late in the day?
