Scored in his 23rd season in a row tonight. 4 different decades. What a player he's been.

Seems to have became more humble as well. He said "if I was 21 I'd have scored 4 tonight, but as I'm 38 I only scored 2."
 
Fecking hell, 23rd season in a row? He played professional football in the late 90s?

One of my all time favorite players and will always be. Can't even believe how can anyone not like him. Amazing character and incredible player.
 
What a brilliant maverick this guy is. He always felt to me like a player from a different era. There's something romantic and nostalgic about his game - like you're watching highlights from the 90s great forwards. Just combined with crazy athleticism.

One of the players I'd have loved to see play under SAF.

Two goals and could have scored a few more if he had had some more luck with him. Seems to play with lots of energy.

Would almost be shocked if he didn't end up topping the Seria A goal list by the end of the season now that he s there from the start. I know folks keep mentioning Ronnie being a crazy physical specimen but Zlatan is not far behind.

In what world? He's been an ineffective player in transition which lead to him dishing up loads of no shows in big games. Has no business being mentioned in that class.

I don't think he is Di Stefano class. I see him on the same class as Cantona (without United background). Great player that is successful, but the complexity in mentality is also a hinderance for him to reach the very top. Would not fit in dream team, all star team due it. And It's hard to reach the top in dream team era.

A lot of people dislike Zlatan because they find him arrogant. I don’t find him arrogant at all. He is self aware and his arrogance is just a part of his persona and brand.

He is also a lot more entertaining than all the PR robots we have nowadays in football who refuse to say anything remotely controversial.
 
39 year old and still banging in goals in a top 5 league om a regular basis. Fantastic player. Will always be one of the best for me, due to all the great goals he have made, lots of amazing goals.

He’s a one off, truly phenomenal talent.

Zlatan‘s bicycle kick v England is still the best goal I’ve ever seen.

Not sure if RVP and Ibra together would be ideal.

Ibra would have lasted much longer though and we still win that 1 Prem title with Ibra instead of RVP.

If he can stay injury free he will probably be in the top-5 at least.

You can see he has changed his game. He takes less runs and doesn’t engage as often. But his one touch and creative flicks are absolute world class. He is also difficult to handle as he can shoot better than most even with his left foot, and he has become a monster in the air.
 
Love Zlatan. We've missed his arrogance and self belief.
 
If he had of applied himself early on in his career and not been such a dick his numbers would be even more astronomical! Still love him, but you cant watch his documentary and not know hes a bit of a cnut. :lol:
 
A bit of a bully isn't he? I don't mean out-muscling defenders but the clips of him kicking or slapping teammates for no reason other than his own amusment, knowing they won't do anything back because he's 5 or 6 inches taller and 3 or 4 stone heavier.

Totally agree, and with regards to him undeniably being a bit of cnut ...does anyone honestly think he gives a shit? :lol:

What a player he’s been. Truly remarkable. He’s one of those that I wouldn’t put it past him to see him still around in the game at age 40 and still chipping in with some goals.

He might just crack top 50-60 all-time though depending on what metrics and intangibles you value most.

It’s hard to compare footballers from different times. They were super dominant in relation to the competition at the time, more dominant than Zlatan is now, but of course Zlatan would eat them alive if he was time zoomed in to the 50s. So would many footballers of today as the game has changed dramatically.

What I think is special for Zlatan and how he will be remembered is as the entertainer.He has scored so many amazing, beautiful and impossible goals. When I watch him play I feel anything can, and probably will, happen. This is not the feeling I get with United forwards at the moment.

Apparantly he doesnt have a very good memory though... He was hardly a prolific goalscorer in his early years... Even in the Eredivisie, see below the statistics from his spell at Ajax

Zlatan is so much more then a great football player. Entertainer. Mythical. Arrogant. Charming. Well spoken. Provocative. Angry. Nice. Powerful. Political. Business man. Self made. You name it.

To truly understand his power you have to stand next to him. He’s like a big and dangerous Lion, it’s when you first is inside his reach you fully understand why people fear his presence. Try to cross his road and you will soon see his power.

In the last months some of his ex team mates and football journalists has start to accuse him of bullying his team mates and people he don’t like. Those who try to be political correct or those who have social liberal values likes when Zlatan gets criticized because he represent everything they don’t have the talent to be.

These cowards often hides behind anonymizes quotes or confusing story’s. The bottom line of their agenda is that Zlatan is something bad. I call it some thing else.

I know what passive aggressive racism is when I see it.

Okay, one morning later, I'll concede that Di Stefano is a touch too far. Too much of a legend.

These comparisons are a little hard. I had Maldini in there originally and all of him, Eusebio and Di Stefano are renowned for their stints at one club.

It's a little hard to define Zlatan by comparison given his journeyman status. Perhaps more fitting would be Pirlo/M. Laundrup/Rivaldo.

Yeah I can agree with him being in the same tier as the likes of Laudrup & Rivaldo. Although, I would still have Rivaldo ahead of him on peak alone.

I was looking at the most appearances in football history the other day and Peter Shilton made his debut in 1966 and retired in 1997. It kind of melted my brain to think about that.

Great achievement by Zlatan.
 
Players like Zlatan (who do the outrageous) are invaluable to the game of football. Players that you just love watching no matter what team they are playing for, if only for the crazy skills they pull off now and then. Those kind of players are a massive part of what makes football the greatest sport. I feel that whenever someone calls Zlatan "overrated", they are kind of missing the point.
