With his injury record it can only be a loan deal with the option to buy. Also, hasn't taken long for the club to revert back to previous transfer dealings when they signed expensive players that didn't want to leave the selling club.

You don’t get to send an injured player back. You pay his wages injured or mot

dembele hasn’t played 45 games in a year in nearly 4 years. In the last 21 months he’s has played 30 games
Cool, if that continues then the obligation will never be triggered. No skin off our backs.

Dembele on loan is fine if we are selling James for 20m odd to Leeds.

We should be still looking to buy Sancho.

I don't think its real, but I would definitely be happy with it. Needs to get past the injury problems, but hes a terrific talent, explosive winger who will score and create. More explosive but also more frustrating than Sancho, but he's also a top young attacker. Two footed and can rotate on either side so its what we need in terms of attacking depth.

Would be happy with Perisic on loan as well, but since Sancho isn't happening, Dembele would probably be the next best option in terms of pure footballing ability and play style. How he'll mesh with the squad... not sure. I don't trust Barca, how they deal with players, how they handle them, all the reports that come out. That club is the biggest circus and mess in the world, and constantly try to vilify everyone and anyone who doesn't work out for whatever reason. Dembele definitely needs to get some of his focus and motivation back, and maybe a change of scenery would do that. Loan with option to buy is ideal, though who knows where Dembele actually wants to be.

Wont be able to play more than 10+ games during his tenure here. Awful signing even on loan.

If we end up signing Dembele, even on loan, I'm done.
Why? If he's on loan it's a placeholder move until we go in for Sancho next year.

If he works out then we have a truly world class player and talent at a beyond cheap price and more importantly it would be at a sum that wouldn't preclude a move for Sancho next year.

It really is a win-win situation.

We all love United
I’m just glad it isn’t Douglas Costa if there’s any consolation. I still believe it’s a ploy towards BVB and Sancho has to throw his toys out of the pram if he desperately wants the move, not just ‘conveniently missing a match’

Same with Jovic I don’t mind if they’ve struggled at another big club because things can change quickly if we’re the right club for them, but it’s his injury record that puts me off. Still if it’s a loan I suppose we can ship him back if he can’t stay fit...but we need a reliable back-up option.

Barca in a hurry to conclude a transfer because it'll free up funds to sign Depay who will be cheaper and the #9 that Koeman wants.

Awful signing. It will be a travesty if this is true.

Sod it I am probably going to look a complete clown but will say if he comes in he is going to prove everyone wrong and get over the injury issues

Francesc Aguilar also states that Dembele is deciding with his Mother and two intermediaries and has doubts about staying at Barca.

Loan with option to buy won't be a bad deal. But God knows what is happening with this one. So many conflicting reports

This could only happen to us...

The player has recently said he doesn’t want to come here. He also rejected us going to Dortmund. He’s very injury prone. If he’s forced to come here just to slash their wage bill then we’ve already got off to a bad start with a supposedly moody player but we are still aggressively trying to persuade him this late in the window? Just typical Ed stuff isn’t it?

I like his style but it’s just not the right signing for us right now. Maybe if we are getting Sancho and moving the likes of James on then I’d get him in. I like that he can play on either side and he’s a match winner when he’s fit but I wouldn’t like to be relying on him. Nobody gets stuck paying 300k and more a week to a players who don’t even want to be here quite like us! I hope we don’t make the same mistake again hiring players who only come here because they have no other choice and we were basically the only other ones that window who could afford their wages.

You have mixed up obligation and option. An obligation is exactly that, we would have to buy him no matter what happened.
Not if the obligation is only triggered if he plays 45 times. If he doesn't play 45 times he goes back.
