People should be happy that this is about over. People have complained about wasting time on deals that wouldn't happen then this is one case were it ended quickly. Real sticking with their buy back clause made this deal a non starter and I'm glad things seemingly ended quickly rather than drag for weeks on. This way we could focus on another potential deal with another player if we're willing to still look for LB.

If Spurs are sticking in a bay-back clause, they can have him.

What's the hope - that he does well, but not so well Real swoop back in season or two?
Their hope is he helps get them top four this season, then they’ll worry about his replacement.

Once again we had the chance to kick on this season and actually become competitive in winning trophies and once again we have failed as a club.

If this guy want to go back to Madrid in the future, so be it, he ain’t for us but from the outside it’s all starting to look embarrassing.

Will the cnuts that run our club react? I hope so but I doubt it.

I can understand why the club won’t accept the clause but there is an air of superiority from our board that simply doesn’t match the current state of our club. We are an elite club in name only.
It's not about superiority it's about squad planning. It doesn't make sense to buy him then in 2 seasons buy another LB because RM decided they wanted him. And once you accept a buyback clause from RM, then that sets the precedent for other big clubs to do the same.

Forget investment, at least the leeches will get their nice yearly dividend soon since that's all the club is good for in their eyes seemingly

Will be disappointed to miss out on him, especially to Spurs.
Not at all, his head is in Madrid before even setting foot in England. This just shows all that talk about 'loving' to play for us was BS agent talk.

I don't think folk in this thread have realised that football has modernised. Teams can with titles with loaned-in players, and players with buy-back clauses. He would be a great wee player for an incredible price. The worst scenario is that we make a profit on him after getting to play him a couple of years.

If he doesn't want to play for United, then obviously that is another matter.

Glad we're not giving into their buy back clause. I bet we were remotely interested but most likely were used to get Spurs off their arse to sign him. Levy is RM's bitch.

Apparently, he does. We have had an agreement with him for days. It's now between United and Madrid to seal the deal. Spurs, however, are taking a different direction; they're looking to get an agreement with Madrid first before getting Reguilon's agreement.

Man we just can’t get anything done can we
You can't seriously blame the club for this one. I mean would you have accepted those terms if you were in charge? A buy back clause? I'm glad we aren't suckers to accommodate and develop Reguilon for the next 2 years, essentially a loan deal so Madrid can swoop in 2 years later and take him back.

Somebody asked him earlier 'to Spurs' and he replied 'Man Utd'. Its been posted on this thread already.

He's back tracking a lot now. He's a fraud when it comes to United news and PL news. He needs to stick to what he knows. Serie A

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
I never thought he was the right profile really. We want a 20/21 year old to come in and offer backup to shaw now with the potential to replace him in a few years. Reguilon is at the profile where he should be the first choice every week.

We are one of the biggest clubs in the world. Simple as.
So are Juventus. They signed Morata on identical terms and got to a CL final with him.

We need to get over ourselves a bit. We’re massive, no denying, but we haven’t been at the very top from a pure footballing perspective for a while. Unless we’re going to sign an alternative of similar quality, this is an opportunity lost.

I hope the fee for the buy back clause is release. I wanna know how much will that be. Suspect it will be closer to 30M they are going to pay than say 40 or 50M

Don't you know, buy-backs are only acceptable for tinpot clubs like Juventus and Atletico...

At least take the €25m you prepped for this and slam it onto the Sancho fund. I’ll take the gamble of Shaw potentially being out for 10 weeks from a gust of wind this season.

Why are people mad? If Spurs are happy to bend over and be a feeder club then let them. I'm glad we have stood firm and rejected the buy back clause.

Nah. If he turns out to be top quality then Real Madrid are signing him straight back anyway so it’s not like Spurs are getting one over on us. That’s why it’s silly agreeing to buy back clauses it’s basically if the player turns out good you lose him and if he’s shite you’re stuck with him.

100% with the club on this one.

Why we'd want to develop a player so Madrid can have him back in a year or two is beyond me. Better off looking elsewhere at Telles.

For his sake though, I'd be questioning whether I'd want to play as a 3rd CB for Spurs. Which is 100% where he will play with Spurs full back game plan.

Pretty stupid from Spurs.

They accept the risk of him flopping and being a poor signing but don't get the potential upside of him being really good and staying with them for years. What's the point? All risk, no potential reward.
