Under a tree.
Much better option than Ighalo who we are playing around 130k p/w, if he accepts the same wages not sure why people are so against it if he being signed as a back up to Martial.
Hes a free agent, so might be able to agree to a pay as you play deal

A great striker who has always scored a lot of goals. Past his best of course but could play a similar role for us as Giroud for Chelsea

What makes him too much of a mercenary?
Because right now, he is just looking for a big payday...It was Atleti ..then Benfica ..then.... then...."who can pay me the most?!"
He would have probably signed for Newcastle, had that deal gone through! Like any mercenary would.

I will be surprised if he signs on with anything less than 2 year deal and 200k/week as a free agent.

Edit
It is not much money given no transfer fee or loan fee, and only 2 year commitment. It is nothing for Man United.

I swear I saw this last year and the year before.
He's like what? 45 now. The guy is ancient. I'd be surprised if he could run an entire length of football field without his legs falling off.

So, he is essentially a professional player that has the ability to pick his next employer because he is a free agent?

33 which is younger than Zlatan when he scored 27 goals for us and he doesn't have an extensive injury history

Cavani does not get into your team IMO. Striker is one area Utd do not need anyone
If Rashford Martial and Greenwood all stay fit, you're correct. Our quality in depth at front 3 is bare. I can see us signing Cavani if we're not getting Sancho but not both.

or Others will be more focused on finding a team that could help them win a trophy they have not won (e.g. UCL), at that point of their career, having already made exorbitant amount of Qatar Money
If you want those kind of players around your team, all power to you! I certainly don't!

I'd guess we'd be more likely to stick a few mil in up front as a signing fee and give him lower wages just so that we don't get players and fans whingeing about his wages every 4 fecking seconds. If we really are interested. Jovic would be an interesting signing on loan though, younger with a point to prove. Not sure he's as good as Cavani of course.

Cavani isn't going to be signed by a CL contender, he just left PSG because of a lack of playing time. I don't want him because he has declined and struggled with injuries but that doesn't make him a mercenary.

Only 7 starts in Ligue 1 last season. Just a few seasons too late, unfortunately.

I could be wrong, but i think he was asking 11 millions free of taxes to Benfica. Great player though.

I feel that the reaction of us signing Ighalo on a loan deal will be much more positive when compared to the potential reaction of us signing Cavani (if it were to happen). Quite baffling really.

If Martial and/or Rashford get injured then we are unbelievably light in attack. He would be a great option to rotate in and out of the team. I would be on board with this, especially since the Sancho saga looks very unlikely to end happily

Yes please! Been a fan for a while, even when he had that hilarious run where he couldn’t hit a barn door.

Edit: Perhaps Telles crossing to Cavani is going to be our plan B, which isn’t bad as plan Bs go..

Much rather take a punt on him than Cavani. I thought those days were over for us. A washed up striker with chronic knee problems on huge wages. What could go wrong?

But then Jovic needs to play not sit on somebody else's bench surely? So I'm not sure I believe any of it.
I think the issue is also lack of trust from Zidane, there have been reports that he doesn't like Zidane and neither does Zidane like him. Maybe if he can get a more supporting manager in Ole, who will give him minutes this season with the congested fixtures, that would get him confidence.

United would be his biggest option as well, no other big clubs have been rumored to be in for him.

it is not always about the talent, it is the fit as well! I would not want Messi on this team either.
And how is he a bad fit? He works insanely hard, his movement is probably the best of any striker in the world, his link up play is good. How does he not fit in?

IF we bring in Tellas, who has great early crossing abilities, we would have a new offensive weapon in Cavani with him in the box. Otherwise, with Shaw and AWB, I thing Cavani will not be as effective without anyone putting in crosses, with our current "tactics" where we go with many short passes through the middle Martial/Greenwood/Rashford are all more suitable for our FWD position and we should still, even though time is ticking and it's almost impossible, go all in for someone like Sancho. Our wingers (Rashford and Greenwood atm) are more LFs and RFs then LWs and RWs, and so is Sancho. OGS said 2-3 days ago that Greenwood needs to work to score more goals with his head, but tbh we don't have any offensive player that is scoring or even searching for the position in the box to score with his head. Cavani would change that, and he is a free agent but Benfica said he wanted somewhere around 1.8m/week (that's why they didn't offer him a contract) so maybe 1+1 year contract and try to get down the wage and he could be worth a chance. He would definitely bring in something new to our offense.

Jovic on the other hand is big NO, the guy has totally lost all interest in football since he meet his new girlfriend (a Serbien model, that is also pregnant with his second child (from his ex girlfriend who he left (cheated) for the new one)).
He is traveling to Belgrad (Serbia) every day off to spend time with his friends and loves to party (even got arrested during the corona restrictions). He is unfortunately a typical Balkan (as am I) young guy that came from very poor family and now has more money then he can spend and is already satisfied with his life. My personal prediction is that he will fade out and probably retire early, OR realize that money don't last forever with his lifestyle in 3-4 years, go back to a middle club in Germany and have decent carrier. But he is not the man to lead or even take our offense one step forward with his current mindset.

Would take Cavani or Jovic. Both talented players. Cavani on a free for a year and/or a loan for jovic.

So where would he play? Another back up alongside Ighalo or replacing one of Martial/Rashford?

Good choice, it will give Martial some serious competition.
Yes he kinda misses those sitters, but he consistently scores goals and can be an option for continuous crosses into the box.

Yeah but we got Ibrahimovic off the back of a 50 goals in 51 games season. Still, I'd probably take him since we're kind of desperate.

Would only want on a 1 year deal with the club having the option to extend for a further year. Unfortunately, I'd say he'll demand minimum 2 years, possibly 3. I don't want to see another Sanchez scenario.
I've always been a fan of his playing style, an unbelievable engine on him in his prime but I haven't seen much of him lately. At the 2018 world cup, I thought he was sensational, reminded me on prime Rooney, playing like he had a 3rd lung, absolutely everywhere on the pitch.

Alexis worked extremely hard as well; but then that Man Utd money and the rest is history..
Same for Cavani, he wa supposed to sign for Benfica...we know what happened there. It is just about money right now for him.
As I stated earlier, he would have probably signed for Newcastle, had that deal gone through. He can go get his last retirement package somewhere else.
