When was the last time there was only 1 out of the 4 #1 and #2 seeds in either of the conference finals?

Ridiculous play from Bam.

Just to think over a year ago Popovich didn't think this guy was good enough for team USA he chose Plumlee over Bam.

30 Points is what makes you a very good player. As a Top 5 player you need to do more than that in three straight games.

Last year is a bad comparison. Most people did not expect anything from Kawhi (this time he was in the spotlight) - and they just won the title because the Warriors' best player could not participate.
I see what you mean. Still on paper they had more than enough not to end this way. Thing is they chopped and changed the team, added and released players so it never gelled and they made a mess out of it with.

1990 Playoffs if my research is correct. That's 30 years, wow.

Also surprised at how many times a #1 seed doesn't make it to the conference finals. Didn't know that it happens so often.

Playoff P  I don’t mind Clippers in general, I like Kawhi and they were a team I saw first live at Staples last year so there’s some novelty about them but Beverley, Morris and George are easily among the least likeable players around. Especially Bev.

I'm not a Kawhi fan at all. The way he left San Antonio was quite distasteful IMO. He is just as unlikable as the others. Except Beverley...he is in a tier of his own.

Why George?
I mean yeah he's trash in playoffs but why is he unlikable.

George has made such a turnaround. I really liked him when he was up and coming with the Pacers before the leg injury.

He's a trash talker that hasn't actually achieved anything to back that up. Was so sweet when Dame took that shot over him last year virtually ending his Thunder career there. His trash talking after Clippers v Blazers game in the bubble was also quite appaling.

I see the Clippers still haven’t stepped up. Bold strategy. Let’s see if it pays off for them.

Btw Dame's shot last year was one of the greatest moments in nba history i don't care what anyone else says. Everything about it was movie stuff

The Clippers traded more first round picks (5) for Paul George than field goals he made (4)

Just read about that Dame - George beef. Yeah PG seems all bark no bite kind of guy. Also whenever you give yourself a nickname that never ends well.

Ouch, didn't take you as a casual. Is he better on defense? Yes he is. Is he MUCH better? Hell no!
Zubac is a very good rim protector and a good defender in general

Jokic is a poor defender in general. I stand by that much better

I'm going Heat in 7, Lakers in 6 and then Heat in 6 :D

Love the Heat. As much as people want to big up Buttler, they are so much more than him and a massive effort from guys like Dragic, Herro, Adebayo etc.

NBA is so fixated with their 'stars' and 'top 5' nonsense that it would be great to see a team without any of those win it.

Last I can remember of a similar team doing this was Detroit in 2004.

Clippers really are an unlikeable team this year. I like Kawhi but agree he didn't cover himself in glory the year he wanted out of San Antonio.

That implosion couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch. And Pandemic P just reinforcing that belief with his bitterness since last night.

Whoever won the game
Lakers in 7 with a heartbreaking, close last game for Nuggets after going 3-1 down. :wenger:
 Good one.

Would like to see Nuggets react to being in the front seat, for once.

They might recover Will Barton but he is out of form so unlikely to make that much of an impact. Balanced roster, very motivated, could do well even v Lakers.

Same goes for Morris and Pat Bev. I didn't really care much about this Clippers team but they behaved like they had already won the ring the whole season and weren't able to back it up, and some of the behaviour of these guys didn't go down well to be honest so it's kinda good riddance. Morris especially is a coward and a thug who went out trying to injure a kid having his second NBA season because him and his team had no answer to him.

I don't know. Other teams have done that. Hell, the Lakers have done it this year!
How is Leonard a top 5 player and at the same time he had three 0-points 4th quarters against the Nuggets?
Yesterday, he had 2 in the second half!!

It's just weird to classify or not classify him as a top 5 player based on this series (or even playoffs alone). How did consensus top 3 player Giannis do against Boston? How did Harden do against the Lakers?

