Can I toss in Jim Crow laws, Japanese internment camps, the Patriot Act, and police brutality and coverup into this mix?
I think @Carolina Red ready covered those, but a double mention is definitely deserved for that bullshit.

As an aside to the internment camps. One of my dads co - workers was born in one. He took us there and then told us stories his parents told him. Disgusting. We as a country try to hide, and have done a good job, this just like slavery.

Surely that one is correct, though? Kind of.

At least in modern history.

Doesn't make it bad.
Not at all. It's already been covered but it really bears repeating here because it's so completely off-base and rooted in privilege, exceptionalism and a host of other problematic embedded cognitive constructs that it's just ridiculous.
  • Jim Crow laws
  • Segregation
  • Vagrancy laws
  • Mass incarceration
  • The War on Drugs
  • Japanese Internment camps
  • Native American reservations
  • Police brutality and abuses
  • The draft for Vietnam
  • Patriot Act
And remember there was no national lockdown. So some states/cities asking non-essential personnel to work from home and encouraging businesses to insist customers wear masks indoors? Not even remotely close to anything on that list. And they were asking btw since I've seen a dozen examples in California of businesses staying open anyway and not seeing any punishment. The states didn't even enforce anything. It was simply asking greedy people to be good citizens for a change.
I'd even add Trump's downplaying the virus and insisting infected people go back to work a much greater violation of civil liberties than any "not really a lockdown, lockdown"

Stop with your fake news. The real hero is our Dear Leader who is bringing world peace by forcing Israel, Bahrain and UAE to stop their massive war and sign a peace treaty. Also, COVID is Woodward’s fault. MAGA.

I'm pretty sure I'm even further from Trump politically than you are, so I don't really feel too struck by that (even though it was in response to his response to my response). #Response.

That's a responsible response to my response to his response to your response.

Did you not hear? The numbers are the best in the world if you just ignore the places where most people live.
"Some people say we have been fantastic. I mean look at death valley. It's called death valley, fantastic place by the way, green grass and beautiful lakes, but no one has died of COVID. If I had not China banned China then millions of people who live in death valley would be dead. Joe Biden wanted to airdrop COVID into the valley. "

'Death valley is total lamestream media exaggeration. I invented that name btw, lamestream media. Could have said midstream, but I'm a nice guy. Lots of people say that. Don't hear that in the midstream media. But death valley. So no-one died there. Should call it life valley. Setting great records, too.'

Trump could go on for ages about this.

Who are you?

I wasn't even directing this at you, but apparently you are self centered enough to think the world revolves around you. From now on I shall assume that every reference to a peace treaty shall be called a Marcos. Much quicker to say.

Bahrain smhmarain. What people forget is that Trump has accumulated a massive amount of bad karma throughout his life, not just during these puny four depressing years as prez. These are achievements he needs to tick in order to maybe break even and not be reborn as a dengu mosquito:
  • Cancel global warming and climate change (not through nuclear winter)
  • Actually sorting out the Palestine/Israel issue.
  • Peace between India and Pakistan and solve the Kashmir conflict once and for all.
  • ISIL, AQ, other awful terror organisations lay down their weapons and give up killing people for no good reason for good.
  • Establish a colony on Mars.
  • One type of charger for every possible electrical device.
If he loses in November they need to be sorted before that time.

Why wouldn't it equally getting the Dems going? The Supreme Court will go either way under the next president, every one should care.

Thankfully maintaining abortion rights & Obamacare poll extremely well, that may limit the number of those on the right who would get really riled up by this.

Deaths from Swine Flu - 12,000 in 12 months.

Deaths from Covid-19 - 200,000 in 7 months.

Seriously, they cant be this dumb, can they?

More likely to force hesitant progressives to rethink. Trump's base never really undergoes substantial change. He has all the supreme court fundamentalists on his side already.

I'd wager that progressives and leftists will vote Democrat down the ballot on a last chance basis. If it's more of the same (Obama) then it's likely the Democrats lose a substantial portion of their vote for a generation. Alternatively, if Trump wins then the progressive/left-wing faction of the Democratic Party will actually benefit. It'll be hard to push another moderate Dem after Hillary and Biden fail on the coattails of Obama and the polarization relative to Trump will be enough to guarantee a substantial swing.

Looking forward to Lindsay debating Lindsay:
“I want you to use my words against me. If there’s a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination."

President Trump says Republicans have "obligation" to move forward with selection of new Supreme Court justice without delay. What a total heartless cnut.

is there a precedent were a SCOTUS was appointed in the same year of a presidential election?
The most recent is obviously in 2016, where the Reps argued that 'the people should be allowed a say in the nomination', and blocked Obama's nomination. I'm betting they'll see things differently this time.

I think is a stupid rule -not to appoint a SCOTUS during election year- but it`s still a rule, so it needs to be followed. Even though, the democrats were the first ones to declare it -against King Bush the I in 1992- and the first ones to try to ignore it en 2016.

i think is stupid because it doesn't foresee the not impossible case of more that one vacancy at the same year.
