If he had any brain he’d push for a move away from us. We aren’t going to win anything for years to come. He’s a World Cup winner and should move to a top club. We unfortunately these days we have declined beyond belief. David Moyes is to blame it was absolutely criminal that he got rid of all the backroom staff after sir Alex left. He had a winning formula and through it all away.

I think he needs to work harder. Of course he's just recovered from COVID which is tough, but still.

I'd be fine with him being dropped for DVB or Fred for an extended period.

Pogba is a waste of space, any Man Utd fan that stands by this player has no idea what a real Man Utd midfielder is about, Pogba work rate is non-existent. At least when Van Der Beek came on we had a midfield that wanted to play for the club. If Ole has any chance of saying his job he needs to move this fraud on even if it means selling him for 40-50M.

End of the day, he wants to be the big kid in the playground showing off whilst the others do all the graft. Not worth keeping at all. Has the same consistency as Nani, and at least he tried even when he was crap.

Whinge all you want about the quality of players, got no time for a guy who expects everyone else around him to do all the hard work so he can **** about on the ball.

He came back to training before Bruno and has had a full week of it. This performance is not something that is markedly different from the crap he’s been serving for a while that is getting much more frequent as time goes on. I also think he’s lost a yard of pace, not that he was ever really fast but once he got going he was quite hard to keep up with. Defensively he’s an embarrassment and I’m pretty sure I could run past him in midfield at 37. Time and again you see bang average midfielders give him the run around and Manchester United cannot afford to carry a player like that.

I always think he looks rubbish when he doesn't have a proper DM (aka Matic)... The more defensive responsibilities you give him, as slight as they may be, the worse he gets.

If Pogba had actually performed in the past 4 years, I’d agree. Instead he’s been a woeful disappointment.

Massively underwhelming and at best, a footnote in our history. Absolutely sick of people claiming he’s somehow hard done by - world class?!? just laughable. We don’t owe him anything and IMO, he doesn’t give a shit.

Talented, yes but he’ll do nothing here.

The people that keep on saying he just recovered from Covid, we have no idea if he had symptoms or not or was just asymptomatic.

But you watch him at the last WC and its probably the most mature display of matches you'll ever see from him interms of defensive contribution. He had his head screwed on. Moving the ball quickly, playing the ball first time ie less dithering and generally performing like the world class midfielder we have been longing to see consistently.

We used to give Rooney a full month after coming back from his numerous injuries before we'd stick the boot in. That was excessive. But Pogba is clearly not fit, not match-ready and it showed today - that was probably his worst ever performance in a United jersey. I'm sure he knows that.

Let's at least give him 3 matches before getting the pitchforks out.

He looks rubbish for periods in practically every game. Really don’t see why he’s rated so highly. Some people talk about him being world class - need to give their heads a wobble. I think he could be a top player and has shown it in a United shirt at times too, but ffs he’s been here 4 years now and still makes the same brainless, half-arsed mistakes.

Gary saying we will never win the league with Lindelof and Maguire at the back - I don’t think we will every win the league with Pogba. He could well be a great player elsewhere as apparently he was at Juve but he’s not a United player for me.

Half the fan base are completely perplexed by him and the other half are kids defending him because they’re in denial about the fact this is their generation’s poster boy.

We’ve gave him 4 fecking years. What does he need 3 matches for?

Come on now, let’s stop pretending. He’s got it in him to be a world beater. Reality is he’s pretty fecking shit. If he could be arsed he’d get a 6 out of 10. Scholes was 7 out of 10 on a bad day

Firstly, he was performing at an excellent level just 3 months ago, so perhaps cool it with the hyperbole.

Secondly, he's literally had covid - which few of anyone knows a lot about - which will have prevented him training or even running. He was bound to be a bit off. Let's let him have 2 weeks in training can we?

Finally, where he was played against a team like Palace is an issue. He's at his best when he can either move into space himself or spray passes into space. When there are 20 players all in the same part of the pitch, any creative midfielder is going to struggle. Didn't he also have more shots than anyone else while he was on the pitch?