There are countless arguments to include Kawhi in a top 5 and most NBA followers would have him there. Not having him there means you have Doncic, Lillard, Jokic, maybe even Kemba Walker over him. I'd say there are arguments to have Hardin over him but not if you dismiss Kawhi based on these playoffs because Harden has done nothing in his entire career in the playoffs, so that doesn't hold up then.

Curry and Durant are injured, it's been a long time since Kyrie was at the top of his game... I think I probably have argued against it myself this season but Kawhi is a top 5 player for a lot of people and rightly so.

Did not mean to. Sorry. Just tried to make the point.

Hmm.... look, I am not a fan of top 5, GOAT, MVP etc. discussions.
But he is only in the Top 5 category because of what he did last season. Granted, he had a great series against Philly, but Durant decided the final.

This season, he did not further cement his place in the Top 5. On the contrary he clearly underachieved, during the season and in the playoffs.

My top 5 picks would rather be LeBron, AD, Durant, Curry, Butler, Giannis, Harden, Lillard, Jokic .... plenty of players in front of him.

Two of that list haven't played an entire season - agreed about LeBron, AD and Giannis.

Jimmy Butler isn't even a top 10 player in the league though, having a very good postseason doesn't change that. If you argue Leonard did nothing in the regular season, nothing about Miami's #5 seed screams "Jimmy Butler was awesome this year" either.

Harden, Lilard and Jokic might've had a better season and/or postseason that Kawhi this year yes, so if you're going on a season-long basis he maybe hasn't been top 5. In general though he most definitely is ahead of those players because of his past playoff credentials. He's still the reigning Finals MVP.

There’s a reason why the Nuggets have a better defence with Jokic on than off.

Everybody thinks he’s a bad defender and tries to target him on the court but he gets himself in positions where he just doesn’t concede that many 3s and shots at the rim. Sure he’s going to concede some shots, but he’s going to make you take less optimal shots which helps his team.

The more people keep believing he’s a bad defender, the better it works out for the Nuggets.

Hopefully Nuggets beat the Clippers tmrw night. Lakers v. Celtics would be dream scenario for the NBA.
Agreed. Would prefer Miami in the final because I really like that organization and admire the way they build their teams around a set culture, but Boston would have some great storylines. I also think Boston would provide the hardest matchup for the Lakers - Jaylen can guard LeBron and the Lakers don't really have anyone who can properly shut down Tatum, meanwhile AD would destroy Theis on the inside.
These 2 teams have won too many titles already. Miami Nuggets would be better

Not in a while. It’s been a whole decade. Honestly even if the Nuggets beat LA they won’t be even be competitive against either of those two. Fatigue will eventually kick in and the Lakers match up better against the East teams.

Nothing in my analysis was based on historic winningness, but I agree the Nuggets are a great story and it would be awesome to see them win. From a pure basketball perspective, I'd rather see the Lakers in the finals, and here's why - the Nuggets don't pose the same intriguing matchups for Miami as LA does. Seeing how Miami would try to shut down Jokic would be the biggest draw for me as a neutral. I think the Heat have the right type of defenders to shut down Murray and not give Harris the space to get off good 3pt looks, which means it would ultimately come down to whether Jokic could carry the team. But as I said, I'd be more than happy with a Nuggets-Heat final and I'd be curious to see if they could sustain their offense against a team that defends as well as Miami.

Weird reasoning, how does them winning titles in the 80s impact your experience of them facing off right now?

It’s the most well-known rivalry in basketball. No one but some football hipsters would prefer Leipzig-Atalanta in the CL final over Liverpool-United.

I hate both of those teams. I don't care about it being a well known rivalry. In terms of style to watch:

Miami
Denver
Boston
LA

But I hate Boston even more than LA so my interests are in this order.

Miami
Denver
LA
Boston

“I hate them so don’t want them in the Finals” is perfectly fine. Not wanting them because they won too many titles (a grand total of 3 in the last 17 years or 6 in the last 30) is weird.
