I think that this could be very beneficial for the development of our other strikers and younger players....Cavani is a workhorse.....he is big and strong, physical and is great in the air - he’s not the most clinical but he has a presence......what he does need though is service from the wings to really utilise his aerial strength.......as yet that has not been dealt with

if you look at him at the same cost as Igahlo then he certainly is an upgrade.....

doesn't sound like good scouting/recruitment though does it......wtf are we doing a deal like this at the end of the window....ffs

He'll be on insane wages and in 6 months time we'll think "why the feck did we do this!".

Honestly, just sign a young striker instead and take a gamble.
This is what gets me. Why aren't we looking for the next big thing, rather than players that have had their best at other clubs.

Injury prone and almost 34, but will be a physical presence in the Premier League? You are having a laugh.

If he's on 200k a week, thats about 20m over the 2 year contract. Not cheap by any means but also not the end of the world like some on here are describing it.

Feck me, I’m underwhelmed.

He’s one of these supposed ‘world class’ players who I’ve never seen have a good game

For his wages and agent fee you could probably take a chance on 3/4 young players from abroad. They'd all be far more determined to succeed as well. He's not winning us the league or pushing us to the next level. Depth maybe yes.

Please stop with the Zlatan comparisons, Ibra is a different breed to 99.99% of football players. Cavani was always in his shadow at PSG.

Miles better than Ighalo.

Id be looking to end Ighalos loan if we can after we sign him.
Cavani become free agent on July 1st, one month after we extended Ighalo loan for 8 more months paying 4 million€ to Shangai on top of his wages. So much for our planning.

It's not like Martial, Rashford and Greenwood are old... why can't they be that next big thing?

Cavani will be a back up option most likely and he's a far better player than Ighalo's whose level was barely Watford.

Meh 200K is not that bad. I was expecting exorbitant wages.
Underwhelming? Sure but, not a disaster.

A has-been with injury issues on obscene wages? Weve replaced Sanchez then, and he's 4 months from 34, brilliant.

We have been potentially waiting until he was more ready to provide reasonable contract demands? Many players will be keen to get contracts sorted now before teams make final signings and squads settle. So it could be 100k less a week now than it was in July.

If we bring in Telles and a RW before Monday, this is a great move and makes our bench look a whole lot better.

Anyone wondering if a 33 year old Cavani is really better than a 31 year old Ighalo, needs to have a rethink about football. Not to mention the European pedigree he brings with him.

If it’s instead of a RW, it’s unacceptable but as competition at CF in a tough market, it’s a very smart signing.
I really don’t think we’ll be signing anyone else. Telles is dead in the water, as is Sancho, as is Dembele.

I fully agree. This player with 2 others wouldn’t be a bad signing. However pairing him only with VdB and it’s not great. He doesn’t strike me as a ibra type either. Hope I’m wrong and he brings that extra something but I fear this will be another signing we will be calling deadwood in a year

Our wage bill with squad players is outrageous

That makes no sense at all.

It is a clear panic buy. You don’t sign someone who has been on a free all summer on the last day.
Same is with Cavani. 3 days before deadline. He must sign for someone isn't he? So in June with 5 clubs after him he can demand 300k. Now he must lower demands. Makes perfect sense to me to wait deadline with free players. With players who have club it is of course different situation. Depends what club wants deal more.

id say you were delighted when we signed Sanchez because this is going to end in the exact same way.

horrible signing that reeks of panic.
Everyone was delighted we signed Sanchez, his transfer thread was 300 pages of Snachez-based masturbation.

Yep. Free transfer. One year deal with an option for another on 200k per week is exactly the same as 30m (paid with Mkhi), 5 year deal and 500k a week. EXACTLY the same.

And if not being negative about everything and trying to actually look forward to the season makes me a ‘top ted’ then fair enough

I'm a big fan of his talents just worried about his readiness. He's not had a pre-season has he? probably means it'll take a good few weeks before he's match ready right?

At 200k I don’t think it’s bad. That’s similar to Rashford/martial etc and they are still very young. You’d expect a senior international at the top level to be on more than you. Also he’s not the upset type, he’s a hard worker and grounded, not a prima donna like some are making out. If he’s happy to be a rotation player, we could do a lot worse. Even on his worst day he is significantly better than Ighalo

I have just worked out how to put someone on ignore, I suggest you do it. It's fecking ace
I really am so sick of Ed and glazers shenanigans.

huge contract
no upside
no resale
potential dressing room unrest
goes against our supposed new direction
past it but marketable player. What are our scouts actually paid for?
his agent was also quoted a month ago as saying he’d only be coming here for the money.
will be deadwood by the end of the season

it’s just Ighalo/Sanchez 2.0
