Its madness. Dortmund will want the same amount and structure of payments in the last week of the window as they did at the start of the window. Didnt work with bruno or maguire, we paid what the selling club wanted both times.
I agree! I think it’s just the club justifying not paying. It seems like the club are pretending they are negotiating, when in reality Dortmund’s approach to the transfer has been clear.

I, for one, believe the guys who make their money telling transfer tales on a podcast called The Transfer Podcast. They'd have no reason to lie. It's not like it'll help Dunc's hair grow back.

Why would they be desperate to sell him? he's one of their top performers and his value won't drop dramatically regardless.
It has been BVB's plan to sell this summer for a long long time and this issue has been discussed many times already.

Sancho could get a career limiting injury, he could dramatically lose form, another new superstar target could emerge, money in the bank now in case covid19 economy doesn't recover in 2020/21, maybe there will be no competition for him next year etc etc.

There are many uncertainties which is very risky for a club who needs to sell players to stay afloat in long term. All just to gain an extra £10m.

So, we will maybe get a further discount if we wait until the last week? And there was me questioning this one.... Bring back the 3 amigos on the last day while we at it.

They'll make very little money from the podcast.

Let me get this straight.... United want to lowball till the last minute, then expect Dortmund to sell an asset they don't need to sell this very moment without giving them time to buy a replacement. And the club or "a source" has briefed Mr Ian McGarry of the uh, Transfer Window Podcast, to broadcast this information in public?

I'm not entirely sure what our so called 'acceptable price range' is because we haven't made a single bid nor has there been any rumours.

Shouldn't we at least test the waters with a EUR 95 million opening bid?

If we can't even make EUR 95 million then why are we wasting our time here?

Exactly this.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham (Bale and regulion if possible) have all reinforced this summer while United are the only club in the Champions League contender places to do so.
Get a bad feeling that the cycle will continue. They should realise that sending in a small squad with no quality reinforcements will not only hamper the current season, but also the next season as Champions league football cannot be achieved. We'll just end up in the drains with not many players wanting to join. Total Meltdown and depression :houllier::nono:

Either this one is done (United have arranged a deal) or Woodward is an even bigger moron than he seems. No way Dortmund sell at the last minute for anything less than 120 and if Utd are offering it, why not just offer it now? We can probably win the league and do well in champions league with Sancho. Without him 4th is a struggle.

Just speculation to get on the Sancho bandwagon from this new guy. No way we are leaving our only primary target and try to sign him in the last week of the window.
And the view that Dortmund is going to cave in is absolutely unfounded, all evidence suggests the contrary.

In most of these situations the player has to express some desire or unhappiness but no sign of that till now.

Very probable we'll end up with Costa/ Perisic and worst case if the club has gone bonkers, probably no one

Meanwhile, we're haggling over €2m for Smalling and will end up paying him £5-6m in wages over the next year instead of selling for €13m, meaning it's a net negative of €20m, which is pretty much the difference between us and BvB for Sancho.

Such a weird mentality. Why would anyone want this to happen?

I want us to get Sancho, and for less than Dortmund want. Because I'm a Man Utd fan.
The same people would be the first to moan if we paid the RRP in July. Not worth your effort mate.

Or gross negligence from Dortmund. It will be their fault for dragging this out so long. Despite all their public statements, BVB also desperately want to sell this window, to minimise their own risk on a huge financial asset. Anyway, Im sure Dortmund have a list of viable replacements and already done all the due diligence required to complete a signing within 48 hours.

I know everybody hates Woodward, but try seeing it from his point of view just for one moment. I believe he has true desire to sign Sancho, but also has the clubs financial interests to consider. I applaud him for trying to get this deal over the line, and also think that if it fails, it's because it was financially beyond our means.
Common sense would suggest that a club who don’t have to sell one of their most valuable assets, won’t offer a discount to a club that spent the whole of lockdown bigging up their ability to exploit the circumstances surrounding the lockdown.

it shouldn’t take this far into the window to determine whether or not Dortmund are bluffing, and we should be identifying and working on other targets until the moment a deal for Sancho becomes a reality.

But by all accounts, that’s not happened. Which is the embodiment of incompetence.

Because our board are a disgrace, and deserve every bit of criticism thrown at them

When was the last time Castles got something right regarding us?
I'm surprised anyone still bothers with him, every season he keeps making up some outlandish claims that never turn out to be true.

Highly doubt that people would be moaning if we got him in for their asking price in July at all. Think it'd be the opposite really as we'd have a genuine feel good factor heading into the season

When he reported Jose had been sacked.
That's the thing though, it's pretty clear he has good relations with Jose, seems to know his stuff when it's related to him, hasn't seemed to be the case with us at least, since Jose left though.

The moans over the price would surely come after once the games have started not before

We'd hear it the minute he misplaced a pass for sure , don't think there'd be much complaints prior though honestly. The excitment of a proper new number.7 would easily drown any groans out

Castles seems to make these claims as though he’s closer to the club than anyone, none of which ever turn out to me true? Is that just me?

So you would be happier for our board to be mugged off, than to get a top player for a good price ?
We never seem to have that luxury.

It’s more often or not a case of being mugged off or missing out.

I can’t remember the last time we sold/bought where I thought fair play to those handling the negotiation process.

Van De Beek?
By all accounts Ajax had shopped him around, and United had an advantage thanks to Van Der Sar. It’s good business, but It’s not the sort of thing I’m talking about.

Was thinking more Chelsea signing Havertz for £15 Million less than quoted.

Chelsea easily bought Hakim Ziyech from Ajax. Chelsea don't have any strong van-der-Sar-like connections.

When Ajax are getting what they want, they don't slow down the transfers. If anything, the past couple of instances that Ajax were involved in prolonged transfers were due to the players (Frenkie de Jong, de Ligt).

So, what are we dealing with here?

Are they saying that we're purposely delaying the deal because it's better to book accounting losses within the next quarter rather than in the present one?

Just seems like a desperate idea that fans tell themselves so they won't have to wake up and smell the coffee.