Been one of Pogba biggest supporter over the years, his ability to create magic is unrivalled but weirdly am beginning to understand Souness frustration about Pogba,he is great at the spectacular but struggles with the basic, there was a moment in the game Pogba misplaced a pass,Bruno who was ahead of Pogba but tracked the runner back into our half and made the recovering tackle while Pogba strolled back,it sums him up perfectly... He isn't tidy enough with his passes and isn't discipline enough to work hard,a forward could get away with that but not a midfielder, the reason we never find a perfect Pogba partner is beginning to look like its because Pogba is impossible to partner successfully,if we had started with Fred VDB and Bruno our midfield would have had more dynamism and rhythm on and off the ball,Sourness seem to be right when he said Pogba would only be great if he was used as an impact sub.He looks atm like a luxury we can't keep going on with, am not sure if my reaction is knee-jerk or I've come into a huge realisation

Firstly he hasn’t consistently performed excellently at any point. So indeed, let’s cool it with the hyperbole. You can count his excellent performances on one hand whereas as it total shit shows like today make up a long list.

His COVID is irrelevant when he’s put in this same performance for 4 years.

And back to more excuses about how it’s never his fault.

He's had 4 years. That today happens far too often. He's not the player his fanboy think he is.

In fact he might find himself out the team if VDB settles quickly. That goal today will have done him no harm.

Pogba should have been sold last summer when he wanted out. He's a fraud with a gobshite as an agent. We won't miss him if he leaves anyway. We achieve feck all with him anyway so what's there to miss?

He's got bags of ability but lacks just about everything else required. Mostly guts and desire.

Had enough of him now.

It's easier to put on mature performance in a stretch of just seven games. Harder to do it over the course of a full 50-60 matches season.

While I also think he was definitely 100% not ready to start today and we should have played started VDB instead, these complaints will always be present when talking about Pogba, as he doesn't really help himself that much to avoid them.

His last full season (18/19) he had our highest whoscored rating of any outfield player, got 13 goals and 9 assists and was - at least to my memory - easily our best midfielder in a pretty mediocre team.
So if you'd like to say today was the same performance as that season, I'd like to say you've no idea what you're talking about, and recency bias has clearly clouded any sense of objectivity you have.

He has not been a team player at United. I hate to say that this is one time I agree with Souness. He should be sold and we should have got a team player. Yes he could be brilliant if he wants to be but he does not not play like that in most games. He is a liability in most games.

What I have noticed as well recently is he has decided to be a two footed footballer and use his left a lot more and it is to the teams detriment as his passing and shooting is woeful with it.
As other posters have stated I think this type of performance is consistent with the majority of the ones he has put in for Manchester United and I cannot see it changing now.

His shooting is fecking woeful and always has been for us. I thought we were promised regular worldies? If he hits the target it's tame as feck. If he hits it hard it's a foot wide.

Not backing him up here but the 4231 makes him even worse than he needs to be.

Why ole why. It benefits not a single footballer except you. Pogba is deeper. Rashford is deeper etc.

This, it is fair to blame him, covid, the shortened break, Ole, whatever you want but regardless he was not ready today. VdB or Fred should have started and Pogba came on later when chasing a goal.

He needs world class players beside him to be good. He never pulls the team and makes others good. It was easy for him in Juve, he could roam around and do what he's good at.

Give him responsibility and he falls under. He should either be played higher up, and rotate with Bruno or sold and get a real CM.

He shouldn't have played that match at all I didn't expect it, I thought we would see him on Tuesday . You can't compare his situation to Brunos. Bruno played a match for Portugal before meeting up with his family for a few days, Pogba had to play catch up on fitness and last played a match 30 days ago. Not that it matters much as he has pulled this type of performance many times over the past 4 years.

Started the fame with three fouls in the first minute and a half followed by a lesson in how not to pass in midfield, thereafter. Very odd peformance.

The people that keep on saying he just recovered from Covid, we have no idea if he had symptoms or not or was just asymptomatic.

He trained with the team for the past week. A lot of people didn't see him starting this match because of that. The last time he played a match was Sevilla a month ago. Then you have Vdb on the bench for reasons only known to Ole.

Definitely declined since he's been here.

Oddly, I don't think Bruno has scored a worldie for us either(from outside the box) yet and he's got a better shot in him than Pogba.

Maybe we are cursed

don’t worry guys! It’s just the United scouting jinx. We are either about to make him the highest paid player in England or lose him on a free. Yay! That’s United these days. He’s had covid so genuinely give him a massive break for today but please Don’t pay this man 500k a week for 4/5 years.
Just don’t. He’s nowhere near worth it and
im a big fan. he’s probably our most talented player but at the same time: consider letting it go. when you’re battling for 4th year after year nobody should be getting that much money

Such a poor performance.

I've always felt we should keep Pogba but I'm beginning to wonder whether selling him may be the right decision. We seem cash strapped these days and with Bruno, we need more reliant passers/playmakers in midfield.

What a terrible performance by him. His low levels are really low compared to other talented footballers. VDB had also not played club football since March but still the difference between the two was day and night.

Anyway what's done is done, I hope he atleast got some match fitness out of this game..

Having seen some of the outrageous comments I had to go watch this game since I missed it and I can say it now while this was not his best game this is easily the worst angle I have seen anyone take to criticize him. Paul has always been two footed from his reserve days to his first game as a professional with us so to use this stick to try to beat him with is plain dumb and indicates you must not know anything about the player you came in here to criticize.

He even made an incisive pass to Shaw with the left foot so imagine still getting criticized for using it, post like that belong in the water off bondi beach.

I agree it is bizarre how he always tries to sidefoot the ball and no longer uses power.

He never pulls the team and makes others good.
Myths like this need to just recede, no player does that.

It would seem so based on how Paul shoots in recent times but when he first came and at Juventus the only players with a truer shot than him were Balotelli and Zlatan. Not sure why he has changed his technique.

Does not take long for unsteady posts like this. What does having Fernandes have to do with Paul? If today is anything to go by the time Paul leaves Fernandes will already be warming the bench.

Shocking performance.

Sometimes things don't go your way as a footballer, go back to basics, get 3-5 passes under your belt and regroup. There was one point where he misplaced a simple pass, and threw his hands up in the air as if to say 'It's not happening for me today' rather than fight for the ball back. He hasn't got the best mentality when things aren't going his way.

Thought since the introduction of Fernandes he hasn't been as influential. He hasn't needed to be when we were performing well after lockdown but seems content to just keep the ball moving with the odd hollywood ball. Doesn't get as high up the pitch trying to dribble and fashion chances.

If he has always been two footed then can you tell me how many goals he has scored with his left foot apart from the WC goal as that is how I judge a two footed attacking player.
Your comment about it not being his best game I agree with as I think it is his average game in a Utd shirt but his passing was piss poor and belongs with the sewage outfall well off Bondi Beach.

He play that way for United now. No good "highlights" to make it better as with France.

The only crucial difference is the two different team, France have clear rigid system and United don't. France in that competition also had top form Mbappe stretching the wings and defense. Their LW also drop to be the 3rd midfielder supporting Kante and Pogba defensively when they're defending... we maintain only two with our CAM sometimes joining in to help, but never consistently. Counter attacking strategy also suits Pogba in that set-up.

So about the latest game, I think he did fine.

Normal Pogba performance which is not bad, not really good either, just right "okay". Things didn't click for him this time but he is doing all the right thing when attacking. Defending is as expected, nothing new. I don't know but I just don't have any high expectations from him anymore.

He is as he is and as long as his role is dual CDM, don't expect much.

I still don’t understand why everyone is camping in this thread considering half of the team had worse performances

Because Pogba is supposed to be the star player in this team so of course expectations are higher on him than say James who was bought as a squad option. Even ignoring all the drama around Pogba, he has never shown the consistency of a supposed world class CM. Sure, there are patches here and there when hes unreal and shows the level of talent he possesses, but when hes not on form his performances swing from mediocre to absolute liability.

If another club came with a decent bid for him i would have shipped him off ASAP. Much rather have a CM who is consistently solid and can deliver 7-8/10 performances on a weekly basis rather than one who constantly fluctuates between 10/10 and 1/10
